Bill O’Reilly didn’t need to ask an actual liberal why the left hates Fox News. He and conservative Charles Krauthhammer have it all figured out for us. Hint: Fox is so great, liberals are so terrible and the 2016 election. Not mentioned? The continuing revelations about O’Reilly’s fabrications.
In his Talking Points commentary, O’Reilly cited a new Quinnipiac poll showing Fox is the most trusted news source. He didn’t mention, of course, that Fox is also the least trusted. How can that be? Partisanship. Conservatives love Fox while everyone else’s vote gets diffused. As Dylan Byers explained, “Yes, more respondents said they trusted Fox News than another network, but the total number -- 29 percent—pales in comparison to the combined total of mainstream networks like CNN and the broadcast channels.”
O’Reilly took a weird detour in his victory lap to attack David Axelrod for coming on The Factor to promote his book. “Then to show his gratitude, Axelrod begins trashing Fox News, saying we are not a real news organization,” O’Reilly continued.
“That was a mistake,” O’Reilly warned. “Being two-faced? Not a legacy builder, Dave. Perhaps he just made a verbal mistake. If so, we are ready to accept Mr. Axelrod’s apology.”
Which sounded kind of like a threat to me.
“The fact is that Fox News is now a deep threat to the progressive movement and the far left despises us, so they are in full attack mode, desperately trying to marginalize FNC,” O’Reilly said.
O’Reilly never mentioned what the “full attack mode” is, exactly. I doubt he meant Axelrod’s comments. More likely he meant the continuing drips of discrediting information about his truthfulness and integrity. Some of the latest have come from CNN, former Fox colleagues, his biographer, other former news colleagues and even two orders of nuns. Media Matters has been hammering O’Reilly especially hard.
So what a coincidence that O’Reilly focused much of his opprobrium on Media Matters – without mentioning a word about why he might have an axe to grind.
O’Reilly noted that John Podesta recently left the White House to work for Hillary Clinton. O’Reilly called Podesta a “long time political mercenary” with a “history of associations, including one with the Media Matters organization, the chief attack vehicle for the left.”
O’Reilly went on to suggest that some of the hatred for O’Reilly, I mean Fox is because he’s such a threat to Hillary Clinton’s election.
There is no question that powerful people in Washington are using websites to smear political opponents. …Hit pieces fly around in cyberspace and then find their way to the mainstream media which gleefully promote the defamation for blatantly ideological reasons.
According to O’Reilly, the economic struggles of CNN and MSNBC also make them “hungry to participate in the attack process.”
“So hating Fox News is about competition, power and money at the highest levels,” O’Reilly ominously declared. “We dominate the prime time news cycle. Not good news for progressive politicians, the liberal media and crazed zealots on both sides. Therefore, meetings are held, strategies devised, political assassins hired. Is there any doubt for whom they are gunning?”
Later, in a discussion with Fox’s Charles Krauthammer that immediately followed O’Reilly’s commentary, he said, “But Podesta and the Hillary Clinton people know that they’ve got to try and marginalize FNC in some way and, therefore, you can see the cabal they’re putting together.”
O’Reilly also boasted:
Here, we’ve been very, very cognizant of giving (Obama’s) side of the story. But lately, there isn’t a side of the story against terrorism. There’s no side of the story. He’s packed it in and the terrorists are running wild. So I can’t give him his side of the story ‘cause there isn’t (one) there. But before we tried to.
So O’Reilly alleges a left-wing cabal without providing evidence, he makes a veiled threat to David Axelrod for not appreciating Fox enough, he takes some gratuitous swipes at President Obama – and still hasn’t answered the many questions that have arisen about his truthfulness.
THAT – and much, much more – is why the left hates Fox, Bill.
Watch it below, from the March 9 The O’Reilly Factor. I'm also including an embed of the entire Outfoxed documentary, in case anyone needs a refresher.
YOU ARE THE BIGGEST “BORN ON THIRD BASE BUT THINK YOU HIT A TRIPLE” LOUDMOUTH ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!
’Nuff said.
O’Reilly’s been caught lying in his past jobs, during interviews with conservatives, on his failed radio show, and even lied to his grandmother, on his own television show, about something that was later found to be another Lie.
And he’s the #1 show on Fiction NC. What does that say about the viewers who seem to worship this proven liar?
_______
O’Reilly said “now?” Really? He’s just come to this realization? FoxNoise has been a “deep threat” since it went on the air. And the “progressive movement and the far left” has despised FoxNoise since its debut.
There’s no “now” there, Billdo. You and your ilk have been a “deep threat” since the beginning. (The fact that you people prey on the simple-minded is just that much more despicable—especially when you refuse to accept responsibility for the evils you’ve caused. And I’m calling you out specifically, Billdo. Or does the name “Dr Tiller” mean nothing to you? His blood is on your hands, Lady Macbeth. His blood is on your hands.)
Bwaaah! Axelrod didn’t say anything that isn’t true – FOX “news” is NOT a real news organization. And I really think that BOR knows that. He and FOX “news” are more interested in pushing a conservative/traditional POV than they are in giving the folks ALL the facts and real journalism without an agenda.
BOR should know that he isn’t fooling anyone (except, perhaps, the most stupid of his sheeple) with this “weird detour” of his. The real reason for this segment, the attempt at misdirection and his assault on Axelrod/the rest of the media (for their recents discussions about "FOX “news” not being a real news organization") isn’t because of the things he listed off last night. It’s because he knows damn well that these discussions about FOX “news” were being had with regards to HIS own lies. His past falsehoods/deliberate embellishments along with his employer refusing to hold him responsible for his lies are the reasons why people are saying things like, “what do you expect? FOX News doesn’t do real journalism and its employees frequently tell lies.” BOR is the impetus for the media’s latest discussions about FOX “news” yet BOR doesn’t have the guts to acknowledge it to his viewers.
Remove the “Dave” & the “Axelrod” and insert Bill & O’Reilly. Once that is done, we have a more accurate statement. BOR is the one with a ruined legacy. His credibility and integrity are shot. I don’t believe for a moment that BOR simply made “verbal mistakes” – my take is that he wanted the folks and his colleagues to think that he really WAS on the doorstep when the JFK/Oswald guy shot himself, etc. He needs to explain to us himself (and not through some lame-ass PR statement) why he made these claims. And then he needs to apologize to the folks and to his fellow news colleagues.
But I don’t think he’s capable of admitting that he did wrong or apologizing. His pride and ego won’t allow it. Until he does, he’s just a coward bogusly pointing fingers at others and crying “liberal media”. The problem doesn’t lie with the “liberal media” – the problem lies within BOR himself.
That’s because Fox is not news but rather a propaganda arm for the GOP.
So Bill, we don’t give a shit what you actually do, just be honest about what you are doing and we will leave you alone.
And stop calling yourself a fair and balanced news organization and start calling yourself what you really are…
What spews out of Billy’s mouth is damage control from the suits. They are trying to spin this story about Billy’s lies by blaming the left. A tactic they use when the brand, aka Fox, is at risk due to negative press.
The average age of their audience is 60 and older. This demographic tends to be more trustworthy than younger viewers. The masses can reach this demo by explaining in full detail of how these frauds operate behind-the-scenes.
These suits are ruthless and will do anything to protect their brand.
