As part of its "All-American New Year" last night, Fox News' Phil Keating approached a drunk celebrant. "Well, hello there, tall drink of water," he said to a young woman, "Say something to the nation. Her response is definitely not safe for work. Nor for the "family show" Keating claimed to be part of.

From Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman to “white Santa" – with racial attacks on Oprah Winfrey and many others sprinkled throughout - 2013 stands out as a year of race baiting extraordinaire for Fox News. We review this year of Fox News playing to the worst in its audience.

There is a bible verse in which Jesus tells his followers that when the pray they should "go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret." But this advice is not heeded by Fox's Eric Bolling who, in not wasting an opportunity to remind us of his devout Catholicism, is more like the "hypocrites" who "love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others." For Bolling, his public prayer persona is all part of his mission, from God and Roger Ailes to earn his Christian soldier stars by smiting atheists at every turn. Devout Catholic Bolling, who has no problem maligning President Obama and Muslims, also constantly reminds us that he really hates "mean" atheists. Last week, Bolling must have earned more time out of Purgatory with his good, Christian attacks on atheists who, contrary to Bolling's good Christian paranoia, aren't, contrary to the Fox News propaganda meme, trying to destroy Christian tradition. 

On the December 21st Cashin’ In, the panel discussed whether the “media love affair” with President Obama is over and good for taxpayers. Near the end of the discussion, Jonathan Hoenig summed up what he thinks should be the Republican slogan for 2014 and beyond.

Last week, I posted about how Fox News used Duck Dynasty's Willie Robertson (son of Phil Robertson) for a special F.U. to gays and liberals on Christmas Eve. Apparently, Fox loved its maliciousness so much, the network is doing it again for New Year's Eve.

A white teen in Texas has been arrested and charged with a hate crime for playing the knockout game against a black person. In addition to the crime itself, the teen made the mistake of boasting about it in a bar and showing a video of it to an undercover policeman. Cue up Fox News’ racial outrage. The “fair and balanced” network did its best to turn this story into one about white people’s racial injustice at the hands of the (black) Obama administration.

The Family Research Council has been designated, by the Southern Poverty Law Center, as a "hate group" because of its defamation of and lies about gays which is done under the guise of  Christian "family values." But this virulent homophobia is no problem for Fox News which has provided validation and defense of the FRC and its head, Tony Perkins, who is always warmly embraced on Fox shows where he gets to spread the hate that his group specializes in. Such was the case on last Friday's Kelly Files when Perkins was interviewed by Shannon Bream who, along with Todd Starnes, is one of Fox's prime conduits for anti-gay discrimination. Perkins lived up to his reputation as a hate group head in his condemnation of those nasty gay folks who dared to impugn the true biblical Christianity of Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson who has been restored to his A&E show, praise Jesus and Fox News!

This past week of Fox News outrageousness has been dominated by Phil Robertson and Duck Dynasty. There were some outrageous comments on other subjects but I’m going to stick with one theme this time.

For the Christian right, who see their world rapidly changing, the "culture" war has taken on an almost apocalyptic fervor. For Fox News, the constant outcry of these aggrieved Christian is given pride of place in the writings and TV commentary of Todd Starnes, a devout southern fried evangelical Christian who has become Fox's main mouthpiece for homophobia and general fear and loathing of blacks, Muslims, and "militant" gays. Todd "Toddles" Starnes is on a mission from God to smite the forces of the godless who have taken over American culture especially in the military. In the quest to further the cause of the aggrieved Christian, so beloved by Fox News, there is no unsubstantiated anecdote or lie that Starnes  can ignore. So where better for Toddles to pontificate about 2013's top culture war stories about aggrieved Christians than on Fox & Friends, Fox's special morning show for aggrieved Christians! 

Not surprisingly, Fox News has gotten to work to do its best to attack the detailed and credible report published yesterday by the New York Times that destroyed much of the Republican/Fox News conspiracy theory about Benghazi. Today, on Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace helped the effort along.
