Karl Rove “Jokes” About Murdering Todd Akin

I didn’t think it was possible but Karl Rove has put me on the side of “legitimate rape” Todd Akin. Fox News contributor (and GOP power player) Rove crossed the line when, according to Bloomberg Businessweek, he made the comment “If he [Akin]’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts.” Akin responded and he wasn’t laughing.

According to Akin’s office:

”Given the current FBI investigation of threats against Congressman Akin and calls for acts of violence and rape against his family and staff, joking as to the potential murder of Congressman Akin is deeply disturbing. I am certain he (Rove) misspoke.”

Yeah, Todd - Rove saying that he would be a suspect should you turn up dead is a simple case of “misspoke.” Do you handle all instances of this language towards you this way?

I ask this because, as AP also reports, while he has accepted a phone apology from Rove, Akin has received multiple threats - including death threats and promises to rape his wife – that were not jokes. That makes the timing of Rove’s comment just about as disturbing as the content.

Dare I ask how Fox News will cover this, should any of them bother to even bring it up?

Doors, the days of the good conservative comedian are long past. Even formerly good performers like Kelsey Grammar destroyed themselves on self-censorship.

Sorry, but you can’t make it up with Republicans- The Onion has proven that repeatedly. I remember when Romney’s campaign successfully got them to take down an article saying the Cayman Islands were gonna be renamed the Romney Isles because half his campaign donors were using them as a tax cheat.

It seems the conservatives idea of comedy always involves either killing someone or racism. It’s no wonder why they’re such a miserable bunch.

Seriously, they really need to spend some money on a decent comedy writer and wake up their snob-a-torium.

Most GOPiggies have correctly concluded that Akin can’t be elected. A few hardcore wingnuts, most notably American Taliban pastor Gomer Huckabee, are hanging on. Soon to be re-elected Senator McCaskill thanks you.

If I were Akin, I’d be very, very wary of accepting any invitations from a certain former VP (who also happens to be good friends with KKKarl)—especially invites to go duck hunting.
