@Georgia Sam: I sometimes think that right-wingers have their own Constitution that includes “God” at least once per paragraph and omits any positive references to government. (And their Constitution has a First Amendment that mentions the various freedoms “but only for Christians and proper-thinking Jews.” It also omits or edits most of the Amendments after number 12.)

When the GOP stops emulating the Nazis, then the comparisons will stop. (Of course, have you guys seen the cover for “National Review?” At NationalReview.com, at the “subscribe” link. I don’t recall where I first saw the cover, but the site showed the piece that the cover homages. Amazingly, it’s a SOVIET propaganda piece. I did a quick search and the National Review cover and its source can be found at Daily Kos—dailykos.com/story/2012/09/04/1127593/-The-National-Review-Cover-Looks-a-Lot-Like-Soviet-Propaganda . No wonder the right-wing likes to accuse Obama and the Dems of being both Nazis and Communists; it’s their way of deflecting from their own Nazi/Communist actions.)

Might we inquire of Huckabuck and Klein if they recall the way that Obama’s time in Rev Wright’s church was used against him? Or the way a large number of right-wingers seem to believe that Obama’s a “secret Muslim” (which, at least to me, suggests religion being used “against” Obama since the Constitution doesn’t bar Muslims from the Presidency)?
Perhaps Huckabuck and Klein are mistaking the Obama camp for the GOP faithful who, as recently as a few months ago, were still expressing PUBLIC unease with Romney’s Mormonism. (IMS, it was Romney’s Mormonism that led to Romney’s non-wins in states like Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Kansas.)

Didn’t some GOPer go to Israel and “apologize” for the way the Obama administration has treated the country? Isn’t that an apology?
And haven’t the right-wing basically been making apologies for Obama’s “shoddy” treatment of the UK?
Or do those not count because it’s not the President making the apologies in those cases?

Gee. Maybe Mr Kelley should take the advice of so many conservatives when “liberals” express displeasure with some official policy: “Love it or leave it.”
There are, after all, 49 other states in which he could live and at least a dozen immediately come to mind which share his bizarre notion of “patriotism.”
Or, he could do the TRULY patriotic thing: Fly a flag on HIS property, and do so 365 days a year (366 this year), instead of forcing HIS viewpoint on the entire community. (By the way, how much does it cost for the town of Amherst to raise all those flags? You know, the flags don’t magically appear on those poles; someone has to put them there and then take them down. Now, I’m sure that’s a part of someone’s job—or several someones’ job—but, at the same time, it takes the person or people away from their primary duty. And, then there’s the cost of the vehicles that have to transport the worker/s—having to stop and start every so often burns fuel which costs money.)

Just so’s you know, “fecundity” is NOT really something the folks at FoxNoise would want their female hosts or guests to display. “Fecundity” usually refers to fertility and, when selecting a hooker, the dirty old man FoxNoise relies on for its viewership isn’t going to be impressed with how fecund she’ll be. (One’s use of makeup doesn’t really display intellectual fecundity so we can dispense with that particular usage.)

@al in la: A couple of points to correct your Sandra Fluke comment:
1—What Ms Fluke was discussing was NOT the contraceptive function of the contraceptives, but rather the OTHER medical uses that some women need them for.
2—The only people who should be “eliminating the need to use condoms” are those who know their partners aren’t playing the field. To date, NO female contraceptive is capable of protecting against any STD aside from pregnancy. (Even the female condom isn’t 100%, plus—by all accounts—it takes far longer to “put on” than the standard male condom.)

Considering the yahoos who’ve been running as GOPers in the past few years, I’d say the last place they’re arguing from is “the head.” When you’ve got morons denying any evidence of global warming or climate change, that’s NOT “the head.” When you’ve got a GOPer claiming that women who are raped don’t get pregnant because the body shuts down, that’s NOT “the head.” (In fact, take any anti-choice argument, and you’re not arguing from “the head.”) When you’ve got people clamoring against marriage equality using the Bible as “evidence,” that’s NOT “the head.” When you’ve got GOPers claiming that Obama wanted to institute “death panels” as part of his health care program, that’s NOT “the head.”
Maybe the GOP argued from “the head” at one time, but not the current flock claiming to be GOPers. They’re arguing as much from “the heart” as Democrats ever did. The only real difference is that the GOPers are putting their “hearts” into taking away people’s social lifelines (something which “the heart” should fervently support).

Exactly, Bernadette. The whole “pro-life” movement seems incredibly devoted to the idea of getting babies made, but not so devoted to getting babies born so they can grow up to be healthy adults. (They also seem pretty supportive of cases where American military personnel lose their lives—and the more unnecessary the need, the more supportive they are. Oh, sure. They cry the crocodile tears, but that only serves their belief that more American lives must be risked so that those who’ve already died haven’t “died in vain.”)

According to BoxOfficeMojo, the figures are even less amazing. Sure, the movie did some decent business on Friday, but that’s only because it added more than 900 theaters.
Per BOM, the film has actually been in release for 43 days (as of Friday’s business), and on Friday, the film basically doubled its box office take but, again, that’s after adding 900+ theaters. Through Thursday, the film (which had been playing in only 169 theaters) had earned $2.8 million. On Friday, after expanding to 1091 theaters, it took in $2.2 million. The truly interesting thing, though, is that BOM doesn’t begin reporting the film’s take until 8/13—its 32nd day of release—when it was playing in only 61 theaters (that day, it took in a little over $50,000, putting its gross-to-date at just over $586,000).
A couple of other facts, Friday’s per-theater average was only $2067 which is the film’s 4th largest per-theater average (last weekend, when it was only playing at 169 theaters, its per-theater average was $2643 on Friday the 17th, $2621 on Saturday the 18th, and $2102 on Sunday the 19th).
It should also be noted that the film company’s last major film (“Expelled”) actually opened in nearly as many theaters as “Hatchet Job” is currently playing (“Expelled” opened in 1052 theaters back in 2008).

Actually, Patrick, Ricky’s quoting of Yeats is completely at odds with the rest of his comment. Yeats was simply describing the stages of life through his (rather radical) Catholic interpretation. Yeats was NOT a big fan of organized religion (he was, in fact, disgusted with the Church’s efforts to take over Ireland’s political system after Irish independence). But, Yeats was a very spiritual man and he viewed life through his religious lens so it’s not hard to imagine he would use God in his poem.
However, here’s the part preceding Ricky’s quote:
“He with body waged a fight,
But body won; it walks upright.
“Then he struggled with the heart;
Innocence and peace depart.
“Then he struggled with the mind;
His proud heart he left behind.”
Basically, it’s a more developed version of the old Oedipus tale where he faces the Sphinx’s question “What walks on four feet in the morning, two in the afternoon and three at night?”
Yeats’ first verse basically describes infancy and early childhood. The second describes adolescence; the third, adulthood; and the fourth (which Ricky quoted), old age.

Where were the folks at FoxNution during the GOP primary campaign when Mittens was using his millions to backbite, name-call and generally attack his GOP rivals (and they were doing the same in return)?
Mittens and his GOP rivals had no problem with being “mean-spirited” or showing “coarseness or aggressiveness,” frequently making onlookers wonder just what was going on. I wish the DNC would start running ads attacking Romney—using the words of his GOP primary opponents. (This, of course, would work best on TV. First, show a series of uncredited quotes blasting Romney and his policies, then show clips of the GOPer being quoted. Then an announcer comes on with “And now, Mitt Romney claims that the Obama campaign is being nasty. Nothing’s being said now that wasn’t said then.”)

Davis is nothing but a sorry opportunist who’s still pissed that he wasn’t able to win the Democratic nomination for Governor of Alabama. He turned his back on the overwhelmingly African-American constituents of his House district when he voted against the ACA in order as well as slamming the Alabama Democratic Conference’s leadership (the ADC is the African-American arm of the state’s Democratic Party) all in the vain attempt to lure conservative whites into voting for him. Unfortunately, he was running against a relatively conservative White Democrat who managed to win a solid majority of the Democratic primary (and, of course, the primary elections tend to attract the party’s hardcore faithful).
And Davis is sadly deluded if he thinks that he could have ever appealed to enough White GOP voters to have won their votes in the general election. Now that he’s decided to put an “R” after his name, he’s going to face trouble in future elections. All that any GOP opponent has to do is remind the voters that Davis was among the first people outside Illinois to wholeheartedly endorse Obama’s 2008 candidacy (in fact, he was one of—if not THE—first Southern Democrats to support Obama). And then, there’s Davis’s largely “liberal” voting record in the House (especially on issues that matter to the GOP). Davis’s political career is shot to hell. GOP voters do NOT reward Dems-turned-GOPers, especially in primary elections where a longtime GOPer is running for the office.
