Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera found yet another opportunity to gratuitously race bait this morning on Fox & Friends. Predictably, not one of the hosts – who had just been crying about media bias – objected.
The supposition was that the so-called liberal mainstream media has been covering up the Democratic affiliations of some recently indicted politicians in California and North Carolina. As Heather at Crooks and Liars pointed out, they all must have missed Rachel Maddow’s coverage. She highlighted not only the California politicians’ party affiliation but the possibility that the wrongdoing might be just the thing to revive the GOP in that state. Heather also noted, “I’m guessing that these stories probably got plenty of local coverage, as is generally the case when you’re talking about politicians on the state or local level getting in trouble.”
But why ruin a good whine with facts?
Host Steve Doocy immediately played the liberal-media victim. From his well-paid perch at GOP Central. Doocy complained, “If you were watching the other channels, you would never know that they were both Democrats. Course, if the shoe were on the other foot, you know, the first line would be, ‘He’s a Republican,’ ‘She’s a Republican.’ Boom.”
Rivera added:
There is no doubt and it is undeniable that the mainstream media is more liberal than anything else. There is an instinct among the liberal, probably mostly Democratic mainstream media, to portray Republicans as hypocrites and (Doocy piped up: evildoers!) anytime they sway from the church-going, family-loving, U.S. of A. boostering, they get skewered by the liberals in the press. Where Democrats, they tend to avoid the party label. There is no doubt about that. Nobody can realistically deny it. It is provable.
Not that Rivera did actually prove it. Maybe because he was too intent on adding his next ethnic slur to his growing portfolio:
Usually, the politicians who are robbing on the Democratic side tend to be ethnic politicians, as in these cases. You know, the Asian, the Chinatown guys taking money from the Chinatown boss in San Francisco, the black mayor of Charlotte, you know, so there’s another politically correct reason to skip over their real identification as Democrats, there’s no doubt and it is undeniable.
Of course, nobody brought up the endless demonization of Democrats on Fox News. Apparently, Rivera's remarks are just their idea of balance.
“We are the antidote to that particular (liberal media) problem,” Rivera said.
