Fox News Romney-Fest

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on December 17, 2011 · Flag

I’ve posted a lot recently about Fox News’ preferential treatment toward Newt Gingrich and backhanded treatment of Mitt Romney. For some reason – and I don’t have any theories why – Fox has been in a pro-Romney mode this week. I’ve posted about Sean Hannity helping to spin Romney’s $10,000 bet and hosting Christine “I’m not a witch” O’Donnell for a special segment announcing her endorsement of Romney. Yesterday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley went on Fox & Friends to announce her endorsement of Romney.  That night, she returned for a segment on On The Record to further discuss her endorsement. That, plus the anti-Gingrich segments I’ve noted lately adds up to Fox either hedging its bets or falling in line with the Republican conventional wisdom that Romney is the one likeliest to beat President Obama. Or maybe it’s just more disarray in the GOP.

What are your thoughts?

I thought he quit because it came out he was letting his administration impersonate cops to get away with the law according to Al Capone.

No, wait- that’s just the scandal that was coming out around the time he did.

Mutt is the American cheese on white bread (no crusts) slathered in mayo hero to restore the bland that all good Repigs need.

Thanks all, for the kind words. I miss the “like” button too.

@ W mace: Yes, Romney may be the hardest for President Obama to beat — but not impossible, and for just the reason you mentioned: he comes off like a rightwing Kerry, an effete blueblood.

And, that will be his undoing . . . just as it was difficult for John McCain to sound like a “man of the people” when he 1) thought people making less than $5 million/year constituted “the middle class”, and 2) had no idea how many properties he owned when asked, you put Mitt Romney, with his throwing $10K bets around the debate stage, his quadrupling the size of his CA beachside mansion, and his declaration that corporations “absolutely are people”, next to Obama, and the latter looks like a Midwestern Populist — Lincoln reincarnate — by comparison . . .

Even with the Fux News’ annointment, Mittens still has to convince the Repug evangelicals (who view Mormons with the same distaste as Muslims) and the Repug teabaggers (who distrust anyone who ever entertained a moderate political thought).

Remember, Fox is playing the ratings game, so jumping around helps their numbers. What a game. Elections by high $$ television. What a country.

I’d use the “likey” button on all these comments. I really miss it. Everyone has good points to make.

Oh, and a little weed with that ‘likey’ button wouldn’t be all bad!

Yes, we definitely weed a ‘likey’ button for mj’s comment.

And Newtie’s continuing to skip merrily into the land of megalomania. The most power-hungry of the GOP are beginning to realize that Newt dances to a drummer that only he can hear. He will be too unpredictable crazy to do them much good.

mj-the same one. It’s too bad we no longer have the like button, because I sure would and I’m sure several others would also for your comment.

@mj—the same one. You summed it up brilliantly.

“For some reason – and I don’t have any theories why – Fox has been in a pro-Romney mode this week.”

WHAT DID I TELL YA . . .

It was always gonna be Romney at the end — just as it was always gonna be McCain at the end in ’08.

They can talk all they want about Willard not being a “true conservative” — they said the same about J. Sidney: Crazy Annie Coulter said she’d pick Hillary Clinton over McCain; there was all those times Fox put a “D” behind McCain’s name . . .

But, gradually Rudy 9/11 Giuliani, Sleepy Fred, and the rest of the idiots fell out of the GOP Klown Kar, and suddenly, McCain and his “maverickness” was the greatest thing since sliced bread {especially after the Tundra Princess joined his ticket.}

Same thing now — Shellie Bachmann is too crazy for even the teabaggers, Pizza Dude Cain committed the unpardonable sin {messing with white women}, Helmethair Perry sounds like Dumbya on an mp3, and both Trump and Palin weren’t willing to take the pay cut that goes with being President.

That left Newt, and apparently both Fox and the GOP finally caught on to what most sane people have already realized: how the hell is somebody voted out as House Speaker BY HIS OWN DAMN PARTY suddenly the right man for the country as a whole?

With Newt the latest to fall out of the ratings lead, and therefore out of the GOP Klown Kar, it will be Mittens standing at the end . . . and suddenly, healthcare reform is a great idea, Mormonism is great, etc. . .

The Republican Party is doing a fine job of imploding. All of these presidential candidates are weak. Take your pick: A adulterer, a nobody, a bigot, a mad woman, a two-face liar, a amnesiac, and a bore.

Nixon trainee Roger Ailes is loyal to the Republican Party. He will support any candidate with an “R” by their name.

it’s only because they’ve realized at last that he is the only candidate with any breath of a chance. And he’s going to get mauled…destroyed….pulverized by the Dems & Obama. This has been entertaining, and will continue to be. Repubs are their own worst enemies right now, and the schadenfreude is quite delicious. I simply can’t wish them enough ill will and pain. Suck it you A-holes, you deserve it all.

Romney’s the front-runner again:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/16/us-usa-campaign-romney-idUSTRE7BF0Y620111216

My theory is that they saw the numbers shifting and decided to backpedal while there was still a little room to do it without looking like political hipsters.
