The winner of the Most Obnoxious Way To Cheerlead The Government Shutdown on Fox News has got to go to Fox News' Todd Starnes. In a Fox Nation headline, Starnes "asks," "Will TSA Fondle Our Private Parts if Uncle Sam Shuts Down?"

President Obama spoke for about 15 minutes today about what will happen if and when the federal government shuts down, thanks to the Republican Tea Party that would rather destroy the country than accept legitimately-passed legislation, upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, that provides health insurance for 30+ million more Americans.

The Washington Post reports that experts agree “A government shutdown would hinder the economy, waste billions of dollars in federal funds and put a scare in the markets.” But most of the talking heads on Fox News’ “business show” Bulls & Bears over the weekend (9/28/13) thought he or she knew better.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes pulled off a neat twofer last week as he did a good job of both explaining the fundamentals of  Obamacare and debunking Fox News’ ignorant spin on the subject.

Despite Bill O'Reilly's laughable claim that he ignores "guttersnipes" and his legion of alleged "enemies," the reality is that he is very much consumed with those who just can't accept his omniscience. And whenever these malefactors get under Bill's splotchy, blotchy skin, devout Catholic Bill launches all sorts of personal attacks on these individuals and in so doing, unleashes a torrent of nasty and threatening e-mails from righteous Bill's righteous minions whose love for Bill's invective provides nice ratings for Bill and Fox News. Such was the case, last week, when Bill accused a Philadelphia Daily News entertainment writer of being a "pinhead" because his snark about Bill's epic tome, "Killing Jesus" was, according to Bill, an attack on Bill's Christianity. And since Bill brought this egregious offensive to the attention of his viewers, the writer has received nasty e-mails, some of which are anti-Semitic. Call me a pinhead, Bill, but even though you write about Jesus, you're not exactly a paragon of Christianity!

It's been a week of outrageousness, I think we can all agree. And the pundits on Fox News have been no exception. Sadly, at least two of our nominees for Outrageous Quote of the Week this week come from liberals. Will one of them be THE MOST outrageous? The choice is up to you, dear readers.

Bill O’Reilly was profiled on 60 Minutes tonight. If you were hoping for any serious scrutiny of O’Reilly’s role in the system we call news in America, you’ll be sorely disappointed. There were no questions about his demonization of Dr. George Tiller, for example, who was later assassinated, no questions about the ambush interviews that are little more than an excuse for demeaning and denigrating people O'Reilly wants to pick on and no questions about his role in the GOP PR machine that’s otherwise known as Fox News. Nonetheless, the clips are worth watching for some behind-the-scenes glimpses of O’Reilly, especially his own comment at the end of the on-air clip, in which he describes himself as a “big thug” earning millions for it.

Tea Party Senator Mike Lee inadvertently proved that Republicans are only concerned about sabotaging the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, and in the meanwhile don't worry about the big F.U. they are giving to the 30+million looking forward to affordable and decent health insurance coverage.

Move over all you Old Testament prophets who conversed with God. There's a new prophet in town who is  hearing a voice telling him what to say. This modern day delusional has been instructed by God to write a "history" book that will bring joy to the multitudes and make the author even more obscenely rich ($10 million advance). While you might think that I'm talking about some crazed televangelist, who plays his flock for suckers, I'm talking about Fox News' Bill O'Reilly whose fan base also exemplifies that old PT Barnum adage. True story. Bill O'Reilly, like the Christian evangelists, was told by God to put pen to paper and write "Killing Jesus." At least that's what he told CBS's Norah O'Donnell in an interview to be aired tonight on "60 Minutes." But, as he said, being on God's speed dial doesn't make him "special." Awww, he's so humble!

Monica Crowley, our favorite Fox News conspiracy theorist, did not disappoint last night when she substituted as host on the Hannity show. In a Republicans-only discussion about their efforts to defund and destroy the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, Crowley announced that Obamacare is really about President Obama’s attempt to gain power and control over Americans. But when you consider the radical-right goals that are regularly supported on Fox News - including the current efforts to undo the legislation by blackmailing America with a threat to shut down the government - you can't miss the glass house from which Crowley was throwing her stones.
