Predictably, Fox News’ attacks on Nancy Pelosi for supposedly having secret information about why Newt Gingrich will not be president (when it’s pretty much a no brainer to most of us) continued on prime time last night. On The Record devoted an entire segment to the attack issue with Fox News’ Democratic contributor, Joe Trippi. Sadly, Trippi ignored the possibility that when Pelosi said she “knew” Gingrich would not be president, she was stating the obvious and he joined with host Greta Van Susteren, saying that if Pelosi had damaging information she ought to come right out with it. Yet Trippi somehow ignored the blatant Fox News hypocrisy going on under his nose: Nobody seems to care about the secret information Donald Trump has from that big Hawaii investigation into President Obama’s birth certificate (about which he crowed his investigators “cannot believe what they’re finding”).
How many times has Trump been on Fox since he boasted about that investigation last April? I count at least seven times, four On The Record – not counting Trump’s appearance on On The Record later that night - with no questions about what he supposedly secretly knows.
I’m a believer in Democrats going on Fox News. But there’s simply no excuse for anyone who holds him or herself up as a Democratic “strategist” for going along with this blatant anti-Democratic bias.
“I’m with the Speaker on this,” Van Susteren said, referring to Gingrich, when Pelosi is much more of a recent “Speaker” than he is. “She (Pelosi) either needs to disclose it or stop it.”
Trippi’s laughable “advocacy” was that it could have been some kind of sneaky ploy by Pelosi to make Gingrich, supposedly an easier opponent for Obama to beat, the nominee.
Van Susteren let forth a torrent of indignant disdain toward Pelosi – something she never expresses to Trump. Yet, while overlooking that, Trippi praised Gingrich by saying his attacks on Pelosi were “exactly right” and that she should “put up or shut up.” The best defense Trippi seemed to be able to muster up was that politics is ugly.
