Remember when Fox portrayed President Obama as a socialist who hates the rich? Well, with the news that President and Mrs. Obama went to a high-end restaurant on New Year’s, suddenly he’s a hateful elitist.
In case you missed it, the president and first lady dined at a high-end restaurant on New Year’s. FoxNews.com ran a headline blaring, “Obamas eat at restaurant charging up to $500G for membership.” The “fair and balanced” news site forgot to mention that the Obamas are not members and that the dinner was also a celebration of Michelle Obama’s upcoming birthday.
Fox Nation ran a similar headline: “Obamas Dine At Restaurant Charging $500,000 For Membership.” Ditto no mention of membership or birthday. Instead, the post suggested the Obamas had shelled out hundreds of thous for the meal: “As Time’s Zeke Miller pointed out, membership at the restaurant can set you back $500,000.”
For some unstated snark, Fox Nation included this photo hinting the Obamas are laughing at the rest of us while they enjoy their 500-grand chow at your expense. (Screen grab edited for size)
Or not. Another thing Fox forgot to mention is that Obama paid for this celebration himself.
Also, if you click through to the article the post links to, it reveals, at the end, that the Obamas bought a price-fixe dinner that was probably $295, not including wine.
Pricey, yes. But nowhere near the $500,000 Fox suggested was spent. And what’s the big deal about Obama and his wife celebrating with a nice New Year/birthday meal? I don’t remember Fox concern trolling about the Bush restaurant meals, do you?
Even worse, this whole “extravagance” thing flies in the face of the socialist, Marxist, class-warfare Obama meme Fox has been force feeding us forever:
- “He is a European socialist. He is cut from the same cloth as the European socialists are.” Hannity & Colmes, July, 2008.
- “Obama Admits He’s A Socialist.” Fox Nation headline, May, 2013.
- Brian Kilmeade: Are people embarrassed to be rich now, to have a nice car and a beautiful house?”
Robin Leach: “In America, yes. Around the rest of the world, no.” Fox & Friends, October, 2013
- “PRES WANTS EUROPEAN STYLE SOCIAL DEMOCRACY BUT WON’T ADMIT IT,” lower-third banner, America Live, February, 2013.
When the facts don’t match Fox News’ anti-Obama narrative, Fox just changes the attack.
