The Family Research Council has been designated, by the Southern Poverty Law Center, as a "hate group" because of its defamation of and lies about gays which is done under the guise of Christian "family values." But this virulent homophobia is no problem for Fox News which has provided validation and defense of the FRC and its head, Tony Perkins, who is always warmly embraced on Fox shows where he gets to spread the hate that his group specializes in. Such was the case on last Friday's Kelly Files when Perkins was interviewed by Shannon Bream who, along with Todd Starnes, is one of Fox's prime conduits for anti-gay discrimination. Perkins lived up to his reputation as a hate group head in his condemnation of those nasty gay folks who dared to impugn the true biblical Christianity of Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson who has been restored to his A&E show, praise Jesus and Fox News!
Bream "broke" the news that the Robertson patriarch (some real old time, misogynist religion in that term) and his clan have been reinstated on A&E. Trace Gallagher provided more information and read a statement from the network. Bream then tossed to Tony Perkins who immediately got into the patented aggrieved Christian victimhood mode with his comment that the reinstatement is "good news for Christians out there who feel that they have to suppress their faith, their belief in the bible and its truth as it pertains to morality." (In, other words, God hates fags!). He claimed that this show is an in-your-face to "cultural bullies" who will have to back down. (Hmmm, were the "million moms" who organized a boycott of JC Penny, because it used the openly gay Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson, "cultural bullies?")
Bream, a graduate of the fundamentalist Liberty University, reinforced the Fox persecuted Christian meme as well as the recent meme that it's the gays are intolerant with her comment that for the past few years, "there has been a tension between those who, because of their religious convictions, believe in traditional marriage, they oppose homosexuality and the freedom to either to either say that or not say that, where does the line on tolerance end, does it only work in one direction..." She described the Duck Dynasty flap as a "tipping point" in the cultural conversation.
Perkins spoke of "lessons" to be learned from the "cultural elite, A&E and those types that those folks in the red states are not just consumers of their products, but these are people who believe very deeply with moral truths." (homophobia is a "truth?") He said that because these people are Christians "who want to live out their faith," they're not going to change their beliefs. He added that there are lessons to be learned from conservative Christians and then launched into his attack on the gay advocacy group GLAAD which he accused of wanting to "silence those with whom they disagree." He urged Christians to "stand up for what we believe in, lovingly, but eventually we see these advocates, these bullies like GLAAD having to back down."
Meanwhile, in the real world, big money Christian groups are still trying to prevent gays from having the right to marry and women from having the right to terminate a pregnancy. Christian groups are trying to reestablish prayer in public school and the teaching of creationism. Christian groups use the bogus war on Christmas to shame those who say "happy holidays" rather than merry Christmas." Christian groups are attempting to proselytize in the military. So remind me who are the victims and who is doing the bullying?! But Christians need not fear because in the midst of all their travails, Fox News has their back!
God, they’re like a forum or Facebook troll that keeps a blog just to libel their critics, then changes their story every time someone calls them on their continuity error. Except not even that charming, because there’s kind of a comedy bad guy appeal to trolls, while the FRC is so boringly by the numbers that even the SPLC thinks they’re “cut-paste hatred.”
We are very familiar with this ignorant clown. Luckily, he does not have name or face recognition, unlike the Fox “News” clowns like that dyed hair bimbette, Bream.
