And taking a few minutes to ponder it, I think I see why the right-wing religious nuts are so willing to believe that kids will “turn gay” if they see positive LGBT role models. I mean, look how fast “tebowing” has taken off in terms of being imitated, even among the not-particularly religious (although, it must be noted, the not-particularly religious tend to tebow as a form of sarcasm, not a sign of respect or thanks*).
Just for what it’s worth, the standard tebowing pose may be viewed as a sign of respect or thanks in *some non-religious settings. Such as a gay bathhouse or the backrooms of some particularly open-minded gay bars.

Well, as I see it, the biggest difference between the folks in 1776 and the folkkks at the Fox Nation today is the guys in 1776 were willing to shed THEIR OWN blood (not extort others to do all the dirty work) and were willing to face the consequences if things went wrong (remember, the signers of the Declaration of Independence full well knew that if they failed, they all faced death for treason against the Crown whereas the Fox Natin folkkks would trip over themselves trying to sell out each other to get the most lenient sentence for themselves).
As to Tahrir Square, it is funny that the Fox folkkks are so willing to use that as a “positive” reference when, IIRC, the protestors from about 2 years ago were widely derided by the righties (although it was mostly because of the “Moos-lims” getting mixed up in the protests).

Oh, I wonder if anyone posed the topic of same-sex marriage? If these “men” feel they don’t have any “legal rights in marriage,” why has there been so much hostility towards gay male couples who’ve been trying to, you know, get married? Maybe these “men” should consider they’re, um, on the wrong team in the first place and go find a nice GUY to settle down with. Then they AND their new husbands will be fully equal when it comes to “rights in marriage.” (Granted, I’m pretty sure that gay men are probably not desperate enough for marriage that they’d willingly marry any of these whiny “I don’t have any legal rights in marriage anymore” men. I just don’t think they’d be good catches; I don’t know why.)

Well, Chas, I don’t know you from the proverbial Adam, so I’m not going to click the link to hear what “you” came up with. But the biggest problem with “your” work is you don’t say where YOU got your original tape or how “pure” your tape is. A copy of a copy is going to have minor flaws that will distinguish the original master from any secondary versions.
The only version of the 911 tape I’d want to hear is the one that the jury will hear (or has heard), including any “cleaned-up” versions.

I’d certainly love it if someone could “leak” all the information about the health care plans enjoyed by these right-wingers, both employed by FoxNoise as well as the “guests” and then compare those to what the average American has (both with and without "Obamacare:).
Somehow, I’ve got a feeling that, if the info could get through to the FoxNoise sheeple (because it certainly wouldn’t make it on FoxNoise), there would be such a massive uprising against the right, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the French Revolution.

@doors: Well, Johnson was actually wrong in his comment in the first place. The South remained largely Democratic until 1980. In 1968, it didn’t really abandon the Democrats as much as vote “favorite son” (ie, George Wallace—who, although he ran for President on the “American Independent” ticket, in Alabama he remained a Democrat); also, there’s the fact that Nixon saw his “Southern Strategy” completely nullified by Wallace’s run. Nixon had planned on policies that would’ve largely minimized Johnson’s civil rights initiatives but Southerners, for the most part, didn’t really trust Nixon since it was HIS party that had spent the earlier part of the decade PROMOTING those very same civil rights initiatives.
Then, in 1972, you had the Nixon landslide where he won the whole of the “Old South” (i.e., the Confederacy), but that again had little to do with the “Southern Strategy” and more to do with the fact the Dems had nominated the very liberal George McGovern (interestingly, McGovern was no better liked by the Democratic establishment than Bill Clinton would be in 1992) and there were a few other significant in-house problems for the Dems that Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” really didn’t make much of an impact. And of course, there was the Watergate break-in but that didn’t really make much of an impact on the election itself (parts of the scandal had been made public weeks before the election but the real investigation and details wouldn’t become well-known until early 1973). Now, in 1968, the “Old South” was really split between Wallace and Nixon (Wallace took AL, AR, GA, LA and MS and one elector from NC while Nixon got FL, KY, SC, TN, and VA plus the majority of NC’s electoral vote; TX stayed in the Dem column) and in 1972, it went to Nixon all the way (of course, in both 1968 and 1972, a lot of the big union-heavy powerhouses like IL, IN, OH and WI as well as CA went to the GOP, so the “Southern Strategy” and its emphasis on attacking civil rights legislation didn’t seem to have the reverse effect in those states which had already been, at least nominally, supportive of civil rights).
In 1976, the “Southern Strategy” was wholly nullified as the (loathed by the Democratic establishment) Southern peanut farmer, Jimmy Carter, won the Dem nomination and then won ALL the “Old South,” except for Virginia. But, again, the union powerhouses of IL and IN went to the GOP (as did MI) while OH came back to the Dems.
But, in 1980, when racist-empathizer Ronald Reagan won the GOP nomination (remember, he launched his post-convention Pres campaign in Philadelphia, MS—the site of the murders of 3 civil rights workers—with a speech supporting “states’ rights”), Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” was finally launched into turning the South into a reliably GOP bloc (in Presidential elections, at any rate; it would take several more years before other offices in the South would turn to GOP control—many of them doing so as Southern conservaDems switched parties). From 1980 through 2012, Dems have won only 8 states of the “Old South” and with NO regularity or pattern. The Dems won 7 of them twice (GA in 1980 and 1992; AR, KY, LA, and TN in 1992 and 1996; and FL and VA in 2008 and 2012) and won NC only once (in 2008). Since 1980, the Dems have not won AL, MS or TX (TX is really the outlier since in the 9 Presidential elections from 1980 to 2012, a Texan—whether native or self-affiliated—has been involved in 6 of them; Bush the Elder in the 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992 elections and Bush the Dimwit in 2000 and 2004, and it’s a political rarity for a Presidential ticket to lose the votes of either of its candidates’ “home states”).
So, it really hasn’t been longer. Johnson just couldn’t foresee the other elements which would forestall turning over the South to the GOP for a decade and a half.

Ellen, you missed a dilly of a twit I mean, tweet, from Starnes. As posted at Wonkette*, “As for me and my house, we follow God’s law.” I think that should be more than enough to have Mr Starnes deported from the US since he ADMITS he doesn’t follow US LAW or the Constitution. (Granted, I’m not really sure where he could be deported . . . .)
I’d certainly love to go to Starnes’ house and make sure that he really IS obeying “God’s law.” After all, there are a whole lot of them. I wonder which day of the week he observes as the Sabbath—which God mandates as His day, that His people are to keep holy (mainly in the sense of “no working”). And then, of course, we’d need to ensure that his wife has successfully transitioned to menopause so that Toddy doesn’t need to worry about sex while she’s “unclean” (if she’s still dealing with her menstrual cycle, then I’m sure Todd’s being a good “God-fearing” husband and hiring a prostitute until Mrs Starnes’s period is done and she’s undergone her ritual cleansing). Oh, and I’d just love to see what he eats; no shellfish, pork or cheeseburgers for you, Todd, as that’s part of “God’s law.”
(Incidentally, I was just doing a quick check at Wikipedia to find out some information about Toddy, and he must be positively devastated. He doesn’t exist at Wiki. There are several links to articles that mention him, but as far as an article goes, nothing. Even Johnny “JazzHands” Morris is the subject of a Wiki article. And several of the articles that come up on Wiki in a Wiki search of “Todd Starnes” actually describe him as “author Todd Starnes” which is funny because checking on a couple of those credits, it turns out they’re FOOTNOTE references to comments he’s made while speaking on FoxNoise. I checked out 3 of those credits and they’re all the same. His name is only listed in the footnotes, crediting comments he’s made. Maybe that’s why he’s such a persimmon—no one thinks enough of him to give him a Wiki article, while his “friends” and “co-workers” have them.)

“He claimed that 10’s of millions of Catholics are frustrated about Pelosi’s views.” Someone needs to remind this “priest” of a couple of points.
First, the United States is NOT subject to Vatican policy or doctrine. He might want to remember that John F Kennedy basically had to promise that, as President, his first priority would be to US law, even when it contradicted his own religious teaching. It was THAT affirmation that helped assuage the fears of millions of Americans (who, at that time, were incredibly UNcomfortable with the whole notion of “Roman Catholicism”) and get Kennedy elected to the Presidency.
Second, Nancy Pelosi is—when all is said and done—just a member of the House of Representatives. She does NOT represent “millions” of people as a member of the House (there are 53 House members from California—given CA’s population of 38 million, she represents around 720,000 people in her district which is, incidentally, located ENTIRELY within the city of San Francisco, an area that probably doesn’t care too much about the abortion issue). As far as those Catholics who are “frustrated,” well, EFF’EM. You try being a fairly liberal/progressive, don’t-give-a-whit-about-religious-BS gay man in Alabama and see what REAL “frustration” is like. I’d be willing to bet that there are “10s of millions” of women, all across the country, who are “frustrated” by the asshat GOPer men who feel that they should have some say in how a woman deals with HER OWN BODY.
Third, IF YOU DON’T WANT AN ABORTION, YOU SORRY MISERABLE EXCUSE FOR A CHILD-MOLESTING COVERING-UP CULT APOLOGIST, DON’T GET ONE. But until you develop ovaries, fallopian tubes, a uterus and a vagina, your opinion is as valid as your asshole.

You don’t really think people could be “entertained” watching a bunch of grown men (mostly) driving around in their cars on an oval track for hours and hours on end, and yet…..every week, millions of “fans” go to the racetracks and pull up in front of their TV sets (and, there are whole cable channels devoted to auto racing) and watch the cars go zooming by. And, if you ask these people the REAL reason, they’ll admit they’re hoping for a crash.
And then, there’s football, and baseball, and basketball, and hockey, and soccer. Oh, and “professional” wrestling. And then, there’s the hardcore groups devoted to platform diving and weightlifting and speed skating and all the rest of the Olympic sports that clutter up the TV schedule for weeks at a time.
Oh, and golf. PLEASE, I wish Mister Allblow would explain why people waste their time watching this “sport” which is only moderately below pro bowling in terms of America’s bizarre fascination with the truly boring.

What he really needs to remember about the “animals, dolphins and whales” is that—for the most part—these have all been born; none of them are fetal or embryonic versions, still dependent on its mother.
As to the “fetal pain,” might I suppose that Huckleberry is fully supportive of absolute bans on infant circumcision? If a fetus “feels pain,” then what does that say to the (typically right-wing, religious-based conservative) opinion that the OBSERVED pain of infant males is “minimal” or even “inconsequential?”

And, of course, there was her trotting out the very pregnant (and very unmarried) Bristol at the RNC in 2008. Palin doesn’t mind exploiting her kids when it suits her purposes, so any mocking can be laid squarely at the Quitta from Wasilla’s feet.
(And as for “mocking,” what AAP said hardly qualifies as “mocking”—except to the fans of the Quitta whose own vocabulary skills are little better than their idol’s. AAP pointed out a fact about the “flat tax” that the Quitta herself didn’t actually seem to know.)

Oh. By the by, Aidan. Why do you think it was necessary for that “‘bright-as-a-button’ lady” to DISTORT a professor’s comment in order to make her point? When you have to resort to DECEPTION to make your point, you lose any claims at being “bright-as-a-button.” And since Megyn also professes to be a “devout Christian,” she should know the Church’s teachings on LYING and DECEPTION. We will, of course, ignore the Bible’s own numerous tales wherein lies and deception are rewarded even though “thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” is one of the BIG TEN laws. And even the Book of Proverbs has this: “There are six things that the LORD strongly dislikes, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” (Prov 6:16-19)
I guess liars and deceivers appreciate their own kind, Aidan.

@ Scott: And African-Americans comprise a little over 13% of the total population, but comprise nearly 40% of those incarcerated. So your point is what? The overall poverty rate is about 15%, but for African-Americans, it’s over 27%. Again, your point is what? The overall unemployment rate is 7.6% but for African-Americans, it’s 13.5%. So, once again, your point is what? The average life expectancy in the US is 75.6 for males, 80.6 for females, but for African-Americans, the life expectancy rates are 70.6 and 77.2, respectively (somewhat oddly, African-Americans, both male and female, who live to age 85 have life expectancies that exceed both the national average and the average for whites). And again, your point is what? The national average for children living in single-parent homes is 35% but for African-American children, it’s 67% (for whites, it’s only 25% and for multi-racial, it’s 42%). So, again, your point is what?
Maybe the reason for so many African-American women having abortions could have something to do with some of the above statistics. There’s a very good chance that an African-American woman (especially a teenager) is going to have very little support to raise a child—especially one who wasn’t planned or who isn’t wanted—from either her own family or the government (and with the GOPers, it ain’t gonna get any better—although they’re going to do their best to make sure the “slut” has to have that baby).
Save your “concerns” over the racial disparity. I’d be willing to bet money you (and the rest of your ilk) who are so “concerned” at the “death of all those little Black babies” wouldn’t be quite so concerned if all those “little Black babies” HAD been born and ended up requiring welfare. If you (and the rest of your ilk) REALLY want to show your concerns, support groups like Planned Parenthood which, for a very high percentage of INNER-CITY (ie, “Black” and “Latino”) youths, including girls, get birth control and birth control advice at little to no cost. But no. It’s far better to try to convince African-Americans that you (and your mostly lily-white ilk) “care” about the “racial genocide” of Black babies—even though most of your ilk would cross the street rather than run the risk of passing within 10 feet of a real-live Black adult man (or wait for the next elevator car because of that adult Black man who’s either already in the car or is getting in at the same time you do). It’s so funny to me that so many of these “concerned” conservatives want to claim a “racial genocide” but then turn around and say a Black teenager without a gun who’s killed by some guy with a Dirty Harry fetish is the REAL criminal or who’ll claim that a bunch of “heavily-armed scary Black men” intimidated them from voting (when it was really just two Black men carrying nothing more than a nightstick standing outside a polling place and these “voters” didn’t live in the area).
Visitor, if that “librul media” did take the time to debunk her lies, there’d be absolutely no time left to do anything else. (Didn’t the media essentially throw up its collective hands last year during the debates over trying to fact-check the GOP candidates—and that was the actual PRESIDENTIAL debates last fall, not the GOP primary debates?)
