Fox News Outrageous Quote Of The Week – 10/6/13-10/12/13
Another week, another slew of outrageous quotes from Fox News pundits and guests. This week, you’ve got some more tough choices, dear readers. You’ve got Dennis Miller discussing “closeted” Muslims, Guy Benson dangerously suggesting young people would be better off going without health insurance, Elisabeth Hasselbeck revealing that television and air conditioning is the “ugly side of entitlements” and more.

Stuart Varney's desire to punish federal workers with the government shutdown was a most deserving winner of our Fox News Outrageous Quote Of The Week. Although he had some competition from 2nd place winner Anna Kooiman, Varney pulled it out with a decisive victory.

On Friday, Fox News took its war on the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") to a whole new, dangerous level when Fox News contributor Guy Benson urged young people to go without health insurance. Host Gretchen Carlson not only helped validate Benson’s idea, she never pointed out the very serious dangers in such a proposition.

Screw poor women and babies that need food through a WIC program that has been curtailed as a result of the government "slim down." In the alternate reality of the right wing, the most egregious result of the shut down of government services was the closing off of a veteran's monument - a closing that allowed members of the GOP crazy caucus to have a great photo-op with the vets who broke through the barricades. And because immigration activists were allowed to have a rally on National Mall, right wing veterans are mad as hell. Their righteous wrath was documented by wingnut "filmmaker" Dennis Lynch whose oeuvre consists of xenophobic pieces of paranoia, pimped on Fox, about how those "illegals" are sneaking into America to slit your throat. So are we surprised that he would be warmly welcomed by new opinion show host Megyn Kelly who was muy sympatico with the white, racist veteran featured in Lynch's video....

We gathered quite a collection of emails for Fox last week. We've got complaints that Fox was off the air in the Shenandoah Valley, a decent suggestion for how to solve our budget crisis (really), someone who did not enjoy Megyn Kelly's interview with Ted Cruz and more. Check 'em out, after the jump!
Read moreFox's Ed Henry Walks Out Of White House Press Briefing After Snub
Fox News' White House Correspondent Ed Henry was, apparently, miffed that he was not going to be able to ask one of his gotcha questions. So, with the same good sportsmanship we've seen so much of from his Republican home team, he walked out.

One of the top GOP right wing/Fox News memes is that there is no war on women and that all the anti-choice bills and attempts to defund Planned Parenthood are righteous attempts to save us women from our silly and slutty selves. The reality, however, is that there is a concerted effort to deprive women of the reproductive rights and chief among those who are trying to do this is Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli. His numbers, understandably, are abysmal among women. So given that Fox News is the first stop for on any Republican rehab tour, it wasn't surprising to see him on Fox & Friends where he was interviewed by new friend, Elisabeth let-the-poor-die-of-heat-exhaustion Hasselbeck who, in effect, provided him with his very own Fox News campaign ad.

Not surprisingly, that big trucker protest designed to “shutdown Obamacare and corruption in D.C.” was a bust. But it wasn’t for lack of favorable publicity on Fox News, especially from Megyn Kelly. She was wasn’t just friendly to one of the extremist protesters last night, she sounded as though she thought he was the best thing to happen to our country since Paul Revere.
Read moreElisabeth Hasselbeck: Air Conditioning And Cell Phones Are The ‘Ugly Side’ Of Welfare
I posted earlier about how Elisabeth Hasselbeck cast truth aside in order to attack President Obama and fear monger about Obamacare last night. The day before, she went after her fellow Americans who aren't as fortunate as she to make the big bucks lying and smearing on television. Hasselbeck “asked," “Do these folks really need to be on welfare?” Then, after a clip of a few welfare recipients telling Fox’s John Stossel that they have air conditioning and cable TV, she praised his reporting for “exposing the ugly side of entitlements.”
Read moreFr. Jonathan Morris Says Screw U, God Hating Atheist And Jew?
While America is religiously very diverse, Fox News is, like its news staff, mostly monochromatic when it comes to religion. Unlike Fox News, MSBNC doesn't pretend to be "fair & balanced." Yet, on "Morning Joe," the "faith on Friday's" segment features representatives of all faiths while the "fair & balanced" Fox features, almost exclusively, a Catholic priest for its Sunday religion segment. Fr. Jonathan Morris is a reliable mouthpiece for the talking points of the GOP, religious right, and the Catholic bishops' views on reproductive issues - immigration and poverty, not so much. Not surprisingly, Morris supports those Christians who are praying that the Supreme Court will overturn a 2nd Circuit Court decision regarding prayer before public meetings. Fresh from a Florida Catholic Charities fund raiser and before his jaunt to Rome with Cardinal Dolan's entourage, Fr. Morris explained it all for us and in so doing was able to engage in standard Fox atheist bashing with a dash of thinly veiled anti-Semtism. Bless you father, for you have propagandized!
