On Tuesday night, Kelly’s brand of “straight news anchor” was on full display in a discussion she held about one of her (few) favorite people of color, outspoken Islam-hater, Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Last night, Kelly followed up by helping suggest that her Muslim guest “share(s) an ideology with Al Qaeda and ISIS.”
On Tuesday night, the polite treatment “straight news anchor” Kelly gave Rich Lizardo, whose group invited Ali to Yale, was in stark contrast to her rude, bullying and dismissive treatment of Muslim guest Harris Zafar.
Zafar did seem to contradict himself on whether he approved or disapproved of Yale’s invitation to Ali. But rather than just challenge him or try to elicit what he really thinks – as a truly impartial host would – Kelly started shouting at him and all but called him a liar.
Last night, Kelly used that exchange to paint Zafar as some kind of extremist. She was helped in that effort by guest Andrew McCarthy, an Islamophobe if ever there was one. Kelly deliberately gave him cred by introducing him as a “former federal prosecutor, author and contributing editor to the National Review. This is a man who used to put terrorists in jail for a living.”
McCarthy got right to suggesting that Zafar is some kind of Islamic wolf in moderate sheep’s clothing. Referring to the excerpt played of Zafar seeming to contradict himself, McCarthy said, “This is what they do …They counsel that looking the infidel in the eye and practicing deception is not only authorized, it’s recommended.”
“They dare you to call them on things,” McCarthy continued, “knowing that they have created an atmosphere of intimidation which, if you do call them on it, you’re an Islamophobe, you get dragged into court, you have to pay onerous legal expenses, you get barred from the media, you get barred from the campus. This is what the game is.”
Well, if you ask me, the only one being intimidated in this scenario is Zafar. First, Kelly failed to let him explain himself, then she accused him of being dishonest because he didn’t. Now, she suggested Zafar had just revealed his true, extremist views. Oh, and she did it by presenting herself as some kind of champion of women:
Harris, I was surprised at. Because he’s come on the show and he has said much more reasonable things in the past.
...This is a man, Harris Zafar, coming on the program. He didn’t have to undergo (what Ali did). And he wants to shut her up! (Kelly’s voice rose in hammy indignation) Why can’t she talk about it? Why are so many in the Muslim faith trying to shut up Ayaan Hirsi Ali who, at a minimum, earned the right to criticize those who did this to her and the religion in whose name they did it?
According to McCarthy, it’s all part of some grand Muslim plot designed to work Islamic extremism into the fabric of American life:
By feigning moderation, they have a great fundraising operation and they’re making real progress on the Sharia implementation agenda which is the thing, by the way, that unites the Muslim Brotherhood ideology with all these other groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda and the other jihadist organziations. It’s a common ideology. They have differences about tactics but their ideology is common. And they can’t afford to let anybody realize that because if people realized that the mainstream or the Islamic groups that are mostly identified as Islamic groups in the United States, actually share an ideology with Al Qaeda and ISIS, they’re done.
…If I was a Muslim and I took the position that I want the United States Constitution supplanted by Sharia law, but I’m not willing to blow up a bridge to make that happen? I’m a moderate!
Kelly laughed appreciatively. “Andy McCarthy, always good to see you!” she said.
Can you think of anyone else who pretends to be a moderate while allying with extremists? Hint: She calls herself a "straight news anchor."
Watch both discussions below. And do check out how Kelly throws in a clip of President Obama saying ISIS is not Islam as she works to signal that it is.
