Fox News just can't seem to pass up an opportunity to paint President Obama as the Supreme Welfare Queen enabler. Or maybe it's just that they hate public education. Whatever the reason, the "we report, you decide" network presented President Obama's call for universal pre-schooling as, "free stuff to people who will vote for you in the future."
As Think Progress - whose video of the discussion can be seen below - noted:
In fact, preschool substantially reduces the likelihood that a child will later drop out of high school, become a teen parent, or be arrested for a violent crime. Studies have determined universal preschool programs generate roughly $7 in savings per child and increases human capital.
But who has time to go into all those boring statistics when you can make inflammatory accusations against an African American president?
The Big Oil companies the gov’t subsidizes to the tune of BILLIONS of $$ do many great things — like political contributions to rightwing neoKKKons and advertising buys on Faux sNooze.
Those preschoolers aren’t doing a damn thing; they don’t even have jobs. They’re just living off the gov’t teat . . .
.
Seeing as HS dropouts, teen parents, and those arrested for violent crime form both a core repub/tebagger constituency and key Fox demographic, it’s little wonder Fox is against it . . .
.
Why make it a choice? With FoxNoise, can’t it be both? We know how the right-wing has been trying to get rid of public education since at least the days of St Ronnie of Raygun was in office and how the right-wing has been trying to get rid of Obama since Nov 5, 2008 (and arguments could be made that the right-wing’s been out to get rid of Obama since June 1, 2008 when the DNC gave Obama enough delegates to win the nomination or even since Feb 1, 2008 after the race for Dem nominee got winnowed down to just Hillary and Barack).
“An educated populace is difficult to control”
’Nuff said.
