Richard Dreyfuss Calls Donald Trump ‘An Idiot’ Who ‘Lacks Simple, Common Decency’

Actor Richard Dreyfuss visited Fox News Tuesday and leveled some straight talk about Donald Trump and his values (or lack thereof) at host Neil Cavuto.

The discussion started off with Dreyfuss and Cavuto talking about the budget and what we, as a country, should spend money on. But the discussion soon veered off into one about Trump.

It started when Dreyfuss called Trump “an idiot” and added, “I think that Donald Trump is not the one to be trusted about any of the details.”

“He’s president of the United States,” Cavuto replied. “That’s kind of counterproductive to call him an idiot.”

“No, it’s this,” Dreyfuss said. “Donald Trump, regardless of his party, lacks simple common decency, and he should not be in the presidency.” Dreyfuss was specifically referring to the way Trump treated his Republican rivals during the campaign.

Cavuto put up a mild defense of Trump throughout. “It’s all over now. He won, you might not like the result but he is.”

“That’s like saying that the Reichstag fire is over,” Dreyfuss shot back.

“Cut it out. Now, don’t do that. That’s a little unfair,” Cavuto responded.

Dreyfuss went on to say that health care is “a right and not a privilege.” When asked if he’d be willing to “pay for that,” he answered, “Of course, because we talk about taxes always as if they’re such a negative thing, and sometimes there is a gesture of support of sharing that taxes are a gesture that says we are a community.”

And speaking of paying for it, Dreyfuss also said, “America will have to pay for this [presidency] and pay for it in many different ways.”

Watch it below, from the March 28, 2017 Your World.

Ellen, I think Trump views George W Bush as a failure as President. As the whole population of planet Earth should. I see Trump as a con man. Con men abhor violence.

I hope David Lindsay is right about Trump not being a hawk. He has been surrounding himself with hawks, though, and war mongering about North Korea and now sending increased troops to the Middle East.

I would not be surprised if there’s a terror attack – from incompetence if nothing else. He’s ticked off the Yemenis with his botched raid and tried to block them and other Muslims with Muslims bans 1.0 and 2.0. And he has not staffed out a ton of administration positions.

However, given that his family and real estate jewels are in NYC (not sure which mean more to him), I suspect that will remain well protected. LA and San Francisco? I hope they have good local protection.

“He’s president of the United States,” Cavuto replied. “That’s kind of counterproductive to call him an idiot.”

That’s rich coming from Craputo, who once called the then-Senator and Democratic Candidate Obama a “dork”:

I wonder if Kneel thought it was “counterproductive” when his fellow Fauxites called Obama an idiot — or worse?

But, silly me; I keep forgetting: IOKIYAAR

Richard S, I don’t see Trump as a hawk. W was a hawk. A stupid and inconsiderate one to boot. W skipped out on service in Vietnam but thought it was fine and dandy for the US to prosecute that war. Without a scintilla of self awareness. Trump skipped his duty to Vietnam but I’ve never heard him express opinions that Vietnam was worth pursuing. Not like W.

Hell, W was a deserter from the stateside National Guard by any definition of the word. He was trained to fly an obsolete aircraft for the purpose of avoiding Vietnam. He didn’t even fulfill that obligation.

Trump spoke a lot of hawk during the campaign. But Trump also made a lot of other campaign promises that don’t appear anywhere near fruition. They’re all DOA. Trump is full of beans. I don’t think he is a hawk.

From Joseph West’s comment:

“And, in all honesty, I don’t see him making it that far before the US is needlessly put into a war that didn’t need to happen.”

How right you are Joseph. I’m willing to bet the house that Adolf Twitler and his new pal The Boy Who Cried ‘NUKE!’ (i.e. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu) are probably PLOTTING A MASSIVELY STAGED “terrorist attack” on a major America city RIGHT THIS INSTANT. Los Angeles and Chicago are undoubtedly at the top of the “hit list” — these American cities are #2 and #3 respectively in terms of size — remember, Washington DC and New York City (the capital and the largest city in America respectively) were ALREADY HIT on 9/11/01.

David, the problem is that it took Dubya nearly two YEARS before he got us all involved in the Iraq debacle.

As you’ve noted, Chump’s only been in office about 70 days and he’s done far more damage than Dubya did in the two years leading up to Iraq.

Until Chump hits the 2 year, 2 month mark of his occupation of the White House, Chump IS the worst _____ we’ve ever had. (I refuse to call the Orange Julius Caesar wannabe “president,” so fill in the blank however you want. Pretty much anything will fit the blank.)

And, in all honesty, I don’t see him making it that far before the US is needlessly put into a war that didn’t need to happen.

Dreyfuss is right on – 45 is an idiot. He’s a fool, a simpleminded petulant immature bully without a shred of decency or empathy.

I’ve never had a close encounter with a UFO, but I’d love to see one take Trump away and not bring him back. Or a great white eats him. Either one works for me.

M Maestri, I know it’s only 70 days into Trumpegeddon but George W. Bush is still the Worst President Evaaah!!! As long as Trump doesn’t lie the country into a needless war and send young American boys to die by the thousands into that war, George W Bush will remain the Worst President Ever.

I know that W sees Trump as a President who can make him look good, but Bush is still the bottom of the barrel.

Michael Maestri-

Sure, you can be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and wasting hundreds of billions of dollars, but God forbid someone say something mean about you. To call your comment ridiculous is paying you a compliment.

Dreyfuss is great.

Michael, as if FoxNoise or Chump has never spoken about people in “hyper personally mean” ways.

Puh-leeze.

And, if Chump was watching the show, I’ll be willing to bet that Dreyfuss will be in for some nasty talk from the Orange Doodyhead via Twitter. (If he wasn’t watching, I’m sure someone in his group of toadies will be sure to bring it to Chump’s attention.)

i love dreyfuss in films – but i’ve heard him speak about Bush in the same hyper personally mean way as he does about Trump – it discredits Dreyfuss hugely -
