This morning, Fox & Friends hosted author Zac Unger, who moved to the Canadian Arctic to research the supposedly dwindling, on-its-way-to-extinction polar bears, only to find out their numbers are increasing. But while Unger made it clear that the reason for the increase is a ban on hunting and that the bears still face problems from global warming, Fox News did its best to turn the segment into an “inconvenient truth for environmentalists.”
It was pretty evident from the start that the purpose in hosting Unger was to take a swipe at climate change believers – a regular Fox target. As Unger began to speak about his experiences, recorded in a new book, “AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH” blared on the lower third of the screen. But that was followed by another banner: THE COLD, HARD FACTS: 1973 HUNTING BAN MADE POLAR BEAR POP SURGE.
Unger said:
There are more polar bears alive now than there were 40 years ago. And that’s because there was a global hunting ban in the early 70’s and polar bear populations exploded after that. And that’s not to say that global warming isn’t real or that polar bears aren’t gonna have some trouble with that going forward. But what’s interesting to me is that this is essentially a heartening, cheerful piece of information that somehow hasn’t managed to pierce the public consciousness.
Unger explained that this particular group of polar bears has to be seen in a “worldwide” context. He added, “Some populations are doing well and some are doing poorly. And every kind of polar bear in different places are gonna have to adapt their lifestyle to the realities of global warming. But at the moment, there are many populations that are stable.”
I guess the plain fact that the numbers had increased was good enough proof for the Foxies that environmentalists are dishonest and global warming is a myth.
FoxNews.com described the video by saying: “Polar bear population on the rise? Author finds inconvenient truth for environmentalists.”
Much as I would like his face when the high tide starts to cover his lot twice a day, I’d rather the powers that be start to take the scientists seriously on the issue of climate change. The only specialists in the field who deny it are drawing their salaries from people with a vested interest in not knowing.
Once saw a delightful and totally terrifying segment on “The Twilight Zone” where some aliens sent down a representative of theirs to get earthlings out of a real bind because of their stupidity. If anybody knows how to get in touch with those aliens, could they send them a tweet (whatever that is, BTW) to invite them back for a bit?
Shame on Fux Noise once again for deliberately distorting the truth and outright lies.
