In addition to being the place where Islam is smeared "with impunity," Fox News also has a history of race baiting. While the after the 2012 election, the GOP talked about reaching out to minorities, Fox News talkers validated the right wing narrative of white makers vs. lazy, minority takers. But recently, on Fox, there has been a more insidious level of race baiting which was articulated in Megyn Kelly's infamous statement, as Fox Fact, that Jesus (as well as Santa) is white - a view which suggests that Fox is playing to the darkest and ugliest reaches of the radical white right. But what makes this even more unsavory is that Kelly is being defended by white supremacists. Forget the religious right - is Fox News the "Aryan" nation newsroom?
Earlier this year, Fox News advanced the race baiting "scary black men" meme in a series of shows that purported to show that there is an epidemic of black on white crime - a bogus story that is, as documented by the ADL, part of the white supremacist worldview. Both O'Reilly and Brian Kilmeade whitewashed (pun intended) a British white supremacist skinhead. Now we have Megyn Kelly's reaction to a gentle satirical piece, by an African-American writer, who reflected that the presence of white Santas, in an increasingly diverse population, makes minority kids feel alienated. Megyn declared that it's not just Santa who is melanin challenged - but Jesus was a white man, too. But Megyn isn't the first to come up with the Jesus is a white man meme. It has a history that is intrinsically bound up in notions of racism and white privilege.
In the book, "The Color of Christ, A Story of Race and Religion in America," by Edward J Blum and Paul Harvey, the authors note that “The birth, growth, and evolution of White Jesus imagery dating from the antebellum era and exploding in the twentieth century coincided with the birth of an American empire founded, in part, in notions of race." Chauncey De Vega writes that the popular image of a white Jesus was created, in 1941, as a visual embodiment of American Exceptionalism based on the notion that this is a Christian nation. He states that this "logic is perfectly cogent: a racial project of exploitation and enslavement of non-whites by Europeans, one legitimized by a belief in the natural inferiority of people of color, the pseudo-science of the Great Chain of Being, a belief in the Curse of Ham as well as other myths, must, for reasons of practical necessity, be predicated on the existence of a “white” God."
The "Christian Identity" movement, which has close ties to the KKK and neo-Nazi groups, promotes the idea of a white Jesus. A KKK website clearly states, as did Megyn Kelly, that Jesus was white. So while Ms. Kelly might have been expressing her own opinion, the idea that Jesus was white is not a new one - and in expressing this opinion, Kelly is in bad company, indeed.
And that's where the white supremacists come in. On Stormfront ("White Pride, Worldwide"), Kelly is defended against charges of racism. The comments are also in full agreement with the notion of a white Jesus.
Is it more than just coincidence that Kelly's comment seems to fit a greater Fox narrative that is rooted in base bigotry? We don't know. But what we do know is that if Fox News is dreaming of a white Christmas, they might not be thinking about frozen precipitation!
Two points about that comment of yours, Tom:
1. Their, there, they’re: learn the correct usage so you won’t appear to be so uneducated.
2. We’re kind of hoping that one of the consequences that you speak of will be the extinction of those that believe like you. However, since you and your friends have such little effect in the country as well as the world, we really don’t worry about that much.
But, hey, thanks for allowing Santa to be any color!
In other words, JB… Your twisted little mind thinks that wanting to end racial prejudice is just wanting to kill the white people. Even though there are hate groups for every race and creed under the sun.
You might wanna rethink that line, there. I mean… Really.
“Forget the religious right – is Fox News the “Aryan” nation newsroom?"
Here’s your answer Priscilla: IS THE POPE CATHOLIC?
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again and again until I’m blue in the face:
IF IT WALKS LIKE A NAZI, TALKS LIKE A NAZI, AND ACTS LIKE A NAZI……well, we all know the rest.
The U.S. is 62% Racist and 38% Diverse.
Australia is 69% Racist and 31% Diverse.
Europe is 82% Racist and 18% Diverse.
END RACISM NOW!!!
WE NEED MORE DIVERSITY!!!
“Anti-racist” is a codeword for anti-white.
Supremacists—regardless of color—believe they are better than anyone else. The problem is that the white variety have been in power in this country for the better part of the past 300 years and they’re desperate to keep that power and they’re terrified because the country is no longer that Norman Rockwell “White America” picture that they’re so desperate to hold on to.
For starters, Genghis Khan killed many Mongols in his rise to power (in fact, his own father was killed by a rival Mongol chieftain). So, by your “reasoning,” he was being a racist against his own kind. Furthermore, Genghis barely got into Europe. He made as far as the Ural Mountains and Caspian Sea—areas populated by TURKISH ethnic groups. In European Russia, the deaths he caused were hardly any more appalling than the deaths that the Russians themselves were causing in their own expansion. However, the bulk of Mongol attacks against various Russian states came AFTER Genghis’s death.
As for your “Muslim Caliphate” crap, that’s all it is: Crap. Christians (and Jews, for that matter) were treated far better by the Muslims than they were by the people who’d preceded the Muslims. Most of the “Europeans” in North Africa were members of the barbarian tribes that helped bring the downfall of the Western Roman Empire—and they were certainly no models of civility themselves. Furthermore, you know who was responsible for the majority of Christian deaths during the Crusades? OTHER CHRISTIANS. By the time of the Crusades, Christianity had split into two factions: The Western Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches. The Catholic Pope authorized (even blessing) various Crusaders’ sacks of Orthodox Christian cities and monasteries. And the Vikings were as likely to capture fellow Europeans and enslave them as any non-European was.
As to the Muslim enslavement of Africans, well that figure still pales in comparison of the ATLANTIC Slave Trade, perpetrated by the English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Portuguese from the mid 1500s through the early 1800s (to say nothing of the untold number of African slaves who died en route to the American colonies during that time).
Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.
And I also know that these people are simply fighting the extinction that is inevitable for them. They stink of desperation, and probably from a lack of the most basic hygienic skills.
They’re done….and they know it.
