Joseph West commented on Tucker Carlson Wants An ‘Older White-Guy Appreciation Day’ 2014-11-03 01:24:03 -0500 · Flag
I would think an “Older White-Guy Appreciation Day” would focus on LIVING “older white guys,” rather than a group of DEAD white guys.

Joseph West commented on Fox’s Gutfeld Suggests Ebola Nurse Hickox Should Be Quarantined For Being ‘Obnoxious’ 2014-11-03 01:19:02 -0500 · Flag
At least Gutfeld admitted his own level of obnoxiousness would warrant a lifetime quarantine.

What Gutfeld and Rivera should really be asking is this: Why, if the nurse was supposed to be under “voluntary” quarantine, were NONE of the police monitoring her or the reporters covering her every move wearing any sort of protective gear? The woman, according to Gov LePage, was such a risk to everyone who got anywhere near her, yet none of the police assigned to watch her and none of the reporters covering her were wearing any other than regular clothing. And her boyfriend/husband (I don’t recall her marital status) who accompanied her for much of the “quarantine” period was never photographed in any kind of protective gear.

Joseph West commented on Donald Trump: There has never been a greater enemy to Israel than Barack Obama 2014-11-02 12:55:49 -0500 · Flag
Here’s a question I’d like to have asked of Chump Trump: Why should we give a rat’s a$$ about Israel? Why is Israel more important than, say, Japan, South Korea, the UK or Turkey? I’m really surprised that a “businessman” such as yourself would want to have as an ally someone who takes your money but tells you to shove off over how they spend it. I mean, if a personal friend (not that you have too many such critters, I imagine) came up to you and asked to borrow some money from you (which they would repay—not just given to him no-strings-attached), I doubt you’d just give it to him without any questions. No, you’d expect him to spend it on something YOU deemed “appropriate” rather than something “frivolous” like a vacation or a donation to a liberal political cause. But, apparently, the US should just keep giving Israel BILLIONS of US taxpayer dollars without any strings on how the Israeli government spends it because, doing otherwise would obviously mean the US government is being “hostile” to Israel. (It’s kind of interesting how so many right-wingers have expected other foreign governments—even the UN—to do the exact will and bidding of the US government in exchange for US dollars and when those other governments feel they should use that US foreign aid in ways that benefit their own people, right-wingers get all huffed up, demanding a cut to those countries’ foreign aid assistance. But, when it comes to Israel, right-wingers suddenly go all laissez-faire.)

Also, if you’re so fakkin’ concerned about Israel, why don’t you move your rat’s a$$ (and hairpiece) to Israel? Of course, don’t expect to become a citizen there very soon since you’re NOT a Jew (though, presumably, turning over a large portion of your personal income to a few highly placed individuals in the Israeli government might help you move up the list—which could raise its own troubles with that segment of the Israeli populace who believe Israel should be reserved for Jews only).

Joseph West commented on ‘Ebola Expert’ Sarah Palin Full Of Falsehoods, Conspiracy Theories And Ignorance 2014-10-28 14:10:34 -0400 · Flag
Actually, Sarah’s completely wrong on the Tenth Amendment issue here (of course, she’s completely wrong on virtually everything but that’s for another time). Since the US government created the National Institutes for Health and the Centers for Disease Control, disease control is no longer a matter for the states.

Now, yes, the states have some degree of control regarding disease outbreaks within their borders, but they HAVE to coordinate their efforts with Federal health officials before resorting to outlandish measures. That’s why Christie and NY’s Cuomo have been so harshly criticized by Federal health officials for their recent quarantine efforts—because they’ve unilaterally taken action that was NOT approved by Federal health officials (including, you know, folks with medical degrees).

Of course, I’d like to know how Palin would react if a state (or, more ominously, the Feds) went in and shut down a farm that was merely suspected of e. Coli contamination—purely in the name of “protecting” the people. (As if the right-wing, especially the Koch-bought Teabaggers, give a crap about “protecting the people” in any form or fashion.)

Joseph West commented on Van Susteren Blames Obama For Quarantined Ebola Nurse Treatment 2014-10-28 13:58:17 -0400 · Flag
Well, it’s certainly hilarious that van Susteren is whining that Obama “ignored the World Health Organization’s Ebola warning last March . . .and August.”

What do you suppose she would do if Obama heeded THIS bit also from the World Health Organization:

In the past few years, firearms-related death and injury have been called everything from a “scourge” (1) to an “epidemic” (2), a “disease” (3) and a “preventable global health problem” (4). The biological analogies are not accidental or far-fetched. Among people aged 15–44 years, interpersonal violence and suicide rank third and fourth, respectively among the world’s leading causes of ill-health and premature mortality, while war-related injuries rank sixth (5). A large proportion of these occur through the use of firearms.

From WHO’s 2002 “World Report on Violence and Health” comes the following excerpt from “Recommendation 4: Promote primary prevention responses”:

“Another issue for both national and local interventions is prevention of firearm injuries and improvement of firearm-related safety measures. Firearms are an important risk factor in many types of violence, including youth and collective violence and suicide. Interventions to reduce injuries from guns—whether accidental or intentional—include, for example, legislation on gun sales and ownership, programmes to collect and decommission illegal weapons in areas of frequent gun-related violence, programmes to demobilize militia and soldiers after conflicts, and measures to improve safe storage of weapons.” (Full paper available in PDF form at http://whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/2002/9241545615_eng.pdf?ua=1 )

And given the recent school shooting in Washington State, this WHO “recommendation” seems to have been willfully ignored by the former President Bush and his fellow GOPers ever since who’ve been held hostage by extreme right-wing teabaggers as well as the NRA. But, again, anyone think Greta’s going to demand Obama pay attention to this particular WHO warning and recommendation?

Regarding Antoinette’s comment about Kelly’s being an attorney, could you imagine going to court with Megyn Kelly representing you? If she’s so shoddy with her (what passes for) reporting, I’d hate to think my life depended on her “skills” as an attorney. (After all, while many attorneys rely on paralegals and others to gather research on a case, they’re still pretty much obliged to read the facts of the case and consolidate all that research for themselves.)

Even better, how do you suppose F&F would react to ATHEIST club flyers being distributed in public schools? Especially as F&F are apparently misleading viewers into believing it was an atheist parent who’s protesting the club.

Of course, Palin’s defenders see nothing wrong with this grifting and bamboozling and will claim it’s all a bunch of “libtard haters” doing their best to demean a “good woman.”

It’s too bad Palin decided for politics instead of being a “better Christian.” If she’d gone into the ministry, she could be raking in the big bucks from the “faithful” without having to report a penny to anyone. (At least, not until some member/s of her flock felt they’d been fleeced a little too much.)

Jedidah Bila recounted how, when she was a high school “dean,” performances ended up being censored because just one parent would complain. When asked if she could see “the other side,” Sandra Smith recounted how “they went after” Humpty Dumpty" which seems to be a story from a 2009 Daily Mail article.
-——

Well, I guess then the ditzes at “Outnumbered” should be ready to condemn the NC high school involved in this case:
http://www.advocate.com/arts-entertainment/theater/2014/10/17/north-carolina-high-school-cancels-play-due-gay-scene

From that article: A North Carolina high school has canceled its production of Almost, Maine, one of the most regularly produced plays in American high schools. Students claim that parents and local churches had complained to the school that the play featured a same-sex couple among its many characters, WSOC reports.

(and……) In a scene titled “They Fell,” which includes neither physical contact nor graphic language, two weak-kneed male buddies repeatedly fall to the ground as they fall in love with each other.

“Our faculty and staff are still in review of potential performances to be conducted by our students this fall,” wrote Rob Bliss, the school’s principal, in a statement. “At this time, no final decision has been made regarding whether and what drama performances are to be presented this fall. In regards to the request for students to perform the play Almost, Maine, careful review and consideration was given to the contents of this play. The play contained sexually-explicit overtones and multiple sexual innuendos that are not aligned with our mission and educational objectives. As principal of Maiden High School, I have an obligation to ensure that all material, including drama performances is appropriate and educationally sound for students of all ages.”

I’m sure the “good ladies” at “Outnumbered” will want to condemn the school officials who censored a play over content that the students had no problem with.

Coulter giggled. “That’s not the point. …These are new voters coming in. …They are bloc voting. They are being bused into the polls. …."

As opposed to, say, the evangelical white “Christian” voters who never “bloc vote.” And I’m sure all those retirement communities (whose for-profit managers make sure that FoxNoise is the only channel available for viewing) go to the polls in their own individual fabulous cars, instead of little minivans and minibuses.

(Apologies in advance: This is a pretty long comment. I fully understand anyone who decides TLDR.)

The “tyranny of the minority,” Mike? Really?

I trust you realize that’s the very reason so many (mostly) right-wingers like to “remind” everyone that we’re a “republic” rather than a “democracy.” This theory is based on the notion that a “republic” is a “representative” democracy while a “democracy” is little more than mob rule. However, the very notion of a “republic” expects that a “minority” is actually in charge of the majority. The House of Representatives has only 435 voting members but consider how 55% of the American electorate voted for a Democratic president in 2012, and yet, 53.5% of the House members belong to the OTHER party. And it’s THOSE 233 members (out of a population of more than 310 million Americans) who are refusing to act on matters the People want.

Now, in American politics, the Court system (aka “the Judiciary”) was set up to act as final arbiter on matters of the law, especially as the Constitution is affected. See, all too often, “the majority” makes the wrong decision, especially where the rights of “the minority” are affected. THAT is what’s known as the “tyranny of the majority” and it’s far too common, Mike. Just imagine—for half a second—how truly horrific your life could be if this country were REALLY as “biased” against Christians the way you and your other brain-dead schmucks like to think it is. Being denied a job. Being denied a place to live. Being denied the chance to spend your life with the person of your choice (and, incidentally, Mike, until you start raging and ranting against the ease by which hetero couples -even “good” Christians-in this country can divorce or otherwise end their “holy matrimonies,” you really have no leg on which to stand against same-sex marriages; that’s known as hypocrisy, and your blessed Savior is on the record as strongly disapproving of hypocrisy). And ALL because you’re a “Christian.” Let’s presume the Constitution is interpreted to mean that “freedom of religion” doesn’t really mean what we’ve been led to believe it’s meant for the past two centuries and change—that freedom of religion is meant to protect only Deists (you know—like the Founding Fathers’ primary system of belief) and that Christians who believe in a personal God and then that God went and got a young woman pregnant so she could give birth to “the Messiah” are sh#t out of luck when it comes to being protected. Let’s see how well you’d like a life in THAT existence. All your “morality” wouldn’t mean anything because everyone would be “moral” or “immoral” with NO religious implications. Killing would be wrong merely because taking a life can (almost) never be justified (and, strictly speaking, it really can’t but even great “moral” Christians have managed to contort themselves into justifying the killing of others if such killing “serves a higher purpose”).

I’d LOVE for “your” GOPers to finally split off and form your own party (it’s way too late to consider the joy such a split could do with this year’s elections—unless “your” GOPers decide to stay home). It’s just too bad those annoying Teabaggers didn’t do just that in time for the 2010 elections (of course, I think they realized they didn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of winning as a third party, so they just hijacked the GOP).

Yeah. I’d like to see some sourcing on that claim. YouTube shows the (presumably) official video—as I post this—has earned a whopping 51,395 views SINCE SEPT 30TH.

Unless this is one of those “FCC moments” from the Family Guy episode, “PTV.” In the episode, Peter’s forced to go to Meg’s school play and misses the Emmys where David Hyde Pierce suffers a “trouser malfunction.” The FCC meets and notes they received something like 5 complaints by phone, and “as everyone knows” one complaint was the same as 1 billion offended people.

He cited a survey in which somebody counted up all the hours Obama has spent playing golf since he became president. “It was about 850 hours, if you base it on a five-hour round,” Morgan claimed.
-———-

By my count, since taking office on January 20, 2009, Obama’s been the President for some 50,000 hours. And we’re supposed to be upset at his playing golf for 850? That’s about 1.7% of his entire presidency.

On the other hand, how many hours of “vacation” did George W Bush take in just his first year in office?

Joseph West commented on Bolling Likens Ebola To ‘Dangerous Virus’ Liberalism 2014-10-05 12:41:34 -0400 · Flag
Perhaps Bolling should be reminded that it’s CONGRESS that “holds the pursestrings” of government. And, somewhat ironically, it’s been the Dems who’ve been looking to give our service members more pay. Though there is something else that should be noted that Bolling ignored: LIFETIME HEALTH CARE for service members. Active-duty military get FREE health care and, after they’ve retired, they continue their free health care. (I suppose the whole VA scandal has leaked from Bolling’s brain—a good part of the problem with the VA hospitals had to do with those GOP-led cuts in government spending. Billions to arms manufacturers had to be paid for by someone—which the GOP and the “liberal” media conveniently ignored when the VA scandal first broke last year.)

Now, I’m not suggesting that we shouldn’t be providing free health care for active-duty or retired military (we should be providing that for EVERYONE, but that’s another issue) but conservatives do tend to lump things like “benefits” and “perks” when salary issues arise. How much value do you think free lifetime health care would be appraised if it came to an “hourly” wage? 25 cents? 50? A dollar? 10 dollars?Even during the height of the VA scandal, one of the more serious suggestions was to give vets vouchers that could be used for private doctors in lieu of VA care; if taken to mean these vouchers would mean the vets paid the private doctors just as much as they pay their VA providers, the doctors would basically bill the government (and I’m sure the private doctors would be regularly audited to ensure they’re not overcharging the government for their services).

I think Bolling’s long overdue for a coprectomy. (Not sure if that’s a real word or not, but it’s pretty apt. The “copr-” derives from the Greek word, “kopria” meaning dung or poo. For the unknowing, it’s similar to the word “coprophagy”—a term that could describe the main “joke” in the “Two Girls and a cup” video as well as a certain type of “grin.”)

While this would have been an opportunity for Hasselbeck to say that public schools are not supposed to be glorifying Jesus, Hasselbeck responded, “Talk about stepping up the defense.”

Priscilla, you wrote that as if it was completely unexpected. Now, had the following been written, that would be a shock:

While this would have been where Hasselbeck was expected to toe the official Fox line, Hasselbeck responded, “Public schools aren’t there to glorify Jesus.”

Then again, that would cause the two brain cells that haven’t been killed off from the peroxide treatments to have shut down from an overload. (On the surface, of course, no one would notice anything wrong aside from Hasselbeck’s complete silence as the overload would shut down all voluntary actions. The usual blank look on her face would still be there—though truly discerning viewers might notice just a little more blankness in the look.)
