Just a little observation, gentle reader. It wasn't so long ago that Greta Van Susteren was interviewing Senators, governors, Presidential candidates and other heavy hitters. What has she been up to this week? For several days it was in-depth coverage of the Christopher Dorner manhunt. Last night she was interviewing passengers from the Carnival cruise and their families.
I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that according to the last Nielsen numbers, the show is bleeding viewers, while The Last Word on MSNBC has been picking them up. Maybe they're trying to see if cops, blood and shipwrecks do better in the ratings game. Your humble servant will monitor this to see if it's a lasting trend.

I know Greta has roots in tabloid journalism, but it looked to me that in the last year or so they were giving her some serious stuff – interview with Mitt Romney in Israel last summer, interviews with Republican candidates during the primaries, a lot of talking to Congressmen about Benghazi, etc. I haven’t seen any of that in the past week.

MM is right. Last night EVERYBODY was covering this story, including Hannity devoting something like 20 minutes of his show to discussions about it and phone calls with fans of his who were either on the ship or were waiting for relatives to dock. And not much was happening then either – Hannity was talking at the time the ship was being tugged in. By the time Greta got on the air the ship was at the dock and nothing was happening other than the usual procedures. (And I understand they got the passengers off a heck of a lot faster than they had said it would take.)

In all honesty I think that after two hours of O’Reilly and Hannity hammering on Obama every night, even the rightys are having a hard time enduring the third hour now!

Apparently, the mad troll doesn’t quite get the difference between a news WEBSITE and a network news show that has one host.

In fairness, Greta’s show has always done this. In past years, she’s devoted entire shows to things like the Casey Anthony trial, the Trayvon Martin shooting, and whatever other tabloid stories were then current. If there’s a “crime blotter” element, or some kind of salacious celebrity gossip element to it, she’ll usually focus on it. The thing about last night was that there wasn’t anything happening by the time she got to air her hour on it. The ship was docking and they were just waiting for the people to get off.

Maybe because it was a news story? Dorner was a major story so i dont see the problem with her covering that. And the cruise ship was a pretty interesting story too. Right now its on the very front page of nbcnews.com. I guess that makes them a tabloid too….
