Fox Baselessly Casts Doubt On Election Results
Rick Folbaum, guest hosting Happening Now yesterday, made a deliberate effort to suggest the election results last week were illegitimate. First, he hyped Allen West’s doomed efforts to contest the election he clearly lost and then Folbaum fear mongered about a high turnout in Philadelphia. But despite the lack of any hard facts, Folbaum had his two guests debate his inflammatory supposition that the media is “ignoring” the story.

Immediately after the election, some Republicans talked about how, if the GOP is to remain viable, it should be reaching out to minorities who represent a growing American demographic. Meanwhile, on Fox, there was talk about how the Obama victory was based on the votes of those lazy slobs who want "entitlements" which is right wing code talk for "welfare," - a blaring, racist dog whistle. Leading the pack was Bill O'Reilly who, on election night, said that "there are 50% of the voting public who want stuff. They want things. And who is going to give them things? President Obama." Following up on Bill O'Reilly was another privileged white dude who, like Bill, is upset about the demise of the white, American patriarchy. On Fox & Friends, Judge Andrew Napolitano provided validation for O'Reilly in what seemed to be a new Fox meme that underscores the hateful class warfare fostered by Fox News - not the way to win minorities!

Recently, former Miss America and Christian warrior queen Gretchen Carlson did an interview on a radio program for "moms." In addition to talking about her role as a mom, Gretch also discussed the importance of her Christian faith which, she admitted, she frequently mentions on Fox News. But it gets better. Gretch informed her audience that she got her role on Bill O'Reilly's show because she was "incensed" over Nativity scene controversies that forced her drive her children by holiday displays where Baby Jesus has only a small place among other holiday imagery including the atheist tree and the Festivus pole. And that brought her to the attention of Bill O'Reilly who brought her on his show where they talked ad-nauseum "extensively" about this. The rest is history. Who knew!

While some Republicans are doing some serious soul searching about how their failure to reach out to minorities cost them the presidency, Fox News is doubling down on the bigotry that - duh - does alienate minorities from the GOP. Since President Obama took office, the alternate reality of rightwing world has been suffused with the notion that because Obama is African-American, he is giving out "free stuff" to lazy, shiftless blacks. The latest iteration of this meme is the bogus "Obama Phone" which, in bizarro world, is a free phone for lazy, shiftless blacks. Not only did conservative "comedian," Steven Crowder, promote, on Fox & Friends, this right wing urban legend; but Fox & Friends used a bogus visual in the process. Last week, Steve Doocy's guest, Mark Steyn, whose paranoia about Muslims and immigrants ruining Western, white society is in a league with Pat Buchanan, cited the "Obama Phone" in a discussion about how those welfare slackers who want free stuff are ruining the country.
Read moreDick Morris: I Predicted Romney’s Landslide To Help Him Win
Dick Morris visited the Hannity show tonight to explain how he got it so wrong with his prediction of a “landslidey” Romney win. After blaming Hurricane Sandy and acknowledging that he got it “dead wrong” about the demographic turnout, Morris made a jaw-dropping admission. That his prediction was designed to help turn around Romney’s failing campaign.

Count Cal Thomas as the latest member of the Fox News Sore Losers Club. On Saturday night’s Fox News Watch (11/9/12), Thomas continued the Fox News attacks on Obama voters as some kind of welfare queens. Then, after Kirsten Powers shot him down, he switched gears and said that people are struggling because they can’t find work that pays enough.

The results of the recent election show that the single ladies didn't have their hands raised for Mitt Romney. But rather than thinking about ways to appeal to them, Fox is trashing them with the claim that the Obama vote was based on wanting free stuff - a meme Fox is also is using to trash minorities. There was some rich irony in Friday's "Culture Warrior" segment which had the unmarried mother, Laura Ingraham, presiding over a discussion which was, in sweet and subtle tones, another attack on single women. Given that right wing icon (gag) Phyllis Schafly seems to have been the genesis of the unmarried woman as welfare slacker meme, it was fitting that right wing female "culture warriors" would be carrying the battle standard in the right wing media battalion otherwise known as Fox News!

On Saturday, November 10, Frank Luntz told America’s News HQ that Fox News viewers should be “outraged” at how they had been misled to believe Mitt Romney would win the election by “Republican establishment polls.” But while Luntz may not have run misleading polls, himself, he conducted a number of focus groups that suggested Romney would win. And he discussed them on a network that repeatedly suggested a Romney win.
