On Fox's 'The Five' - Kimberly Guilfoyle Isn't Giving Up Salami For Lent!

Posted by Priscilla · February 16, 2013 3:31 PM · 10 reactions

Is Fox's "The Five" really a low level "improv" show that's done for comedy? These jokers can't be serious, can they? Nobody actually would sit around making the kind of mindless commentary, made by The Five, unless they were attempting to be humorous, right? Because if Wednesday's discussion of Lent (a popular subject on a supposedly secular network) was supposed to be serious, it wasn't. And if it was supposed to be funny, put it this way, SNL has nothing to worry about. But we did learn that Kimberly Guilfoyle can't give up salami for Lent because she loves it so much. That's what she said ;)

Posted by Margarita · February 16, 2013 1:08 PM · 4 reactions

Ever-vigilant Fox culture warrior Todd Starnes has found another example of the godlessness of modern society: just before beginning a wrestling match, North Carolina high school student Nicholas Fant dropped to his knees in prayer, and the referee gave him a warning for delaying the match.

Fox News Paints Free Pre-School As A Government Hand-Out

Posted by Ellen · February 16, 2013 11:42 AM · 7 reactions

Fox News just can't seem to pass up an opportunity to paint President Obama as the Supreme Welfare Queen enabler. Or maybe it's just that they hate public education. Whatever the reason, the "we report, you decide" network presented President Obama's call for universal pre-schooling as, "free stuff to people who will vote for you in the future."

In case you've been wondering, I've long thought Fox was grooming Herman Cain in order to hire him for staff - but was just waiting for that pesky sexual harassment scandal to be old news. Well, it is and they have.

Murdoch's Sexist Coverage Of Pistorius Murder Case

Leave it to the Murdoch newspapers to throw cheesecake and sexism into their coverage of the disturbing case of the arrest of Olympian Oscar Pistorius for murder.

Cavuto Jokes About The Impact Of Raising Social Security Retirement Age

On yesterday’s Your World, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) provided his cure for Social Security. “I have been advocating for quite sometime now that we lift the cap that we currently have, Clyburn said.” But Cavuto kept interrupting to make the discussion about raising the retirement age instead.

More Irony! Bill O'Reilly Advices Kids To Do Acts of Kindness For Lent

Posted by Priscilla · February 15, 2013 2:31 PM · 6 reactions

You just can't make this stuff up. Well, you can if you're Bill O'Reilly. While O'Reilly's Barcalounger, Fox faith based audience might believe Bill's bloviation, anybody familiar with O'Reilly's toxic track record is sure to greet his "Tip of the Day" hypocrisy with howls of derisive laughter. As America's big propaganda pimping daddy, O'Reilly is now treating the folks to daily sagacity known as the "Tip of the Day." These tips frequently offer advice geared towards raising children such as teaching them to be kind because that's "good karma." He also provided America's kids advice on Christmas (not "holiday" or Hanukkah) gifts. Last night he advised children that rather than giving up something for Lent, they should do acts of kindness on each of the 40 days of Lent. The cognitive dissonance of Bill O'Reilly promoting kindness is quite extraordinary.

Armchair General Hannity Declares Victory With Hagel Filibuster

Posted by Ellen · February 15, 2013 12:34 PM · 6 reactions

“Great American” Sean Hannity couldn’t have been more delighted to see the Department of Defense go without a new Secretary as the result of his beloved Republicans blocking a vote on the confirmation of Chuck Hagel. “It’s the first time a filibuster of a cabinet nominee has been used,” he crowed. “Needless to say this marks a major win for the GOP and a pretty embarrassing defeat for the president.”

Is On the Record Going Tabloid?

Posted by Margarita · February 15, 2013 7:55 AM · 7 reactions

Just a little observation, gentle reader. It wasn't so long ago that Greta Van Susteren was interviewing Senators, governors, Presidential candidates and other heavy hitters. What has she been up to this week? For several days it was in-depth coverage of the Christopher Dorner manhunt. Last night she was interviewing passengers from the Carnival cruise and their families.

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that according to the last Nielsen numbers, the show is bleeding viewers, while The Last Word on MSNBC has been picking them up. Maybe they're trying to see if cops, blood and shipwrecks do better in the ratings game. Your humble servant will monitor this to see if it's a lasting trend.

O’Reilly To Marc LaMont Hill: You Don’t Get To Decide What To Discuss About Dorner Killings, I Do

Posted by Ellen · February 15, 2013 12:24 AM · 7 reactions

It seems our old pal (and former Fox News contributor) Marc Lamont Hill, Ph.D. made quite a stir with some comments on CNN recently about suspected ex-LAPD cop killer Christopher Dorner and, more to the point, why he has garnered support in the black community. Apparently, Hill didn’t get the memo that he was supposed to just condemn any and everyone to whom Dorner appealed and leave it at that. Because as Hill tried to argue that it’s not up to O’Reilly to decide the framework and timing of a discussion about the issues that Dorner has thrown a spotlight on, O’Reilly snapped, “No, I get to decide here, Dr. I get to decide.” Things went downhill after that.
