Joseph West commented on Donald Trump Thinks His Nativism Would Probably Have Prevented 9/11

A couple of points:
1—tRump’s wrong about 9/11 being “probably the greatest catastrophe” in this country. Wikipedia lists 3 that probably had more lives lost. Unfortunately, as all 3 occurred in the first part of the 20th century, when record-keeping was far less well-maintained, the disasters don’t have accurate counts. But, the 1900 Galveston hurricane is believed to have had a death toll of at least 6,000 (with upper estimates running double that figure). In the dubious second place is the Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906, believed to have killed between 3000 and 6000 people (official reports at the time listed less than 400 dead, but, then as now, some dead were more important than others; it’s unknown how many people died in the Chinatown area, especially as the quake struck just after 5 in the morning, local time). In third place, though perhaps just barely, is the 1928 “Okeechobee” Hurricane which is believed responsible for more than 4000 dead—at least 2500 died in Florida and another 500 died in Puerto Rico.
2—This is more of an indictment of the morons in the GOP, including their propaganda network (aka FoxNoise). It’s incredible that they refuse to hold Dubya and Cheney accountable for the massive loss of life on 9/11, given all the advance warning from the American Intelligence community (to say nothing of the PDB that Dubya received in mid-August suggesting a likely terrorist attack IN THE US sometime in September) and yet, they have no problem holding Hillary Clinton personally responsible—to the tune of 3 YEARS of fruitless hearings—for the four dead in Benghazi.
3—Someone really needs to remind tRump that hindsight is always 20/20 and that most of the things he thinks would’ve prevented 9/11 would NOT have done so—for some of the reasons Ellen listed but also because America had lulled itself into a false sense of security in thinking that the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans were enough to keep bad things from happening here (okay—the Pacific is pretty large enough to deter some major activities; you’re not likely to see too many hijacked planes make it from Indonesia or the Philippines all the way to California without being stopped).

I can half believe his answer to Kelly’s question about “any employee at Koch can earn more than his boss.”
I “half believe” it because he didn’t actually answer—just a vague “try to reward according to the value they create.” But, I suspect the real reason is because he, most likely, only takes a token salary from his “business” and lives off the interest from his investments.

Jan, I think Carly’s probably a bit too old for BillO. Carly’s just about 5 years younger than BillO (while double-checking their ages, I discovered their birthdays are just a few days apart—hers is 9/6, his is 9/10; Carly’s 61 and Bill’s 66).
Originally I was going to write that I can’t find out how old BillO’s ex-wife was when they got married but, considering she gave birth to two children, one in 1998 and the other in 2003 (~2 and 7 years after the marriage), she’s got to be several years younger than BillO (giving birth after 40 is risky enough for most women, but having two children after 40, and 5 years apart really ups the risk—I’d guess she’s probably a decade younger, at least). But, after some sleuthing, I found out (courtesy of IMDb.com) that the former Mrs BillO was born in 1966—nearly 17 years her husband’s junior.
And according to IMDb.com’s page on Mackris (BillO’s former producer whom he sexually harassed), she was born in 1971 (BillO was born in 1949).
If BillO was ready to start up with a woman just 5 years younger than his (then) wife during the marriage, I can’t see that he’d want to have anything to do with a woman just 5 years younger than himself.

The coach might want to bone up on these little midfield prayer sessions. First off, it doesn’t matter in the least that it’s “after the game.” He’s still a school employee in charge of students and he’s in violation of the law which states (and courts have continued to uphold) that THOSE IN CHARGE OF STUDENTS may not lead any sort of prayers (if the players want to do this, that’s perfectly fine—a bit questionable regarding location and time, but fine nonetheless. Hell, he’s even allowed to participate AS LONG AS he does NOT direct the prayer, much less lead it. As to the “after the game,” as noted above, it’s STILL considered “school activity.” If students are required to abide by school policies to attend prom (which is most assuredly held after school hours but story after story has turned up where even public school proms are being governed by “dress codes” that have to meet SCHOOL expectations and many LGBT students continue facing being turned away from their own proms because they take same-sex dates).
Then, too, there’s the fact that his leading the prayer sessions makes it difficult for any player(s) who may wish not to participate. They can feel pressured to participate because of fears or expectations that their playing time may be at risk if they don’t do “what the coach says.” Students may pray at any time and in any place BUT they can NOT be coerced or intimidated into doing so.
Finally, the coach might want to reread his Bible for future reference and heed the words of his supposed “Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ”:
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (bolding mine)
(Luke 18:9-14, KJV)

So. did none of these morons stop and ask themselves why the CHRISTIANS in that little church in South Carolina—who were holding a PRAYER MEETING at the time (they even asked their shooter to join them in prayer)—weren’t better protected from being murdered by Dylann Roof?
And, it’s funny how, just after the Oregon shooting, the big meme was that “Christians were being targeted by the shooter.” Now, do you really think having a PUBLIC PRAYER GROUP is going to make Christians LESS of a target? Or MORE of a target? I know if I wanted to specifically shoot and kill a group of Christians, either a church on Sunday mornings* or a group engaged in a prayer circle or around a “prayer box” would be the first place I’d be heading.
While it wasn’t exactly the reason WHY Jesus advocated “praying in secret,” maybe that would be some fucking good advice for these loudmouthed “Christians” to heed.
*Sunday is, of course, the primary “Sabbath” day for Christians, but a few denominations (the Seventh Day Adventists, in particular) observe it on Saturdays. And, of course, most Christian churches have additional services during the rest of the week, especially in conjunction with certain holidays. But, someone specifically looking to kill a large number of Christians would have a greater than 98% chance of doing so on Sunday morning (a little surveillance could help determine—especially with larger churches—which Sunday morning service would yield the optimal number of victims). Not that I’m making any such plans or anything—purely hypothetical and speculative.

I’m just a bit skeptical. What kind of name is “Myriam” for a Latina? That spelling is a French variation for “Miriam” (according to Behindthename.com).
As for her last name, well, “Witcher” is obviously her husband’s name and no real Latin name uses “w” (the letter is only found in loan words or non-Latin names) which further negates her “Latina” cred.
Of course, nutjobs run the gamut of the ethnic spectrum. Her description of herself knocking on doors “like a Jehovah’s Witness” only adds to the nutjob description. She’s probably as welcome at those doors as a Jehovah’s Witness.

Of course, Billdo and Stuart “Needs to be deported back to the UK” Varney both fail to offer any actual evidence of misdoing on the part of Media Matters.
I didn’t watch the clip but I did a search for the form and it’s going to be kind of interesting to see how many of the complaints get tossed because of items 3, 4 and 5.
Item 3 on the complaint form has a list of check-off boxes with types of violations.
Item 4 asks for DETAILS of said violation.
Item 5 asks for the complainant’s name, including address and telephone number (though a box is provided for the fraidy-cats who are “concerned” about retaliation if their name is made public and the instructions allow for “Anonymous” as a submitter).
Of course, unless Billdo or Varnish gave out Media Matters EIN number, the complaint will largely be worthless. That’s item #2 on the form. (And the instructions only allow for a “state nonprofit corporation registration number, if available” as an alternative. But, the form doesn’t say it can be skipped or have “unknown” listed.)
I also just went to MediaMatters website, and one comment was just perfect.
From Disqus commenter, HZ81:
“Remember, although MMFA is a useless, powerless, irrelevant outrageous propaganda hate site, here’s a whole segment devoted to trying to shut them down in vain.
“Thin-skinned Bill O’Williams and his Hobbit are too funny. Please go after them more!”

And WHY, for crying out loud, does O’Really think that (the great Satan liberal) Dianne Feinstein would deign to take a phone call from him? For starters, members of Congress rarely bother with folks who are NOT their direct constituents (then again, I doubt either of New York’s Senators would be willing to give O’Really any more time than they would any other constituent). For starters, the “media” isn’t out to destroy any Republicon candidate. It’s too busy lapping up every right-wing talking point and regurgitating it as though it were the undisputed truth. (Maybe, if enough RWNJs start reporting how “the media’s out to destroy Carson,” the media might actually start following through…………..)
Secondly, ANY “destruction” of Carson is going to come from his own mouth. The man can’t possibly have a team of people working for him yet; otherwise, they’d be doing their best to keep him from spouting blatantly stupid shit (note—I was going to keep it clean but sometimes, the profanity is just more apropos).

You might want to go ask Kim Davis why she won’t do her job and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. She’s a “public official” who, presumably, took an oath of office promising “to preserve, protect and defend the US Constitution” but she’s deliberately chosen to flout that very Constitution with her defiance of a Supreme Court decision.
There’s even a story of a dental technician working for an Air Force dentist’s office—well, she was working; she was fired. You know why? She’s Hindu, and she dared to report religious-based harassment from her “Christian” boss—despite all sorts of Federal laws the boss violated (not to mention several military directives banning such proselytizing and harassment).. Oh, and she was also accused of “being a witch.” BY HER BOSS. (http://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/10/05/air-force-dental-technician-accused-witch/73398304/ )

Australians obviously need to have guns—but they find no reason to use them on their fellow citizens. There are other things far more deadly in the land Down Under that’ll kill you just as soon as look at you.
The country’s home to something like 6 or 7 of the world’s ten most lethal snakes (and it’s not like they live far away from people—a couple like to live IN the cities). There are spiders and ants that make black widows and fire ants seem positively friendly. Kangaroos and emus can literally kick you to death. There are crocodiles, both fresh-water and salt-water varieties just waiting for you to venture into their territories. And then there’s the ocean. Jellyfish that can barely be seen by the naked eye, but pack a sting that can kill a child. Sharks cruising the coastline. Sea snakes (among the previously mentioned “most lethal” in the world) roam the seas—fortunately, they’re fairly shy and avoid anything they can’t eat, but they’ll defend themselves if necessary.
You don’t need to worry about your next-door neighbors losing it to pack a gun; you just need to worry about the wildlife.

Well, Scottie, perhaps you conservatards have only yourselves to blame for that. I mean, when you talk about a certain moral and ethical behavior high ground, it’s a bit difficult for people to expect anything but “higher standards.”
You know, like when you talk about “family values,” people tend to expect you to NOT be cheating on your spouse (often with someone else’s spouse). When you talk about being “pro-life,” people tend to expect you to support women having appropriate health care and making sure that the babies that get born have a chance to make it to their first birthdays. When you talk about repealing Obamacare, people tend to expect you have a plan to replace it that doesn’t adversely affect people being helped by Obamacare. When you talk about balancing the budget, people tend to expect you to actually balance it instead of proposing more tax cuts for the wealthy that every economist worth his salt says will drive up the deficit. When you talk about “creating jobs,” people tend to expect you to do THAT rather than spend tens of millions of dollars a day on committees that are nothing more than political hatchet jobs (hint: That’s NOT the kind of “job creation” people expected you to be doing).
