Yeah, Bill. Right. Because life for a transgender inmate BEFORE the surgery is going to be some sort of walk in the park. Not to mention the fact that, in most cases, the inmate does have to SUE (ie, take the case to a court of law with a judge ruling on the case) in order to get the surgery. And the silly medical requirement that Bill just sort of ignores. Trans individuals who do seek the full surgical routine typically have to undergo at least a full year living as the gender they feel best defines them under psychiatric observation (meaning regular visits to a shrink to ensure the transitioning phase of living as the new gender is going well).

I’m pretty certain that the committing of a crime that would send someone to prison would be enough for a psychiatrist or therapist to recommend the person is probably not mentally stable enough to proceed with surgery.

(Now, committing a crime—say, bank robbery—to help your lover have a sex change might be the more likely route. Perhaps Bill needs to watch “Dog Day Afternoon.”)

Considering the fact that Palin has NO more experience with the military than Obama, I don’t see where she gets off in saying that Obama doesn’t understand the mission. He understands it well enough to know it’s NOT supposed to be used to invade countries that did nothing to us (or even our interests) like a certain previous president did.

And in 1991, after liberating Kuwait, the US insisted that Kuwait enact a wide range of women’s rights but, when the Kuwaitis never got around to it, the GOP-controlled Congress saw no reason to tie foreign aid to Kuwait with progress on human rights.

Furthermore, when have right-wingers cared anything about “basic human rights?” For crying out loud, they don’t even agree to “basic human rights” in THIS country. The GOP voted AGAINST the Lily Ledbetter Act (guaranteeing women—mostly—a right to sue over pay discrimination REGARDLESS of how long it takes to discover the inequality). The GOP have done their damnedest to gut affirmative action programs designed to level the playing field. The GOP have refused to support ENDA (which would protect LGBT workers from losing their jobs solely because they’re LGBT).

Note about my last comment: I’m, by no means, endorsing the use of slurs as team names—just pointing out the likely hypocrisy from not just FoxNoise but also Ben Shapiro who, per his Wiki entry, is an Orthodox Jew. Maybe Shapiro never encountered slurs when he was growing up but I’ll bet his parents (and certainly his grandparents) were subjected to the “k” word and the “H” word. And I do know he’s encountered the Jewish community’s distaste for the image of Shylock (from Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice”)—even as recently as 2004 when Al Pacino played Shylock in a film adaptation. And Shapiro should be well aware of the history behind “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” which led to much of the anti-Semitic attitudes of the last 150 years (not merely in terms of language but also imagery).

But, like so much of the contemporary right-wing as presented by FoxNoise, it’s “My victimization is more important than yours.”

I have sympathy for alcoholics and those around them.
