Fox's Latest Faux Controversy: Google Honors Cesar Chavez On Easter
I had to double check to make sure it wasn't an April Fool's joke as I heard host Bill Hemmer say there's a "growing controversy" about Google "choos(ing) to celebrate" Cesar Chavez on Easter Sunday. "Did you catch it?" Hemmer asked his guest, Roll Call's David Drucker. Obviously, this is part of the War on Easter the religious police Fox News has been warning about. And leave it to Fox to suggest that President Obama has something to do with it.

As I previously posted, Fox is making a big deal out of the homily at the Easter service attended by the First Family yesterday. Fox Nation blared, "Another Obama Pastor Problem" and as I write, Megyn Kelly is on her third mention (that I've heard) of it this hour. But guess what? It turns out this same "problem" pastor, Rev. Luis Leon, was a big pal of George W. Bush. And he preaches at a church where many other presidents have attended services.

One of the ongoing themes in the right wing, and on its mouthpiece, Fox News, is that conservative women are the subject of vicious, sexist attacks by liberals. Sarah Palin was often used as an example of how those on the left, like Bill Maher, said mean and cruel things about conservative women. Greg Gutfeld was upset with NOW for not immediately jumping to Palin's defense after Maher made a sexist "joke" about her. Bill O'Reilly contended that conservative women, like Palin, were not treated with the respect they deserve. But inherent in this outrage was a double standard in that O'Reilly's pals, Glenn Beck and Dennis Miller have made offensive comments about Rep. (and first female House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi's plastic surgery. This double standard was present during last week's "Miller Time" during which the real washed up "comedian" Dennis Miller made an offensive remark about Democrat Rep. and cancer survivor, Debbie Wasserman Schultz. And Bill O'Reilly laughed...

Like clockwork, the Fox News religion police have struck a new note of outrage over President Obama's worshipping. You may recall that - in addition to being too cozy with Rev. Jeremiah Wright - some of the president's previous religious transgressions include not issuing an Easter proclamation one year, not attending church on Christmas another year, attending church services at the wrong church another Easter and now another wrong church at another Easter! Thank God Fox is on it.

For a guy Fox News keeps saying is a has-been comedian, they sure keep spending a lot of airtime talking about Jim Carrey over at “fair and balanced” central. After almost an entire week of attacking him over his Funny or Die video that mocked Charlton Heston and gun zealots, they now seem ready to spend this week attacking him over his response to Fox.
Read moreFox Regular: Public School Teachers Don’t Care About The Kids
Yesterday’s Bulls and Bears did its best to make mass school closures in Chicago look good by making protesting teachers look bad. But regular panelist Gary B. Smith went the extra public-education-hating mile by saying, “The teachers don’t care about the kids.” Fortunately, panelists Julian Epstein and Jonah Max Ferris pushed back on that. But not host Brenda Buttner.

Eric Deggans, of the Tampa Bay Times, appeared on C-Span2's Book TV to discuss his new book that looks at how the media deliberately divides and panders to prejudices for the sake of ratings. Fox News gets special attention with anecdotes about segments News Hounds readers will recognize: Bill O'Reilly's visit to Sylvia's restaurant in Harlem, the New Black Panthers on Election Day and more. Plus, Deggans talks about being targeted and attacked as a "race baiter" by O'Reilly and then meeting him.

Newly-minted Fox News contributor Erick Erickson probably did little to help widen the Republican tent this week when he let forth a batch of homophobic tweets on the day the U.S. Supreme Court held oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act. (h/t Media Matters)

Recently, the Washington Post’s Chris Cilizza ranked Florida’s Republican Rick Scott as the most vulnerable incumbent governor of the upcoming 2012/2013 election cycle. But you’d never know that from watching him on Your World two days ago where Neil Cavuto presented him as a job-making machine. It started with a Fox News Alert announcing that President Obama would be going to Florida to talk jobs. Next, we saw a graphic saying the jobless rate in Florida had fallen from 10.9% to 7.8% since Scott became Governor. Cavuto said, “Job creation has indeed been happening in his state.”

With Dr. Ben Carson in hot water over his comments suggesting homosexuality is a perversion, Fox Nation has joined up with Breitbart.com - those same people just caught in another lie this week - in order to defend their GOP savior. And, not surprisingly, they played the race card while they were at it.
