I know when the idea of Fox News first became a reality the idea was to promote right wing ideas and perspectives and presumably get Republicans elected.

But what is the purpose of all of the propaganda on Fox today? Most of the economic and national security ideas that Republican’s have held dear for decades are being trashed by Trump. I mean it is likely Trump will pull the US out of NATO if he gets reelected! Where are the principled ideas? All they have left are the social issues. And the social issues were simply a way to get the rubes to vote Republican, most of the social ideas were, at best, second tier in importance.

The Republican party is simply a shell of its former self, and the pursuit of power for its own sake has supplanted all other considerations. They simply have lost their souls to Trumpism, and apparently their minds as well.

But does Fox News really HAVE to air the hearings? I suppose if they want to keep up the sham that they are an actual news organization, then sure, but is that the only reason? I’m reminded of the claim Glenn Beck used to make so often: “Do you think they would let me say this on the air if it wasn’t true?” And, of course the answer was: YES they would!

I just find myself lately questioning EVERYTHING any Fox broadcaster or Republican says anymore. The lies are streaming from their lips at a Trumpian rate. And its incredibly bad for our country, all of this lying. If some day we discovered that Fox NEWS was actually created and bankrolled by the Russians in a bid to destroy democracy, I would not be surprised.

I guess we should be happy that the White House is such a chaotic mess that it took them 6 weeks to send Kellyanne out to promote her alternative facts.

I hope Republicans in the Senate who vote against conviction will have to answer whether they would like to see this behavior repeated by the President with other countries (and also by future presidents). Would it rise to the level of impeachable offense if Trump tries to invite 3 foreign countries into our election, or 4 or 5?
This behavior is continuing and repetitive, first Russia, then Ukraine, maybe he’ll ask North Korea for help winning the election next.

Playing the victim is a standard Fox meme which works on their base. But I doubt it would be a plus with independents.
And nice try coloring the booing as “Trump is an outsider in Washington.” If the reality TV star was an outsider in the beginning, he has more than made up for that by being the swampiest, most corrupt President ever.

I keep thinking of all the things the most rabid right wingers accused Obama of during his presidency: those very vague accusations such as “he’s destroying this country…the world is laughing at us…Obama is the most divisive president ever…Obama is not a Christian…is a liar…is a marxist…hates the constitution…hates this country…”

It’s as if the right, with their angst-filled cries, were actually creating a wish-list for the most devilish president they could think of and all that negative energy coalesced into the presidency of Trump—with all of the personal attributes that they claimed to hate. Only now they love it, and just want more.

Levin is giving us his opinion of the world as he would like it to be. Of course it bears no relation to the world as it is and his statements are merely meant as a security blanket for right-wingers to clutch to their chests as the Trump Impeachment Show plows up more and more dirt and exposes the extent of rank corruption embodied by this criminal-minded administration.

It reminds me of Karl Rove’s fantasy predictions of Republican victory on Fox News in 2012— just before the re-election of Pres. Obama, except that Levin won’t lose his job, because no one cares about this guy.

Since Trump’s election there have been no more cries from the right about how broke our country is and how our national debt (which is soaring) will cripple our children’s futures because**abracadabra** debt doesn’t matter when the money is going to the rich and people who have 50 million aren’t rich anyway!

Back when the government collected a lot of tax money from the rich, the country could afford things like NASA, and Infrastructure spending and generally taking care of citizens. Now we can put all that aside to make sure the next startup gets funded because, who wants to build a company the old-fashioned way?

Restaurants have notoriously high failure rates, so that statistic is meaningless, as Brian pointed out. If all working Americans earned a living wage that took them off of food stamps and other assistance, then Fox would lose one of their favorite boogeymen, government assistance for the poor.

We’ve tried to fix our economy by lowering taxes on the rich about a zillion times, why not try a living wage for all—just once? The Oligarchs are afraid of the potential success of this idea.

The republican party under Trump is now so bereft of any principles and policies that all they have is racism/isolationism, Christian nationalism and promotion of the oligarchy to define them.

That Seth Rich story was created by the Russians and Hannity was more than happy to help them out by promoting it. Hannity is yet another Russian asset among so many in this Trump era. He is completely willing to throw the "greatest country’ under the bus in order to serve Russia’s greatest possible asset, Donald J. Trump.

Ah I remember the good old days when Obama was only going to come and take our guns away! Now the Dem’s want our land too, and apparently what happened to rich people in China proves it! Everyone who believes they are are one lottery ticket away from becoming a rich landowner should shudder in fear. ;-)

Has Hannity been to Russia? It could be his pee tape. It makes as much sense as whatever nonsense he is dredging up from the past.

While a homeless problem is not a thing to ignore, it hardly predicts collapse of civilization. Dirty streets may be a hazard to physical health, but the lies and distortions Carlson engages in every night seem much more dangerous to civilization and the human psyche.

If Carlson stopped engaging in these tabloid hysterics, his audience would dry up very quickly. The man has nothing to offer but a plate of cold street-poo for his dim-witted audience each night. Let’s call it what it is: brain pollution.

I think Fox should hire itself a psychiatric “interpreter” or moderator so they will have someone who can speak in a way that Democrats can relate to and have an actual conversation. I’m serious.

They could coach their management and talking heads in how to stop making things worse everytime they open their mouths. They just don’t seem to understand how to speak with people with different perspectives without being bullying, demeaning or insulting. Of course, all this assumes that they actually do want to host a Dem debate more than they want to use the disagreement as another weapon in their culture war.

I do agree with Tom Perez’ decision. There is much more to lose than gain in having a Fox hosted Dem debate. Fox simply can’t have its cake and eat it. They can’t both be the mouthpiece of the president and an unbiased news organization. Fox needs to be put on notice that its symbiotic relationship with Trump is not acceptable.

I work at a sales company. We have a pay structure in which you get either a regular salary with a very small amount of bonus commission, or a straight commission with an opportunity for greater income, but also greater fluctuations in income. By far the regular salary is the most popular. It’s just a matter of necessity.

However, if my sales people had a base income, they would almost all go for the higher paying straight commission. Because…duh. It’s the best of both worlds. I think the rich object to this because suddenly all people would be truly free to engage in capitalism in a way that they really can’t right now. And there would be a lot more competition in the marketplace. The rich don’t like competition.

Ah, the new anti-constitutionalists. 8 years ago they loved the constitution. Now they only love Trump, and the constitution can go eff itself.

It’s true that there is no price to pay at this moment for engaging in this kind of talk. But sociopaths who encourage civil war while hating the constitution are putting an awful lot of faith in the first amendment to protect them, down the road. After the next election.

I’m with Ellen on this. While it would be entirely enjoyable to call out Carlson on his past bad behavior and hypocrisy. Bregman would have advanced his ideas more if the Fox News audience had actually been able to hear those ideas by having this segment air.
