Hannity continued his charade of racial sensitivity last night with an entire show devoted to making martyrs out of black conservatives, especially Hannity’s latest cause celebre, Dr. Ben Carson. The only problem? As Hannity whined that he is “livid” at being called a racist, one of his many bigoted pals, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, was right there in his cherry-picked, all-conservative, mainstream-African-American-hating studio “audience.” And there were plenty of digs at non-conservative African Americans – i.e. the vast majority of them – without anyone to speak on their behalf.
The show was apparently pre-taped before Dr. Carson made his apology and after the firestorm that erupted when he painted same-sex marriage as a perversion. In the segment with Carson that preceded the audience discussion, he was still playing the role of a racial victim.
As I’ve repeatedly written, Hannity’s record on race is abysmal. Starting (as far as I know) with his palsiness with white supremacist Hal Turner and continuing as recently as likening Rep. Keith Ellison to a black "equivalent" of a KKK member, Hannity makes it a point to cozy up to bigots and race bait against African Americans.
But, apparently, Hannity thinks that portraying Carson’s critics as racist absolves himself of all those sins. Or camouflages them. In any event, Hannity announced last night:
I’m livid as a conservative when I’m called a racist. Because it’s not true. I’m a Christian. I am livid at the characterization that if you’re conservative, you don’t care about African Americans, you don’t care about Latinos. Because that is the antithesis of how I was raised, who I am and the way I was born.
Maybe so, but Hannity has an uncanny knack for finding, sympathizing and standing up for a large assortment of bigots and their causes. Think George Zimmerman, birtherism, Don Imus, Mel Gibson and more. Plus, Hannity may want to but we can’t forget his sickening attacks on Haitian immigrant Abner Louima. Hannity “defended” the NYC policeman Louima accused of sodomy by repeatedly smearing Louima as a “liar” and with a homophobic song. As FAIR reported, “Hannity stopped referring to the victim as ‘Lying Louima’ only after (the police officer) confessed to sodomizing Louima with the help of another officer.” Echoes of the way Hannity’s now “defending” Carson, eh?
In fact, Hannity is still palling around with Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a guy who thanks God for slavery, who thinks “most blacks” in Tennessee are “so racist,” and who thinks white people should be more forthcoming with their thoughts that might be construed as racist.
“I was a Democrat at one time and as a young person, I had a lot of anger,” Peterson told the Hannity viewers last night. He went on to say that he had “believed that lie” that Republicans are racist. He added, “We’ve got to educate the young.” Apparently, that means educate them to believe that blacks and Democrats are racist. In addition to the examples above, Peterson has said, in front of Hannity:
“I think we all agree that Barack Obama was elected by, mostly by black racists and white guilty people. Most black Americans, 96 percent of them, are racists who (unintelligible) white Americans. And white folks feel guilty and they are afraid of being called racists.” (2/3/09 Hannity)
“(Obama) wants us to take care of people who really will not get up and take care of themselves… You know what? I have changed the White House from being the White House to Big Mama’s House.” (3/19/10 Hannity)
Hannity continued, “I want to make sure that anybody that has any point of view has the ability and right to speak out without experiencing what everybody in this room has experienced.”
And then his guests let loose with a string of attacks on mainstream African Americans, 96% of whom approve of President Obama’s job performance, unlike Dr. Carson.
“When’s the last time someone questioned your whiteness?” one guest asked Hannity. Another guest complained about the “types of platforms” that allow for that to happen. He cited Vice President Biden’s “put y’all back in chains” comment that caused such a big hoopla on Fox. The guest was talking about Biden's predominantly African American crowd when he said, “They allowed that to happen because they create that atmosphere for such.” Next up, a woman who complained about “another African American female” who said she was in the same, mostly white college because of affirmative action. The young woman said, “I don’t know why a lot of people carry that and are looking for their 40 acres and a mule still when that’s – you know, get over it. We got our 40 acres and a mule because look at where we are today.”
As the music began playing to end the segment, another woman went on to accuse the Congressional Black Caucus and the black law students association in her law school of being racists.
“I wish everybody in this room was elected,” Hannity said to close the segment.
For the record, I think black conservatives have a perfectly valid point of view and I'll even grant that they get unfairly attacked for their opinions. Just like white conservatives get attacked when they stray the party line. But for Hannity to shut out the views of the majority of African Americans and then demonize them to his predominantly white audience indicates he's more interested in demagoguing over race than he is in promoting any understanding. I doubt he did Dr. Carson any good, either.
A christian? B.S. If the masses really knew what he has done behind closed doors, his broadcasting career would come to a screeching halt. There are two sides of this clown, one is a very dark side.
The Stop Hannity Express knew in advance that racist Hannocchio would invite an all-black audience. Many in the audience are friends of Hannocchio. He knows them through other so-called “black” conservative organizations.
Monday’s segment was a reenactment of how slaves were treated by their massa. As long as the house negro was good to the massa, he rewards them with a warm bed and food from the massa’s kitchen.
Today, the modern day house negro continues to please the massa-Hannocchio-and he/she is rewarded with a donation to his “black” conservative organization, free tickets to banquets, and an appearance on the massa’s tv show on Fox “News” Channel.
NOTE TO HANNITY
Hal Turner told us everything about you two. And we mean, everything. He stands by his statement today, racist.
To answer other comments on here… I went through for if Hannity had put up any black people who had the slightest bit of pride in being black, and (not surprisingly)… no. The closest he has is that a couple of them will shut it off when they know they’re entering “getting rocks hucked that them” territory.
Well, Jesse Lee, you have quite the conundrum facing you. Those that you are hungrily sucking up to are simply using you because you’re dumb enough to condemn 95% of your own race in order to curry favor with those that consider you nothing better than a ‘token’.
And those that you that you condemn are not quite stupid enough to be fooled by you.
