I don’t think Erickson would have this same reaction if the cookie thrower was a grown man. Ya know. Then he might actually stop and wonder what the woman might have said or done just prior to the cookie throwing. I’m guessing she was not saying nice things.

It’s one thing to overreact in the heat of the moment, quite another to applaud such abusive, outrageous and excessive behavior. Ericsson must be even more disturbed than this crazy woman. I hope one day they both get some serious long-term anger management counseling.

Re: the informative comment posted on FoxNation is very helpful—thanks Margarita. The Texas School Board and Todd Starnes, unfortunately are dumber than a fifth grader. This isn’t so much about outrageous cirriculum, but any cirriculum that teaches children to think and make their own judgements rather than being fed the opinions of the Texas School Board and that’s anti-education and anti-American.

This reminds me of a book I read recently—The Psychopath Test. It explains, in an interesting way, why it is impossible to predict what someone will do simply from a diagnosis of a particular mental illness. I really think the right wingers are on thin ice with this topic. They are dangerously close to naming the problem from which their angriest compatriots suffer.

It sounds like Media Matters plans to treat Fox like Fox treats its political adversaries, by investigating employees, promoting an agenda, and demanding accountability. This is what political organizations do of course. This is the exact behavior Fox engages in. Fox gets very testy when others stop pretending that they are a fair and balanced news channel. I would not want to see Fox destroyed, but instead I look forward to the day that anyone quoting Fox as a news source will simply be laughed at.

As visitor 55 pointed out, the real problem for the right wing is not that there might be another war, that’s just gravy. The problem is that they would have to justify this war to a drafted army of young men and women. Something (that Vietnam taught) doesn’t work very well for long, drawn out wars with no clear objective. Drafted soldiers tend to revolt and eventually stop fighting the kind of corporate-driven wars the right wing loves. Tony Perkins’ scenario of men refusing to serve in the army because one more barrier has been breached by women, is almost as fantastical a tale as any found in the Bible. Tony should write these stories down in a more fictional format and maybe make a lot of money in the sci-fi genre.

How much coverage did the Larry Craig story get on Fox? I don’t recall, but if history is an indicator, the Craig story was not mentioned (unless Craig was misidentified as a Dem in the chyron). This may be why Hannity doesn’t know that Craig admitted his guilt. Only a “conservative” could admit guilt, then deny it when it became public, and then fail to resign when it became a huge embarrasment to him and his family.

If racists, like O’Reilly, could see themselves for the real racists that they are, we would have a lot less of a racism problem. Alas, most racists have no clue about this issue and many more which are related to their inability to see themselves objectively.

If the Republican party wants to win in the future it will start listening to reasonable people like Powell and stop tuning in to people like O’Reilly who has nothing to gain by changing his message of division, and that’s why he didn’t air the most important parts of Powell’s interview.

I agree about the Fairness Doctrine, of course. But TV News today is an entertainment industry at best and a propaganda industry at worst. And neither one is good for the consumer. I do think when the backlash to this mess comes home to roost the people (of the younger generation) will demand something akin to the fairness doctrine. Let’s hope.

For people who love the Constitution, you would think that trying to shield yourself from valid criticism by falsely screaming “First Amendment Attack!” would be kind of sinful. Do you love the Constitution Hannity, or do you just misuse it for self-promotion?

The Pres made excellent points in his speech. It is hard to avoid the fact that continuing to promote the meme that Obama is not a legitimate president is about the most divisive thing you can do to a country. But if you avoid that issue and just scream a lot a few people may not notice that you are dead wrong, Hannity.

If Obama wanted to destroy Fox he wouldn’t have to silence them. He could simply reinstitute the fairness doctrine forcing fox to allow equal air time for opposing opinions, and no butting in or talking over the lone opposition voice. Fox, having to play fair, would cease to exist as the complete propaganda machine it is today.
