Joseph West commented on Peter Johnson Jr. Whines About Hollywood Academy 'Picking On' Christian Film 2014-02-05 01:35:44 -0500 · Flag
It should be noted that despite Johnson’s comment that “the singer is a quadriplegic,” the singer’s role in the song has NO bearing on a song’s eligibility unless the singer is one of the song’s writers.

Given the blatant violation of Academy rules, it wouldn’t have matter if the singer was Amy Grant or Michael W Smith or Hillsong or any other big name in the Christian/gospel music genre.

What was really atrocious (and apparently ignored by FoxNoise) is that three songs from the African-American film “Black Nativity” (a film which ALSO has a reasonably inspirational—ie, “Christian”—them) lost their chances for a nomination because of Broughton’s chicanery (all three songs were performed by Jennifer Hudson, either in full or as a collaboration).

I also don’t believe that Jesus would approve of “bending the rules,” especially for what amounts to personal gain. (On the other hand, the song really had no chance of winning. The winner will either be “Let It Go,” rewarding the Disney studios again, or “Ordinary Love,” rewarding U2.)

Visitor, it would’ve been especially hard for O’Reilly to be as hard on Dubya as he’s been on Obama simply because from 1/20/2001 to the middle of 2006, O’Reilly spent that time kissing Dubya’s ass and referring to everyone who didn’t agree with Dubya as a terrorist, a terrorist sympathizer or “merely” an enemy of America.

In fact, as I recall, it wasn’t until public opinion started turning against the war (and Dubya’s favorability ratings started tanking) than O’Reilly finally started becoming “hard” on Dubya—although it was the same kind of “hard” you expect of apologists (that “okay—he screwed up but he had the best intentions blahblahblah” kind of crap).

You know, it’s kind of funny the double standards for education when it comes to FoxNoise. A PUBLIC school that appears to “infringe” on a “Christian” educator’s violating the Constitution, and not only is the educator held up as a model educator but the students who “rally” behind the educator are also praised for “standing up for their beliefs.” BUT when a PRIVATE school actually infringes on one of ITS educators off-premises activities and penalizes (including firing) the educator, then not only is the school vindicated by FoxNoise (if it bothers to report the story) but the students who rally behind the educator are disregarded as “mere students” who don’t have the necessary intelligence to question the school’s actions.

Mitch has a funny definition of “a handful of tweets.” What the troll fails to understand is that that “handful” is a mere sample. See Mitch, it’s like when you hear or read about polls. Did you have any problem when FoxNoise was using samples of fewer than 1000 people (from a voting age population of at least 200 million) to trumpet how Mitt Romney would triumph in 2012? That’s what the “handful of tweets” is here.

And, congratulations back to you. Your analogy proves just how incredibly stupid you are. Maybe you should go back to FoxNation where you can commiserate with others of your “intelligence.”

Barbara, Jabba—as he first appeared in “Return of the Jedi”—was a puppet. There was a deleted scene from the original “Star Wars” where Jabba was played by a real actor, the late Declan Mulholland, and while the scene was incorporated into the 1997 “Special Edition” release of “Star Wars,” Lucas altered it by adding a CGI Jabba. All other on-screen appearances of Jabba have been CGI.

Sure, Alyssa. When these “pro-life” folks spend ONE-HUNDREDTH as much time caring about the children AFTER they’ve exited the birth canal, THEN I’ll believe they’re really “pro-life.” Hell, you show me that they’re actually concerned about making sure those “children” receive the proper health care while they’re in utero. The problem is you can’t; there’s no compassion from these people for the mothers who can’t take time off from work to see their ob/gyns (and, for the record, many women don’t HAVE their own ob/gyns; they rely on women’s clinics and other low-to-no-cost options) or whose employers decide that when the women can’t do the job they were hired for (such as standing on their feet and working a cash register for five to six hours at a time), they become expendable—and the woman can’t really spend the money to file a discrimination lawsuit or even report the termination.

Until then, they’re not as interested in “life” as much as they are in controlling women’s bodies.

I tried clicking the headline and got the page saying “Couldn’t be found.”

I even tried clicking the “comments” and got the page saying “Couldn’t be found.”

You may have lucked out and clicked just after the problem was fixed.

Joseph West commented on Martha MacCallum Gushes Over Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers Who Says GOP Offers "Choice" To Women! 2014-01-29 16:13:30 -0500 · Flag
I think it’s kind of interesting that Ms McMorris Rodgers brings up her “giving birth 3 times while serving” considering the fact that those are also her ONLY births. She conveniently waited until entering the US House of Representatives to have her first child at which time she was about 38. I say “conveniently” because, not only was she guaranteed as a member of Congress to NOT lose her job because of her maternity, she also had that birth (and the subsequent ones) paid for BY THE TAXPAYERS. (And since her second and third rounds of childbirth came at later ages—41 and 43—those pregnancies also have higher risks associated with them, and, again, they were paid for by the taxpayers and all her health care, during those pregnancies, was paid for by the taxpayers.) And, even if you want to praise her motherhood, let’s not forget that her job also came with NO RISK of job loss from “maternity care” or even a need to request FMLA time off.

It does appear that she didn’t get married until she was in her mid 30s and, according to Wiki, her first-born child also happens to suffer from Down’s Syndrome. But do you think that she (or her party) would be quite as supportive of OTHER women who choose to wait until their mid 30s to get married or provide them the same kind of health care she gets as a Congressperson?

Another note of interest: The woman’s been living off the government’s teat since 1994—a decade as a member of the Washington House of Representatives and a decade as a member of the US House)—and even before getting into the Washington House, she served as a legislative assistant to the State legislator whom she replaced and she got that job basically right out of college, so the woman’s had almost NO real-world experience. (Funny. She’s EXACTLY the kind of person that the far right always claims is “the enemy” during elections and yet, seems to be EXACTLY the kind of person who keeps getting elected by right-wingers.)

Joseph West commented on Megyn Kelly Hosts State Of The Union Reaction From Meat Loaf 2014-01-29 14:32:54 -0500 · Flag
Well, it should be noted that Meat Loaf had a #1 hit as recently as 1993—“I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” which has been used in the last couple of years as theme music in a commercial for M&Ms (the one where an M&M is playing a piano and a lot of women are trying various ways to eat him).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFC7BSHnwtk

Still, your main point isn’t really diminished.

(I have to admit. The description of Meat Loaf putting his head on a desk and starting to snore is a perfect set up for any number of parodies. For instance, you have a “music journalist” asking, “Mr Loaf. What do you think of your music career?” At this point, the clip of Meat putting his head on the desk begins playing. Or “What do you think of your performance in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’?” At which point, the “head-on-desk” clip plays. Or “What was your reaction when you found out who shot JR?” At which point, the “head-on-desk” clip plays. Or “What’s your reaction when you watch FoxNoise?” At which point, the “head-on-desk” clip plays. The possibilities are without end.)

ABBOTT: Well, it’s going to be up to the voters to decide what issues are relevant, and which issues are not, which candidate can best represent them and their values in their future. And I think both my story, my history and what I stand for and what I have done for Texans will help answer that question.

Well, if Mr Abbott can use the word “stand” without being asked “Is that really an appropriate word/phrase for you to use, given your condition,” then it seems a bit silly for anyone else to think that Wendy’s using the word or her supporters using the word is somehow a slam at Abbott.

The only thing this proves is that, once again, being a GOPer means it’s all about party and self above all else. You would think that Mr Abbott would show some sort of empathy or understanding about others but he doesn’t. If it doesn’t affect him or his party directly, he doesn’t care about it. I’m pretty certain he’d be the first to file a lawsuit if a “public” facility (even if it were a privately-owned business) didn’t have handicap access if he needed to use it, but if a group of similarly disabled people were to bring a suit against a facility that Abbott didn’t use, he’d be right there supporting the facility’s owner.

Joseph West commented on O’Reilly Turns To Megyn Kelly To Validate His ‘School Teacher Porn’ Position 2014-01-24 15:50:32 -0500 · Flag
Unless the teacher was watching kiddie porn or the “barely legal” stuff, why does Kelly think that his watching the stuff at school (around “the kids”) is really any different than watching it at home? And with smartphones, the guy could be watching porn at school without using the school’s computers.

I’m not condoning the guy’s actions but really, this is a freakin’ tempest in a teapot. I mean, if they really want to investigate something criminal, why not do a study of why a good Young Republican man, like Ted Bundy, would become a serial killer? Or why a conservative pundit would choose to sexually harass his female producer and then NOT reveal the details of the settlement that kept his ass from a full-fledged jury trial? (I’m sure that no one needs any hints as to whom I’m referring there.)

“[Hume] cited the number of abortions that have taken place since Roe.”

Well, Circumcision, how many abortions happened before Roe? Oh. That’s right. There aren’t any accurate records since, before Roe, abortion was illegal.

Of course, Circumcision, maybe after you grow a vagina, a uterus, a pair of Fallopian tubes and a pair of ovaries, your opinion will count.

Apropos of nothing, did you know that the Jewish ritual of circumcising 8-day old infants, which most of us call a “bris” (because that’s how it’s pronounced in Yiddish and by Ashkenazi Jews) is actually transliterated as “brit”?

Joseph West commented on Kirsten Powers Smacks Down O’Reilly’s Attack On Pornography-Viewing Teacher 2014-01-23 15:17:36 -0500 · Flag
I thought public schools usually had filters that blocked porn and “offensive” websites. The filters that I have heard about don’t have any exemptions for teachers or administrators because MOST of the filtering sites are run by third parties. I really can’t imagine any instance by which a teacher would need to be able to have unlimited/unfiltered access on a school computer (unless the teacher is in charge of the school’s computer network—though school networks are usually handled by the school district’s administration

Now, a teacher’s personal home computer—provided it’s not connected to the school’s network—is different. But if the teacher is trying to prevent his/her own children from accessing “offensive” sites becomes the “Administrator” and can set a personal ID and password allowing him/her to access any site (of course, he/she needs to log out completely; otherwise, anyone else in the house can then access all those “nasty” sites).
