It figures that Fox News would pick up on the secessionist movement among people who are very, very upset at Obama’s second victory. According to a Daily Caller article, re-posted on the Fox Nation, the White House has received secession petitions from every state in the union. Texas seems to be at the forefront; this somewhat grammatically challenged petition had nearly 100,000 signatures last time I looked. Last night, Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement, was Hannity’s guest to explain why (H/T Mediaite - sorry, can't find the video on Fox yet).
Hannity doesn't seem to be quite at the secession point. “Isn’t it important that we are the United States of America?” he asked. And didn’t Miller feel an obligation to stay united? “I think we’re faced with the reality that the union has fundamentally changed,” Miller replied. “The fact of the matter is, is that there cannot be a union between those that esteem the principles of Karl Marx over the principles of Thomas Jefferson….What we have seen given on Tuesday was that a majority of the people in the United States, and the states in which they reside, esteem the principles of Karl Marx over those principles.”
And what would a petition to the White House accomplish? Not much, Miller said, except send a message. Eventually he'd like to see the legislature put it to a “non-binding” referendum (Really? Why not a binding one?) and build up to it slowly like they're doing in Scotland. Since it's taken the Scots something like 400 years to get to the referendum stage, I think Texas has a way to go yet.
Why not work within the system, Hannity asked, to convince people conservative values are worth voting for? “I think what you’re talking about,” Miller replied, “that ship has sailed. After four years of an Obama administration – if the people of America didn’t wake up at that point.. then [secession is] the only thing left to people like us who esteem the principles of the founders.” Hannity said he’d rather believe that “with the predictable results of socialism” America will come calling for conservative answers. And left it at that.
If you don't want to sign a secession petition, gentle reader, there are alternatives on the White House petition page. Like this one:
“Have the NCAA declare that any state that votes to secede from the union will not be eligible to play in a bowl game or the basketball tournament in March and will not be allowed to play any teams from the United States again.”
Brilliant, doors! And let’s point out to them that they could no longer be part of NASCAR., at least technically.
What IS available is “expulsion.” (An “internal” form of deportation is available but that basically just moves people—usually by force—from one area to another. The last time it was used in this country, though, was WWII against Americans of Japanese ancestry and their new homes were called “relocation camps.” I wouldn’t really have a problem with this, provided we find a good chunk of US territory that doesn’t have any real value other than nuclear test sites or toxic waste disposal sites.)
Since they worship their college football in the south, and basketball in Kentucky and Indiana, I guarantee you this will put an end to this nonsense. Besides letâs not forget that the red states are the biggest receptions of federal dollars. They will never give up their candy.
