In an effort to attack the left where the right is weak, this same attack keeps surfacing: “economic leftism is immoral.” Of course that is impossible. Supporting the poor is a biblical command as well as one found in all other major religions as well as being what decent people do.

But this is one idea the selfish folks of the right wing despise as supporting the weak and lazy. They try to uphold selfishness as a virtue and supporting the poor as immoral. Being taxed is stealing. They try to compare a treat like candy to basic food and shelter. And this is just the beginning of the segment.

Are there any reporters at Fox? I don’t watch it much, but flipped past a few times during the storm. The news channels had many reporters out in the storm. Fox had Shep Smith at a weather map. I did see one of their reporters outside a mansion or resort bemoaning the damage to this beautiful building at one point. It left me wondering if they have many reporters at Fox.

The truth is, when disaster strikes, a governor is thankful to have a compassionate ‘big government’ president to turn to. We know what kind of response the Bush admin had to disaster: they tried to look the other way as long as they could. If this storm happened during a Romney presidency, there would be no FEMA. And the Repubs would say ‘You states take care of your own.’ and they would congratulate themselves for promoting responsibility.

In the 2008 economic disaster my company’s sales plummeted to 25%. We barely hung in there. If GM had been allowed to fail, as one of their suppliers, we would not be here today. Yet the Republican owners of the company will not vote for the president who helped save their company. They will vote for the guy who would have callously let them fail. “News” outlets like Fox will continue to misinform people to their own detriment. I think one of the worst things Fox News has accomplished has been teaching their followers how to skirt reality-based thinking by making really bad arguments featuring faulty logic and strong emotional appeal. The Foxies would drag us all over a cliff of ideological lies. But I do think their stupidity will eventually come through to the general public.

According to Bill the poster person for government spending is someone who doesn’t work for the government, doesn’t attend a government school, doesn’t collect government benefits, who only wants the government to regulate her health insurance. That’s really a stretch and a half. I’m sure it doesn’t matter one bit to Bill’s audience if he makes any sense at all, but you’d think he’d take some pride in his arguments.
