It turns out Fox News' indignation at Beyoncé’s and Jay-Z’s trip to Cuba is a tad selective. Media Matters found that not so long ago, Fox was singing a very different tune.
You may recall that I recently posted about Fox & Friends Weekend jumping on board Republican condemnation and demands for an investigation into how and why Beyoncé and Jay-Z were granted visas into Cuba. Media Matters noted that hosts on at least two other Fox shows donned their Vacation Police Officer badges and adjudged the suspects guilty regardless.
But the real crime here may be journalistic hypocrisy. Because Media Matters found at least two articles on FoxNews.com that promoted traveling to Cuba.
A few years ago, Fox's website detailed "a few points to keep in mind if you're considering traveling to Cuba legally." In an article reporting on President Obama's reinstating the "people-to-people" exchange, FoxNews.com laid out helpful hints to readers on how to take advantage of the program, concluding, "there's no better time to book a trip."
In 2012, after Obama strengthened the requirements necessary to obtain the "people-to-people" license, Fox News Latino advised readers on how to plan their Cuba trip:
(as long as it was good, white, ’merkans visiting it)
“. . . Before It Was Against It”
(being visited by two Obama-supporting knee-grows)
Context always helps. :)
