Joseph West commented on After Offending Republicans, Chris Christie Calls Rupert Murdoch For Rehab 2012-11-20 23:43:09 -0500 · Flag
Wouldn’t it be nice if New Jersey’s legislature (with Dem majorities in both Houses, according to Wiki) were to call for some kind of hearings on whether Christie is serving the people of New Jersey (who, in theory, elected him) or the will of Rupert Murdoch (who isn’t even a citizen of New Jersey)? I believe that New Jersey’s Constitution contains a provision that the Governor (among other State employees and officials) are required to take an oath or affirmation to support the US and State Constitutions but nothing about "foreign-born citizens (especially those who don’t live in the state).

AAP has an idea that I think NewsHounds need to consider doing: Watching the FoxNoise kkkrew for evidence of THEIR Christmas celebratory set decorations. Check how many Nativity scenes are on display on each program. Watch to see if the sets are decorated with the traditional Advent colors. (I recall in the days—back in the 70s—when I was forced by my parents to attend church, that the church would be decorated for the Christmas season with purple but, what I always thought was the funniest bit for the season was the “Greening” of the church. Garlands of artificial pine—like the kind you buy at the store to decorate your house—would be strung along the walls and the altar. There’d be at least one tree. All the while this was ostensibly done to get everyone in the “Christmas spirit”—without the overly commercial aspect—but completely ignoring the fact that all that green was nothing but Christianized pagan imagery. Admittedly, it was always gorgeous and yet, to me, there always seemed something “wrong” with the whole effect.)

We’ve not even gotten through Thanksgiving, and these FoxNoise pinheads are already at it.

Somewhere, FoxNoise’s preferred Founding Fathers, the Pilgrims, are weeping that the holiday they established is being ignored while the holiday they denounced as being a Papist farce is being turned into a cause célèbre. (Of course, I’m sure the Pilgrims would be horrified to know that Papists are allowed to hold such positions of power.)

“But to ask Danon what President Obama should do? I can just imagine the non-stop Fox News hissy fit if Obama called up an African politician and asked him whether the U.S. should cut off aid to any other country!”

Actually, just imagine the FoxNoise hissyfit if Obama actually took advice from a NON-American politician. The screeches of “turning over US foreign policy to foreigners” would be deafening.

@sandman1: I don’t think that’s possible. UNLESS . . . . she has an “in” with the producer(s). “The Walking Dead” is filmed in the US and airs on the US-based AMC.

Now, if she gets to see the rest of “Doctor Who” Season 7……..well, I’d better start preparing for my interview with the Secret Service.

But given that he seems to be attuned to the issues, one wonders if some of his “mistakes” are deliberate lies meant to misinform and inflame his right wing viewers. . . . While his stats were correct, the first part of the statement is either a mistake or a lie.
-—-
As I commented in an earlier thread (the "White Power Website Praises Bill O’Reilly’s “White Establishment Is Minority” Comment"), is there some reason it can’t be BOTH? After all, Priscilla, you yourself suggest that “some of his ‘mistakes’ are deliberate lies meant to misinform and inflame.” I don’t get why there’s a need to ask “either/or” when it comes to O’Reilly. Give him the benefit of the doubt if you want, but bear in mind, this isn’t someone who deserves it. “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

“*O’Reilly, as usual, is either lying or misinformed. White people represent 63.4% of America. Hardly a minority.”

Can’t he be lying AND misinformed? With O’Reilly, it’s NEVER as simple as “either/or.”

Joseph West commented on Cavuto Flaunts His Elitist Disdain For 47% of Americans 2012-11-15 15:40:56 -0500 · Flag
Boy, for someone who hosts a supposed business show, you’d think Cavuto would understand something as simple as what it means to earn a paycheck.

That whole “no income taxes” line is really wearing thin. EVERY SINGLE PAYCHECK earned by the average working person in this country has a line on it that reads something like “Federal Tax Withheld.” Now, I’m not an economist (and I don’t play one on TV) but when I read that line, I know exactly what it means. And every year—around February or March—when I start to work on my 1040 (due to being single and earning less than $100K a year and not having any investment income, it’s usually the 1040EZ form, but I digress…), the most important lines that I read are the lines: “Wages, salaries and tips” (from box 1 of Form W-2); “This is your adjusted gross income”; “This is your taxable income”; “Federal income tax withheld from Forms W-2 and 1099”; “Total payments and credits”; and “Tax.” Now, again, as a NON-economist, I look at those lines and the words they contain, and it looks like—according to the Government anyway—that I am, lo and behold, PAYING INCOME TAX. (And if, for some reason, your withholdings aren’t enough—for example, you got a pay raise or you held down a second job during the year—you may have to pay additional taxes on top of what had been withheld from your paychecks through the year.)

My employer isn’t just holding that money out of my paycheck to line his own pockets. He’s supposed to be filing paperwork and attaching a check or money order or credit card information for that amount on a periodic basis. (Essentially, that’s what that W-2 is; it’s a sort of receipt showing not only how much money you earned during the year, but how much was withheld by the employer and paid to the government.) Now, we could all go back to the days before the government made it easy and allowed for “weekly” payroll withholding and let everyone be hit with that yearly “sticker shock” when your $50K a year income required you to shell out $7500 at once (hell, I go into sticker shock when it turns out that I have to pay additional tax because my withholdings didn’t cover the overtime or bonus pay or even slight cost-of-living pay raise; again, I digress….) but I don’t think too many Americans would appreciate that—especially if they’ve been fired or laid off and all that “tax money” that hadn’t been withheld wound up being used to pay for silly non-essentials like rent/mortgage and food and utilities while you were out of work.

I just wish that somebody could that through these sorry braindead right-wingers’ skulls. EVERYONE who earns a paycheck pays income taxes. But some people, even those of us in the under $100K per year brackets, overpay during the year and are entitled* to a refund (which is why it’s a “refund”—you overpaid and you’re entitled to get back some of the money YOU paid; just like at a store when you check your receipt and see the cashier overcharged you on an item, you’re entitled to get back the money you overpaid). Unfortunately, the reverse holds true as well: Some of us in the under $100K per year brackets have UNDERpaid (though usually not of our own accord) and have to pay out additional taxes at taxtime.

Oops. I used the dreaded “e” word but I’m sure that even the most braindead of right-wingers don’t have a problem with “entitle” when it benefits (oops, another “bad” word in the right-wing lexicon, unless it’s in their favor) them. It’s like the “Obamaphone” is a “bad” entitlement when it’s a bunch of “those blaahh people” getting them, but when the government’s deciding which state gets to keep its military bases and all that lovely funding, suddenly that state and its GOPer Congresscritters *like “entitlements.”

Joseph West commented on TMI? Dennis Miller's 'Victoria's Secret' Fetish? 2012-11-15 15:04:25 -0500 · Flag
[Miller] sneerinly proclaimed that if wants to go to “lunch and munch of piece of clucker, I gotta wonder if the guy in the front office is a breast man or let’s say a wingman.”

Well, this comment alone proves that Dennis Miller’s never been to Chick Fil-A in his life. Chick Fil-A does NOT serve “breasts” or “wings” in the same way that KFC (or even Hardee’s) does. Chick Fil-A’s reputation was made on chicken sandwiches. Now, while the company does offer things like salads and wraps and chicken nuggets, their primary business is sandwiches (and, according to the company’s own description, the sandwiches are made with breast meat so the whole “breast man/wingman” thing is just stupid).

Now, on another front, Hooter’s tends to specialize in wings and, in fact, I’d be willing to bet you’re far more likely to find chicken wings than breasts or drumsticks on the menus of pretty much any club/restaurant that caters to men looking for a QUICK little lunch (Hooter’s isn’t really much of a step above the neighborhood tavern or sports bar). I strongly doubt that Miller (or the kind of men that Miller seems to think he embodies) would make Applebee’s or Olive Garden or Red Lobster the first choice for a quick little bite before heading back to the office.

Now, as to Miller’s little Victoria’s Secret thing, I’m sure in REAL LIFE (rather than the role he plays when visiting the FoxNoise studios), his wife doesn’t let him watch the Specials the way he alleges here. And I’d be willing to bet she does NOT let him buy her underwear, especially not from Victoria’s Secret.

And Priscilla, you are SO right. If one of the models came down the runway wearing a bishop’s mitre or a nun’s wimple or sporting an oversized cross, O’Reilly would be attacking it faster than you could say “double standard.”

Unfortunately, the “deport” petition doesn’t hold up. American citizens cannot be “deported” unless they hold dual citizenship or they were immigrants who became naturalized citizens.

What IS available is “expulsion.” (An “internal” form of deportation is available but that basically just moves people—usually by force—from one area to another. The last time it was used in this country, though, was WWII against Americans of Japanese ancestry and their new homes were called “relocation camps.” I wouldn’t really have a problem with this, provided we find a good chunk of US territory that doesn’t have any real value other than nuclear test sites or toxic waste disposal sites.)

I contend that you could take the FoxNoise crew outside and tell them that, as a progressive/liberal, you believe the sky is a bright blue, and they’d argue (a) that you ignored all the clouds or (b) that the color is merely caused by atmospheric distortion of solar rays (which, in fact, it is) © or that the sky is some other color and that you are suffering from some bizarre form of color-blindness.

I want a time machine. I then want to load up all these “Christmas Warrrios” in it and drop them off in Massachusetts circa December 20, 1640. Of course, I’d make sure they’re all in appropriate period attire—don’t want the whole crew to be hanged and stoned as witches before they learn the real reason for their visit to the “Founders’ era.”

I’d then pick them up a few days later and ask them how they enjoyed their Christmas “vacation” among other “true believers.” Find out how they fared putting up a nativity scene. Find out what the church did to celebrate Christmas.

Seeing the sheer terror of how they—this group of good Faux Christmas Warriors—were left in tears after being denounced as Papists and being punished for being the “wrong” type of Christians would fill me with such glee. (Then, of course, being able to hijack the FoxNoise Network a day or two later with video footage of how these “warriors” saw what life was really like for the non-Puritans and how closely it parallels FoxNoise’s treatment of “the other” would be so much more fun.)

Here’s some advice to Dick Morris: Next time you want to “help,” do the exact opposite*. Maybe you should’ve predicted something that more closely resembled reality and the GOPers might have been more motivated to get out and vote. There’s been all sorts of stories out there regarding the “overconfidence” of the electorate. A race is supposedly “close” but, at the same time, some major pundit will break out of the pack and declare that one party will be so victorious that the election’s already in the bag and members of that party decide they don’t really need to vote.

*Better yet, just go away. Retire to whatever little toe-sucker’s paradise exists and stay there. With any luck, you’ll inadvertently suck some hooker’s athlete’s foot-infested toes and lose the use of your tongue.

Well, for starters, to have a heart attack, you have to have a heart (or, at least, a reasonable facsimile). As for blood, I’d guess that Miss Malangaangannagnagna doesn’t have blood as much as she has ichor (or, perhaps, more fitting her species*, acid).

*If you look at a picture of her under just the right conditions, she does bear a resemblance to a young Alien.

Heck, could you imagine FoxNoise’s reaction if an Obama financial backer and on-air MSNBC contributor demanded that the network which called North Carolina for Romney then change it to Obama? The FoxNoise kkkrew would have their collective panties in a bunch and demand that MSNBC never allow that contributor to appear again.

Joseph West commented on Greta Van Susteren Helps Turn Out The Evangelicals For Romney 2012-11-06 16:49:53 -0500 · Flag
@Ed: As much as I hate defending Palin, she may have been referring to 2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (KJV)

Of course, the very fact that Palin would have the audacity to suggest that evangelicals would take this verse to heart and vote for GOPers is proof that we desperately need to get all these religious nuts OUT of politics. After all, the Constitution opens with “We, the People” not “Our Father Who art in Heaven.” (And for Palin to suggest that GOP voters would understand what this particular verse means proves she knows her Bible about the same way the Taliban know their Qu’ran—they know all the words, they just don’t understand what the words MEAN. GOP voters simply do NOT understand the meaning of “humble themselves.” And Palin certainly doesn’t.)

Also, when you think about it, invoking God for an election is pretty much the ultimate antithesis to living in a republic (preferred term of Republicons). In a republic, the people have the power (to quote Patti Smith) while what Palin’s doing is more applicable to a theocracy, where God is the ultimate authority and His “representatives on Earth” (whether bishops or mere ministers) don’t need to answer to their “flocks” (i.e., inferiors).

@Thx4Fish: What I’m most struck by is how absolutely NO ONE* calls these Teabaggers** on their BS. The Teabaggers love to brag that they’re “taxed enough already” and that they’re simply trying to “take back their country,” but where are the enquiring minds who’d like to know where all these “patriots” were when Dubya was spending money like a drunken sailor for 8 years and making a complete mockery of the Constitution?

And absolutely no one has bothered to call them on their racism since ALL their activism just suddenly coincided with that "nagger"*** getting in the White House.

By “No one,” of course I mean Sarah Palin’s “lamestream media.” Isn’t it amazing how Palin and the Teabaggers aren’t so concerned about the media’s NOT doing its job when that failure benefits them? But let the media do its job and show the right-wing in less-than-flattering (but *completely accurate) light, and the media must be attacked.

**I won’t apologize for using the word. THEY were the first ones to use it to refer to themselves—only later realizing its sexual usage, after which they suddenly became offended when others used it to describe them. I say, make sure you realize what words you’re using before you use them.

Reference to the “South Park” episode, “With Apologies to Jesse Jackson.” (For those who haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it.)
