Joseph West commented on Bill Hemmer: Is This The Affordable Care Act Or Is This Gumby?

Okay, I don’t get it. What’s up with the Gumby reference? What does Hemmer even mean? Is he referring to the claymation character created in the 1950s? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumby ) Or is he referring to the Monty Python characters? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumbys ) Either way, what’s the connection with the ACA? The claymation character was (as far as I recall) a genuinely nice character (the Eddie Murphy “SNL” skit was a parody that showed the character as being completely different “when the cameras quit filming”; if Hemmer’s referencing this, he’s really deluded). As for the Monty Python characters, they were dimwits (who’d actually fit in quite well with the FoxNoise kkkrew—except the Gumbys are probably a bit more intelligent) but, again, I’m missing any connection with the ACA.
If Hemmer thought he was being clever (something that doesn’t work for him, incidentally), he’s sadly deluded. Then again, that pretty much describes everyone working for FoxNoise.

It’s just too bad that FoxNoise didn’t complain as loudly about John Roberts’ work defending a killer on Florida’s death row when Dumbya put forth his nomination as Chief Justice.
What? You didn’t know that? Sure enough. Roberts did work on behalf of a death row inmate in Florida (I believe it was the late 1990s) but that wasn’t enough to keep him from serving on the US Supreme Court.
I guess that was okay since Roberts was (A) nominated by Dumbya and (B) a white conservative.

Just a point, Sandman, most insurers do allow you to keep your preferred doctor, even if he or she is “out of network.” You just have to be willing to pay more out of pocket for that privilege.
Also, it’s interesting that Hannutty and the rest of the right-wing bloviators aren’t pinning a large portion of the blame on the doctors. There’s nothing that says a physician CAN’T accept all insurance programs; most limit the programs they participate in due to the paperwork involved because they feel it’s too “time-consuming.” Of course, there’s also a bit of greed at play. A doctor who doesn’t accept any insurance can charge rates equivalent to those of insurance-accepting doctors and get more money from the deal. (Even if he charges rates that are equivalent to the amounts that the insurers will pay for tests and procedures, he doesn’t have to wait for the money. He can demand payment at the time of the service and if you can’t pay, you don’t get service.)

You just know that IF Obama were to “get tough” with Putin and did something like bomb the hell out of the Kremlin and St Petersburg and Archangelsk and Vladivostok if Putin didn’t immediately pull Russian forces out of Crimea and away from its border with Ukraine, the righties at FoxNoise would be blasting Obama for “not pursuing diplomacy” as well as “leading the US into a war it can’t afford.”
And to the Franco-German troll, you’re not fooling anyone. You know if you really were of enough foreign mixture to retain such a foreign-sounding name, your teabagging buddies would be attacking you.

The gang said CNN anchor Carol Costello is a pinhead because of her admiration for the “sexy” Jesus character in the movie “Son of God.” In speculating on the handsomeness of the Jesus actor, Bernard McGuirk opined that Jesus “wasn’t a short, buck-toothed shrimp or people wouldn’t have followed him around.”
Interesting. I don’t really get why Costello should be deemed a “pinhead” because she thinks the current movie Jesus is “sexy.” (Didn’t Jim Caviezel—who played the J-man in Mel Gibson’s little Christian torture porn film a decade ago—get more than just a little appreciation for his attractiveness?) Is she being deemed a “pinhead” because she’s “surprised” that a Jesus could be “sexy?” And McGuirk might want to take a look at a number of other men* who had others following him around before suggesting that Jesus couldn’t have been “a short buck-toothed shrimp.” Look at Gandhi. Not exactly the most attractive or tallest of men but he had lots of people following him around. And Napoleon? Pretty much the epitome of a “shrimp” who had people willingly follow him (and not just because he was their general and emperor). And the Civil Rights leaders? None of them were exactly “leading-man” types (okay, Malcolm X—maybe). And, not wanting to go all Godwin’s law, but Hitler? Has McGuirk seen pictures of Hitler? And what about Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh? Does McGuirk think either of those men could be remotely considered “sexy?” (Okay—O’Reilly might get the “women over 75 with cataracts” demographic and Limbaugh might win the “Dominican boys under 21” demographic but I doubt their looks have anything to do with their appeal, such as it is.)
*I’m sure there are a lot of women who wouldn’t be considered “sexy” but managed to have a lot of followers but since McGuirk decided to pull the gender card here, I’m sticking just with decidedly UNsexy men.

Tom, in addition to what mj pointed out, the only way that “lighten up” would be considered racist is if you’re applying the phrase to an African-American. Kurtz is quite Caucasian. He can’t get much lighter than he already is (unless he were to have some sort of Joker-style chemical accident or suddenly developed a bad case of albinism).
Incidentally, schmo, even the word “lighten” has had a long history of meaning “to take things less seriously.” Maybe you’ve heard the term “light-hearted?” Guess where it comes from.

Jarrett should’ve fired back with “Well, Bill, YOU should start off every show with something like, Guys, keep it zipped up. Don’t think you’ve got a right to have sex just because you’ve got a penis*. If you think that thing requires sex, introduce it to your right hand and go for it—just keep it away from the girls. Because if you get a girl pregnant, it’s YOUR responsibility as well. Girls don’t get pregnant by themselves.” She should’ve also reminded Bill that he’s not exactly got a great track record when it comes to relationships with women so he might not exactly be the best person to be telling the First Lady what she should be doing in regards to teenage girls. And, probably bring up something about how the GOP likes to talk a lot about “personal responsibility” even as so many of the members seem to eschew it whenever they become embroiled in a bit of personal controversy.

As I think I’ve posted before, “forms” are necessary for virtually ANY action taken by people wishing to claim “exemptions” anywhere.
Maybe Megyn doesn’t do her own taxes, but you’d think she at least takes a LOOK at the forms. (Oops. “Forms.”) For starters there, of course, the paper you fill out is a “form.” Now, the gov’t doesn’t really care if you fill out a form UNLESS you owe taxes (if you’re due a refund, then you’re not really obliged to fill out a tax return unless you want that money). To prepare that return, you also need a “form”—a W2, to be specific—which your employer sends you, summarizing the amounts of money you were paid and how much money your employer withheld for various things (Fed/state taxes, health insurance premiums, etc). Then, depending on which particular “Form” 1040 is used, you may need a lot of other “forms”—there’s a form for special deductions, a forms indicating special income (such as winnings from lotteries and casinos as well as interest and dividen income), a form indicating first-time homebuyer credits, a form for child-care expenses, forms dealing with capital gains and losses, etc.
If you do large volumes of business mailings and you want to get a special rate for that, you go to the Post Office and fill out a “form” or two. For-profit companies can get special rates based solely on the number of letters or pieces you plan to mail. For non-profits or not-for-profit entities, another form needs to be used affirming the nature of the business (such as charitable work or government work).
To adopt a child, you have to fill out a “form.” To start up a business, you have to fill out a “form.” If you want the ability to leave the country for a short time and then return with minimal difficulty, you have to fill out a “form.” If you want a credit card or open a bank account, you have to fill out a “form.” To work for someone, you have to fill out a “form.” (Well, with the latter, maybe not—I’m guessing to work for FoxNoise, you just need to do “special favors” for Rupert or Roger or both.)
Oh. And one would think that ATTORNEY Kelly would be aware of the importance of filling out forms. Attorneys may have different terms for them, but the legal system can’t work without “forms” of some variety or other. All that paperwork is one “form” or another. (And even if it’s just something as simple as a “letter,” if it’s not produced in the correct “form,” then the court may not accept the piece.) Oh. She might want to remember that the “marriage licenses” she’s had are basically “forms.” And that divorce she got from hubby #1? Another “form” had to be filled out to start the proceedings and a “form” had to be signed to finish the process.
So why should the nuns be exempt from doing something that’s a standard part of virtually every part of modern American life?

Dennis, you obviously have NO understanding of the term “blood libel” or you wouldn’t have posted such an insanely stupid comment. (And just because the Quitta from Wasilla claimed it wasn’t “just” an anti-Semitic term the first time she used it does NOT change the fact that it IS.)
As for slavery, in the experience of THIS country (as well as most of the Western world for the past 3 centuries), it IS a reference to African-Americans. And virtually any usage of it in more recent times that uses it in ANY context OTHER than the 2 1/2 centuries of the African-American experience is NOT using it accurately. For example, “wage slavery”—slaves didn’t get paid anything at all. Right-wingers who compare welfare to being like slavery, again, ignore the fact that slaves didn’t get paid ANYTHING for their labor and were actually penalized if they didn’t work (IOW, their food rations were cut, they might be beaten and/or humiliated; exceptions were made for pregnant slaves but only as long as they were actually in labor—true Christian masters might allow them to rest a whole day before getting back to work but many female slaves were expected to get back to work as soon as the cord was cut).
Now, go back to whatever racist website led you here.
