Joseph West commented on Bill O'Reilly Fact Check - Civics & Ethics Education Edition

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but why would O’Reilly want to entrust public schools with educating children on “ethics?” Schools are—according to the righties—incapable of teaching responsible sex education yet they’re supposed to be capable of teaching “ethics?” Whose ethics?
The Foxies can’t seem to grok that agnostics and atheists are just as ethical as fundamentalist Christians but they want public school teachers to offer instruction in ethics? Would these teachers need a certain amount of college courses in “ethics” to teach the class? (I can’t imagine that any college offers a major—or even a minor—in “ethics” which is, typically, the requirement for any school teacher, especially in high schools, to teach a specific class.)
Wouldn’t it actually be better for parents to be teaching their children what is and what isn’t proper ethics? (As well as “situational ethics”—like, if a starving man takes a loaf of bread without paying for it to feed himself and his starving family, is that “stealing?” According to the Old Testament, it isn’t. But US law doesn’t take that into consideration when such a man is arrested; theft is theft. A judge may take the situation into account but if the owner of that loaf of bread wants to press charges, it has to go to court—and the man is in jail, unless he can get bail. And, for some reason, I’m thinking FoxNoise wouldn’t take the man’s starving into account.)

And perhaps Starnes should remember that there are NO laws against “blasphemy” in the US (unlike those “ebil Moos-lim” countries inhabited by all those “brown skins” who are nothing but ingrates who can’t understand why an American invasion of their countries is in their best interest).

Priscilla, I’m not sure if you’re trying to avoid causing offense or you’ve just heard some “scrubbed” version (or perhaps you’re referring to some other song), but the lyric “isn’t it real” is not in “Send in the Clowns.” The verse in question goes “Isn’t it rich? Isn’t it queer? Losing my timing this late in my career.” I’ve got two versions of the song in my iTunes library (Judy Collins’ magnificent rendition and a more recent version by Olivia Newton-John), both of which use the lyrics I noted. Even Dame Judi Dench, in a performance at the BBC Proms from 2010 (available on YouTube) sings the lyric as I noted.
But, O’Reilly certainly does exemplify what Sondheim meant by “clowns.” In a 2008 interview, Sondheim said he really should’ve called the song, “Send in the Fools” (he’d noted in 1990 that the use of “clowns” was a reference to the theatrical use of getting to the jokes when a show wasn’t going all that well).

I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we present the FoxNoise crew with a few bits of how “Christians” have accepted “denigrating” views of Christ?
Try the play “Corpus Christi”—where Christ and his disciples are portrayed as gay men in Texas.
Or the film, “The Last Temptation of Christ” wherein Christ—in an alternate reality married and (gasp) had sex with his wife (it just happened to be Mary Magdalene).
Or, what about Madonna’s video for “Like a Prayer?” The one which targeted racism through its use of burning crosses and Madonna praying at an icon of a Black Jesus (which comes to life).
And what about FoxNoise’s yearly whining about the “War on Christmas,” where a company can’t even ask its employees (who, incidentally, have NO “right” to work at the business) to wish customers “Happy Holidays?”
Now. Why do we not hear of a constant barrage of attacks by Muslims on depicitions of Christ or Christian churches*? (Yes, they do happen, but VERY infrequently.) Could it be because Muslims respect Jesus as a prophet? That could be it. (It was rather interesting that a Muslim leader in Lebanon condemned the US—through this inflammatory video—of trying to stir up strife because Muslims AND Christians in Lebanon.
*I’ll note that there is far more inter-Muslim sectarian strife than any conflicts with Christian communities but the Muslims are really no worse than Christians were in Europe just a few hundred years ago. (In what’s now Germany, there were literally dozens of towns and villages that were leveled because the citizens followed the “wrong” version of Christianity during the Thirty Years’ War.)

I wonder what’s the FoxNoise viewers’ opinion of GOPers advertising en español? Or, better yet, the RNCers who actually spoke AT the convention en español? I mean, it was a bit odd that the RNC would allow anyone to speak en español, considering the Republican platform advocates an “English-only” policy.
Of course, the FoxNoise viewers probably didn’t have a problem with this since they’ve grown accustomed to their politicians saying one thing and doing the opposite, all in the name of getting elected. As long as the GOPers hold fast to their “English-only” platform by bringing up stupid, waste-of-time legislation for “English-only,” they’ll let the politicians speak en español at the conventions and in the TV and radio ads all they want.

pRicky is accusing McCain of suffering dementia for his appearance on this “interview” then turns right around and offers his usual blather/porn about the Quitta from Wasilla. Now, I’d just love to know WHEN pRicky thinks McCain’s dementia began. I would say that IF McCain is suffering dementia, the first sign of it showed up about the time he announced Governor Half-Term would be his VP candidate.
(Truthfully, I don’t believe McCain is suffering any symptoms of dementia but Gov Half-Term’s little masturbating legions are.)

Hank, the folks at FoxNoise’s website wouldn’t let us post anything negative about their little pets. At least, not without showing us their “lame brains slinging juvenile insults” and displaying what it really means to have a “PhD in vulgarity.”
And I suppose I should ask you why you even bothered to venture to this site? Were you misled in your interwebs search, thinking this was a FoxNoise enabling website, only to be disappointed that the folks here are NOT the typical FoxNoise sheeple? Or were you paid to troll here? It’s gotta be one or the other and I really don’t believe you have the smarts to do an interwebs search on your own. Most of the folks at FoxNoise don’t.

Bemused, you’re a bit off on the population figures. The current estimates (based on the official US Census from 2010—which may or may not have included "expats"*) only put the population at less than 315 million (HuffPo had an article on 8/14/12 that sort of snarkily noted that the population was now314,519,265 or 100,000,000Ï—100 million times pi).
And the world’s population was estimated to have passed the 7 billion mark back in March (we can safely presume that it’s gone past 7 billion if it hadn’t actually reached it back then).
Considering how one defines “expats,” they may or may not have been included. Being an “expat” doesn’t necessarily mean one has given up his citizenship so an expat citizen would still be counted in the census. For an expat who HAS given up his citizenship, he wouldn’t be considered a citizen or a resident (resident aliens, even undocumented aliens, are included in Census figures *if they responded to the Census). Currently, there are only a little over 5 million presumed American expats who were counted in the Census.

Oh, I just wish that some of those evil Muslims would attack our Saudi embassy. It’d be very interesting to see just how FoxNoise and its website would handle THAT story (considering that a certain Saudi royal—who, by Saudi law, MUST be one of those evil Muslims—is a part owner in FoxNoise).
I’m kinda guessing that the story would be buried on FoxNoise.
(And, no. I’m not really hoping for an attack on any embassy or consulate. It’s just a way of venturing speculation.)

Snark aside, O’Reilly is a fan of the white, Christian, male power structure who long for the “halcyon” days, when women “knew their place” and “accepted that sex was a dirty thing they should go out of their way to avoid, lest the taint of it made them unmarriageable.”
*******
The irony, of course, is that the same men wouldn’t think twice about finding a hooker or take a mistress to have all that sex that the wives wouldn’t do because the husbands made them feel ashamed for enjoying sex. (And we mustn’t forget the men who would, in one breath, go persecuting the “queers” in the workplace while seeking them out for sex in parks and public bathrooms before heading home to the wife and kids.)
And these men would then teach their sons it was perfectly acceptable to seek out some “tramp” to sate his teenage lusts but to seek out a “good girl” to marry. (The daughters, of course, were warned about the nasty “perverts” who only wanted one thing from them and that, if they should let themselves be “used,” they’d better be ready to find somewhere else to live if they found themselves in the “family way.”)
(Just as a minor technicality, the power structure that O’Reilly really favors wasn’t limited to “white” or “Christian” when it came to women. That particular power structure applied to all men—except the “queers”—of all colors and faiths.)

“(So far, none of these GOP women, or the Fox hosts, have mentioned the Democratic Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay law).”
Of course not. They’d have to explain why the GOP is against women receiving equal pay for their work. (I bet none of these “women” politicians would be willing to accept less money than their male counterparts but they don’t seem to have any problem with ordinary women—of all political stripes—being paid less than men for the same job.)

@Linda: Why don’t YOU do the research?
Have you been paying attention to efforts in Virginia to have vaginal ultrasounds? Or efforts NATIONWIDE to force doctors to show women sonograms of the “baby” they want to abort? (In Texas, the courts ruled that this was NOT an undue imposition on either the woman or the doctor’s part.) How about various efforts to cut funding for Planned Parenthood clinics (which just happen to be the PRIMARY health clinics in many urban—read “poor and minority-inhabited”—areas)?
How about various state efforts to define legal minimums for places that can provide abortions? Some states have decided to require that the abortion doctor be credentialed at local hospitals (which may be difficult since some clinic operators are the modern equivalent of “circuit preachers” and may perform abortions at several different clinics in different cities) or that the clinics must have a minimum number of parking spaces or must have a minimum square footage with a full-fledged separate operating room (with its own minimum square footage—there was one clinic, I believe in Kansas, that pointed out that the area’s major hospitals didn’t even have an OR with that minimum square footage) or that the clinic’s records be subjected to more stringent security requirements than any hospital or general purpose family clinic.
Or are these not restrictions to you? Do you want the government telling you and your doctor what you can do with your body?
