Fox News Was For Visiting Cuba Before It Was Against It

Posted by Ellen · April 09, 2013 11:17 AM · 3 reactions

It turns out Fox News' indignation at Beyoncé’s and Jay-Z’s trip to Cuba is a tad selective. Media Matters found that not so long ago, Fox was singing a very different tune.

O’Reilly Uses Thatcher’s Death To Bash Obama

Posted by Ellen · April 09, 2013 1:04 AM · 15 reactions

Remember how Fox used Hugo Chavez’ death to gratuitously suggest that he was similar to President Obama? Tonight, “no spin zone” Bill O’Reilly used Margaret Thatcher’s death to dubiously report that she didn’t approve of Obama.  O’Reilly forgot to point out that Thatcher was suffering from dementia the past 12 years. It’s quite unlikely she approved or disapproved of President Obama at all.

Megyn Kelly And Fox News Sued For Defamation Of Disabled Firefighter

Posted by Ellen · April 08, 2013 8:43 PM · 9 reactions

Megyn Kelly's sneering and jeering about a disabled Milwaukee, Wisconsin firefighter who runs marathons has gotten her and her network in a wee bit of trouble. In 2011, Kelly aired a segment in which she and one attorney guest all but demanded that firefighter Aaron Marjala's disability payments be rescinded as they made no bones about portraying him as a faker. Fox Nation's Racist Attacks On Donna Brazile For Questioning Margaret Thatcher's Legacy

Posted by Ellen · April 08, 2013 6:11 PM · 8 reactions

Democrat Donna Brazile had the nerve to question the legacy of Margaret Thatcher today and, as a result, is now being demonized on Fox Nation. Never mind that "civil," "tolerant" Fox Nation's own readers erupted in the most vile and hateful comments in the wake of his death. Brazile merely asked, in a Tweet, "Okay, what did the #ironlady do to advance Great Britain and the world? Did she leave lasting footprints for women in politics? #justsayin." Not only did Fox Nation call that "trashing" Thatcher's legacy in their headline, their "civil," "tolerant" readers used the occasion to make a nauseating assortment of racist attacks that no moderator has either noticed or cares about.

Megyn Kelly Uses "Attacks" On Rick Warren To Attack "Some" Gays?

Posted by Priscilla · April 08, 2013 4:10 PM · 4 reactions

According to certain right wing haters (I'm looking at you, Michelle Malkin) who spend time perusing liberal blogs to cherry pick hateful comments, a bunch of nasty gay people are saying nasty things about Rick Warren. A number of the featured tweets suggest a link between Warren's anti-gay beliefs and the recent suicide of his son who was described, by Warren, as suffering from depression. Not surprisingly, alleged news host Megyn Kelly, who never wastes an opportunity to present a Christian right wing "outrage," reported on these "vicious attacks." So was it a coincidence that one of her guests (the other being official Fox priest Jonathan Morris) was Tony Perkins, head of the SPLC designated homophobic hate group, The Family Research Council. Kelly just couldn't understand the hateful commentary. I guess she's never seen what's on Fox Nation!

On Huckabee: Larry Gatlin Debuts Anti-Obama Song, "The Beatings Will Continue"

Posted by Priscilla · April 08, 2013 12:51 PM · 5 reactions

Remember when the Dixie Chicks got pulled from country stations after they criticized Pres. Bush? Country folk were "shocked" that they "attacked" Pres. Bush. Flash forward to 2013 and country star (?!) Larry Gatlin is attacking President Obama who, while not identified, seems to be the person doing the "beatings" in Gatlin's new song, "The Beatings Will Continue." But rather than face a firestorm of criticism for his lack of patriotism, Gatlin, who has previously attacked the president in a Fox News.com article, got to debut his song on Mike Huckabee's program. Not only did Huck praise the song, but he even accompanied Gatlin. Inquiring minds want to know if "The Beatings Will Continue" will be the new Tea Party anthem?!

Fox Attacks Beyoncé’s And Jay-Z’s Trip To Cuba

Posted by Ellen · April 08, 2013 10:41 AM · 16 reactions

The Fox News Vacation Police have a new suspect – or pair of suspects, to be exact. Putting aside their ongoing investigations into the Obama and Biden families’ vacations (temporarily, I’m sure), the “fair and balanced” network joined Republican Congressional members in examining the suspicious evidence behind Beyoncé’s and Jay-Z’s trip to Cuba on their fifth wedding anniversary. And, in a neat twofer, they suggested the Obama administration may have had a hand in the nefarious deed of granting the couple an undeserved visa.

Dr. Ben Carson Finally Wises Up And Apologizes

Posted by Ellen · April 07, 2013 11:35 PM · 43 reactions

Despite Sean Hannity’s racial theatrics designed to cast himself as a white, conservative Martin Luther King (and pay no attention to how he race baits against black liberals) crusading on behalf of the racially oppressed, acclaimed pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Benjamin Carson, it appears that Carson has finally and unequivocally apologized for his offensive comments likening same-sex marriage to pedophilia and bestiality.

Fox News Mailbag - 4/7/13 Edition

Posted by Ellen · April 07, 2013 3:37 PM · 5 reactions

The News Hounds' mailbox has been deluged with mail for Fox News. So much so that I can barely keep up with posting them. But it's one of my favorite features at News Hounds. Since I don't have the time (or inclination) to respond to all of them and let them know they've reached the wrong party, I consider this a public service. So, attention, Fox News: you've got mail! PS, Fox viewers don't seem so pleased with Shepard Smith these days.

Bill O'Reilly Says Pro-Life Winning Cuz Abortion Is Sinning!

Posted by Priscilla · April 07, 2013 12:35 PM · 4 reactions

Sure as the tides go in, the tides go out, Bill O'Reilly can be reliably counted upon to articulate the talking points of the anti-abortion movement. But in his Thursday night's "Talking Points" segment, in addition to staying with the standard anti-abortion script, he also, as Sen. Al Franken used to say, pulled a fact straight of his ass. Moving on and eliminating the image of O'Reilly's posterior. After getting some right wing blowback about his "thump the bible" comments, O'Reilly used his "no spin zone" to do some fancy, rhetorical spinning about how he wasn't really being pejorative to a major American religious group who are, presumably, big Fox fans. In the process, he tried to advise them with his view of what constitutes good argument on two "intense issues" in the culture war, abortion and gay marriage, which traditionalists see as destructive. And like any of O'Reilly's arguments regarding abortion, it vividly illustrated his contempt for women who just don't understand that if they have an abortion, they're going to hell!
