Bill Hemmer: Is This The Affordable Care Act Or Is This Gumby?

Posted by Ellen -7842.60pc on March 07, 2014 · Flag

During the “objective” America’s News HQ show yesterday, co-host Bill Hemmer worked a smarmy, snarky swipe at ObamaCare into a discussion about whether or not “senior administration officials” were truthful in saying that there will be no more major changes to the Affordable Care Act in the next few years. Actually, Hemmer worked it in twice.

The “liars or not?” premise of the debate was already plenty suggestive of an anti-Democratic slant. And it’s not as though Hemmer didn’t further get the point across in his introductory “question” about the announcement. He said, in the most sneering of tones, “But should we believe that after all the changes since the health care law was rolled out?”

Still, that was not enough anti-ObamaCare scorn for Hemmer. When it was time for Democrat Rob Leser to speak on the issue, Hemmer “asked,” “Is this the Affordable Care Act or is this Gumby?” Hemmer’s voice dripped with sarcasm. Just in case you couldn’t guess what he wanted you to think.

Apparently, Hemmer liked his mocking comment so much, he repeated it after Leser finished speaking; “ACA or Gumby? …For the record, Steve.”

Yeah, for the record, Bill.

Also for the record, America’s News HQ airs at 1 PM ET during the week. That is during the time period Fox argues that it airs objective programming.

So is Fox News lying when it calls this an objective news show? Or do gratuitous swipes at the Obama administration from a host not count as opinion on Fox?

I report, you decide.

I believe Hemmer used the Gumby reference as a way of suggesting that President Obama was twisting and reshaping the Affordable Care Act like it’s a toy.

Okay, I don’t get it. What’s up with the Gumby reference? What does Hemmer even mean? Is he referring to the claymation character created in the 1950s? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumby ) Or is he referring to the Monty Python characters? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumbys ) Either way, what’s the connection with the ACA? The claymation character was (as far as I recall) a genuinely nice character (the Eddie Murphy “SNL” skit was a parody that showed the character as being completely different “when the cameras quit filming”; if Hemmer’s referencing this, he’s really deluded). As for the Monty Python characters, they were dimwits (who’d actually fit in quite well with the FoxNoise kkkrew—except the Gumbys are probably a bit more intelligent) but, again, I’m missing any connection with the ACA.

If Hemmer thought he was being clever (something that doesn’t work for him, incidentally), he’s sadly deluded. Then again, that pretty much describes everyone working for FoxNoise.
