Ms Pirro might also want to remember that most Iraqi Christians are NOT a part of Pope Francis’s “flock.” He is the spiritual leader ONLY of Roman Catholic Christians and a handful of smaller churches affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. In addition to a number of Protestant and Evangelical Christians, there are a number of Eastern Rite Christians from the Eastern Orthodox rites and Oriental Orthodox rites—and none of these churches recognize the Pope’s authority. I’m sure they respect his statements on their behalf but they don’t consider themselves part of his “flock.”

@ Jane S: I agree with the “alienating and annoying the hell out of his neighbors” comment. Aside from Belarus and Kazakhstan, NONE of Russia’s neighbors is eager to work with Russia on anything of any substance (except, perhaps, on the issue of “Who can be most antigay this week”).

In fact, something I’ve suggested previously is that all of the former Soviet republics with large Russian populations should put down the hammer with the prospect of forced deportation/repatriation to Russia (whether Putin wants the influx or not) of any ethnic Russian who places their Russian ethnicity above their being citizens of the FSR. Now, I’m not really sure if this would be acceptable under international guidelines but we’ve already seen how Russia doesn’t care about following the conventions of international law (in the wake of the illegal annexation of Crimea); while I understand the principle of “2 wrongs don’t make a right,” it doesn’t seem as though Mr Putin understands anything except ultimatums (ultimata?). And it would cause some difficulties in some of the countries (especially the Baltic states) with a sudden loss of ethnic Russians in many jobs but hopefully there are more ethnic Russians who are loyal citizens of their current countries than “Greater Russia” enthusiasts.

“I think he’s so disassociated from reality… that right now, President Obama Bill O’Reilly is locked into this ideological fantasy world. The kind of world that they teach at Harvard FoxNews. Where you adjudicated and so did I. They teach a fantasy world at Harvard FoxNews, a world of what should be. Not of what is. And therefore, when you see what is, you turn away and say, ‘You know, nah, nah, I’m not gonna deal with that.’ I really believe that’s what’s causing all of this stuff.”

And with a few mere changes in wording, you have Bill O’Reilly talking about Bill O’Reilly.

Joseph West commented on Palin Boasts That Being Able To See Russia From Alaska Gave Her Insight Into Invasion Of Ukraine 2014-07-22 03:00:02 -0400 · Flag
Well, hate to break it to SaladSpewer and Hownutty but Sarah’s “prediction” was somewhat off the mark.
……..
Hannity played a 2008 video clip of Palin on the campaign stump saying:

“After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next.”
……..

Maybe my memory’s playing tricks on me, but Russia has NOT invaded Ukraine. Yes, Putin’s behind the separatists, even encouraging them, but, so far, the Russian Army has NOT crossed into Ukraine. And, again, yes, Russia annexed Crimea (quite illegally and following a kind of voter fraud that Republicons across the country can only envy) and sent in Russian troops but, it must be argued that it was separatists who started the trouble in the first place.

The difference between wealthy Democratic politicians and wealthy Republicon politicians can be summed up as this:

The Democrat will ask a voter, “How are you” with genuine concern and empathy. The Republicon will ask “Who are you” with an air of “Why are you near me” in the tone.

Joseph West commented on Fox's Napolitano Suggests Republicans Impeach President Obama Instead Of Suing Him 2014-07-17 19:10:54 -0400 · Flag
Would the “Judge” kindly point to the SPECIFIC “high crimes” and/or “misdemeanors” for which Congress needs in order to impeach a President? Granted, impeachment can also be done for treason or bribery BUT a President (or any other high official of the Government) must be proved guilty in court of ANY of those offenses before impeachment proceedings can be held. (Interestingly, the reason for Andrew Johnson’s impeachment was based on a law that had been passed by Congress the year before and would be repealed by Congress 20 years later and the repeal would be upheld in a SCOTUS case in the 1920s. Basically, Johnson faced impeachment because he believed the President does NOT need Congressional approval to dismiss a Cabinet member.)

Simply disagreeing with the political opposition is NOT sufficient for a charge of “treason” to be leveled against the President. If the “Judge” thinks what Obama’s done constitutes “treason,” I hope he’s as ready when a DEMOCRATIC House files impeachment charges against a GOP President for “treason.” For some reason, I don’t think he’ll do that, though.

Actually, Jane, Yugoslavia’s history was even more bizarre than you mention.

You’re correct when you point out that there was never a Yugoslavia historically but when the country was first established after WWI, it was created as a bit of a front for Serbia. After the Serbs gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in the late 1870s, it had slowly been enlarging, mainly to the south at the expense of the Ottomans (especially following the Balkan Wars in 1912 and 1913). But it was also promoting itself as the “defender of the South Slavic peoples” and its leaders were looking to bring in the other Balkan Slavic peoples (the Bulgarians, Macedonians, Croats, Slovenes and Montenegrins) under Serbian control leadership. And it was this mindset that led to the extremist, Gavrilo Princip, to assassinate the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, sparking WWI. (Ironically, in the early days of the war, Austria-Hungary overran Serbia so completely that the country’s leaders had to flee and if, in 1916, a cease-fire and peace treaty had been signed, Serbia would’ve ceased to exist as an independent country.) After the end of the war, Serbia simply wanted an “enlarged Serbia” rather than a Yugoslavia but Serbia’s parliament had agreed to a unified Yugoslavia but, when the country emerged, it was as the “Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes” (note how the Serbs got first mention) and the first king of the new country just happened to be Peter I, the King of Serbia.

The Pan-Slavic movement had hoped this would put an end to the differences between the various Slavic nationalities while Serbs saw the new country as vindication of their hopes. And, as Serbia was better established as a country (Montenegro had united with Serbia immediately after the Central Powers armies had withdrawn from the Balkans), the Croats and Slovenes accepted Serb leadership but expected to be treated as equals—something the Serbs didn’t really intend. That was part of the reason that led, during WWII, to the Slovenian acceptance of being reannexed to Austria and the independence of Croatia under a Fascist/Nazi regime (other territories, mostly non-Serbian, were annexed by Bulgaria, Italy and Hungary or turned into protectorates of Italy and Germany). During WWII, the Communists under Tito put aside all nationalistic differences while the non-Communists tended to fight as separate nationalist groups which led the Allies to fund Tito’s Partisans.

Tito himself was the child of a Croat father and a Slovene mother and when he led the Partisans, he saw how the “tribal rivalries” could work against them and strongly put down any attempts that might put one group over the others, and he maintained that policy throughout his leadership of Yugoslavia. Unfortunately, like many dictators, he didn’t have a real successor who had the same personal strength to keep disparate groups loyal and, while the country held together under a rotating leadership of Croat, Slovene and Serbian politicians, the Serbs began pushing their way into more and more prominent positions, leading to resentment by Croats and Slovenes and a fracturing of the country and independence movements.

Joseph West commented on Bill O'Reilly: Supporting Abortion Rights 'Morally Wrong' Because DNA Present At Conception 2014-07-17 16:57:48 -0400 · Flag
Bill, believe it or not but you’ve basically opened the door to banning barber shops and hair salons. Hair contains DNA. If you get a manicure or pedicure (generic you—I know, the big manly BillO would never consider such a thing), the fingernails and toenails and sloughed off skin all contain DNA.

And what about the hospitals? How much human DNA winds up in medical waste every single day? Do we shut down hospitals to prevent the loss of DNA?

Or what about when a kid falls down and scrapes his knee on a sidewalk? Skin cells and blood also contain DNA, so do we ban the kids from using sidewalks (to keep them from possibly falling down on them) or do we just ban sidewalks?

And should we send used Kleenex and toilet paper to you, Bill? I mean, how much human DNA winds up on those items which wind up in the trash or the toilet after they’ve been used?

And, Bill, don’t even THINK of throwing out old furniture, like sofas, chairs or beds, because there’s who-knows-how-much DNA left buried in the fibers.

Bill, allow me to quote Alexander Pope: “A little learning is a dangerous thing.”

“made after he was allegedly assaulted by a black woman in Times Square.”

FTFY, Ellen.

The only “evidence” of any attack is Cumia’s pictures. However, the pictures conveniently omit anything Cumia may have done to instigate the woman’s actions. Cumia had no real reason to be taking pictures of anyone without permission, even in a place that’s usually as busy as Times Square. ESPECIALLY when you’re taking pictures of INDIVIDUALS. You get the person’s permission, either beforehand or afterwards. Cumia’s own tweets acknowledge that the woman did NOT want him taking her picture.

But that still leaves unanswered the question; Did Cumia do anything else that might have provoked the woman into “attacking” him?

Joseph West commented on Bob Beckel Rants Against Chinese With Ethnic Slur 2014-07-11 15:10:16 -0400 · Flag
Dave, someone commenting on an AOL piece about this was actually dumb enough to say he didn’t see how it was a slur because it’s like someone saying “American men.” What that yahoo had to have explained was that NO ONE uses “American men” in the same way as “Chinaman” or “Chinamen.”

“American men” is a two-word phrase describing the male population of a certain country. “Chinaman” is a one-word phrase that has a HISTORY as an ethnic slur. Granted, it was largely replaced as a slur by “chink” (though it doesn’t seem to have really been as widespread until around the Korean War era in which case it could have derived from CHINese Communist—CHINC being pronounced, and spelled, as chink). But “Chinaman” was especially common as a slur from the 1850s through the late 1930s. Admittedly, there were times when it wasn’t intended as a direct slur but it was still used in a condescending or patronizing fashion (the n-word was used in a similar fashion up to the Civil War; from Reconstruction on, it became more of a deliberate racial slur while “colored” and “nigra” became used as the condescending/patronizing form).

Perhaps “Douchy” needs to reread the First Amendment. He seems to have missed that little part about CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAWS.

Last time I checked, HGTV is NOT the government and it’s not owned by the government. It’s a privately owned company (it’s part of the Scripps Network Interactive group—ironically based in Nashville, TN where LGBTs aren’t protected by law). HGTV is free to discriminate against anyone it feels like.

If Hobby Lobby is allowed to refuse to provide certain contraceptive plans based on its “corporate religious freedom,” then HGTV is free to refuse to air shows hosted by religious bigots (part of HGTV’s “corporate freedom of speech” and “corporate freedom of assembly”). Or, a bit more succinctly, it should be noted that Tennessee (mentioned as the HQ of HGTV’s parent company) is a “right-to-work” state—companies don’t have to employ anyone they don’t want to as long as the “discrimination” is NOT based on a “protected” class.

Let’s see. Mexican drug cartels like to sell drugs to people. Extreme Islamist groups don’t like drug dealers (and, in fact, execute them). Hell, even moderate Muslim governments ban the sale of alcohol to anyone but foreigners (and hotels and bars that cater to Westerners and other non-Muslims are usually targeted by extremist Muslim groups).

So, sure. Why wouldn’t they be working together?

If anything, the cartels would be executing any suspected Islamists for fear of losing potential sales.

Perhaps Mr Shapiro could, oh I don’t know, go “volunteer” to help fight for Israel, by putting on an IDF uniform? According to Wiki, he’s 30 years old—still well within the required service age for Israeli men (who are actually required to be available for service until they’re 45 IMS; active-duty is only required up to about 35 IMS).

But, then again, Shapiro’s nothing more than your typical chicken-hawk, willing to risk other people’s lives while sitting back in the safety of his own home. And, on top of it, he’s one of the JACs (Jewish-American Chickenhawks) who put the well-being of Israel over the well-being of the US.

I wonder how many veterans could’ve been seen at VA hospitals if it weren’t for all these GOP dog-and-pony shows they call “investigations?”

It’s just too bad there aren’t any Dems in Congress willing to call out these GOP grandstanders. You know, do a commercial along the lines of “While Congressional Republicans were busy spending more millions of dollars on investigations that went nowhere, scores of veterans died because they couldn’t get into VA clinics—clinics that could’ve desperately used the money the GOP wasted. For a party that claims to be ‘fiscally responsible,’ the GOP has a funny way of showing it. Millions so someone can show off for the cameras while our veterans suffer.”

Yeah, Steve, I remember that. But, at least the song title would SUGGEST a patriotic tone. With Watters’ obsession, though, it makes NO sense whatsoever. Bey’s song’s full title is “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” which suggests that Bey is urging women to (gasp!) get married; of course, as I noted, the actual meaning is that, if a guy doesn’t want to lose his lady, he needs to do something positive about it instead of acting like she doesn’t matter and getting all jealous when she sees he wasn’t “all that.”

The same way YOU got “canned” as Governor of Alaska.

Except the ladies “canned” from “The View” didn’t have any scandals they were running away from.

Still, a “canned” ham is better suited to be a host for “The View” than you are.
