Fox News Mailbag - 10/19/2013 Edition
We've got another bumper crop of emails for Fox in our mail bag this week. This week's assortment includes several from folks we might like. But there's also a good dose of the crazy. Read on to see what I mean...
Read moreFox & Friends Confuse Psychosis With Messages From God!
If you happen to see somebody who is raving about various conspiracies and God, don't assume that they are having a psychotic episode. According to the cretinous curvy couch conservatives on Fox & Friends, these deranged individuals are on God's private chat line. Yes it's true. Those living in the reality based community understand the pathological basis for mental health problems. Meanwhile, the Fox friends are living in the days when leeches were used for surgery and schizophrenia was considered to be a manifestation of demonic forces. Reinforcing the suspicion that Fox & Friends is the go to show for 6,000 year old earthers, the buffoonish brethren actually seem to believe that the US House of Representatives stenographer, who went into a bizarre rant about God and Freemasons, was "bringing a message from God." Paging Dr. Ablow?!
Read moreSarah Palin Suggests President Obama Is ‘The Enemy’
Sarah Palin visited The Kelly File Thursday night where she spewed a meandering load of bile that largely ignored host Megyn Kelly’s questions. But Palin’s hate mongering came through loud and clear, especially the part where she called President Obama’s “fundamental transformation of America” the “enemy of America’s economic freedom.” Then she said, “The enemy of the enemy is my friend.” There was not a word of objection from Kelly.
Read moreElisabeth Hasselbeck Wins Our Most Outrageous Quote Poll This Week
Congratulations to Elisabeth Hasselbeck. About a month into her new gig at Fox News and she's fitting right in, if her shockingly ignorant comments about "Obamacare" are any guide. At any rate, she won handily our most Outrageous Quote of the Week poll.
Read moreCarl Bernstein Models How To Be An Effective Fox News Guest
Regular readers know I am vehemently in favor of Democrats and liberals going on Fox News. But I am just as vehement that if and when they do so (and not all should), they must be prepared for what they are walking into. Carl Bernstein - of Woodward and Bernstein/Watergate fame - clearly was prepared for his appearance on The O'Reilly Factor last night. Bernstein did what all guests should do: take hold of the discussion and not allow the conservative host to control it.
Read moreVarney And Vitter Lie About Obamacare ‘Special Subsidies’ For Congress
Fox News seems either not to know or not to care that Republican charges that Congress receives “special subsidies” for Obamacare (that regular folks don’t) is a lie. Yet not only was Senator David Vitter (R-LA) allowed to propagate it on Your World two days ago, host Stuart Varney spouted the same falsehood in agreement.
Read moreSean Hannity's Obamacare 'Train Wreck' Lies Exposed
Last week, Sean Hannity hosted an hour-long special designed to prove that the Affordable Care Act is "disastrous" and has provided "one big headache after another." During the show, Hannity trotted out three married couples to relate their horror stories with Obamacare. But a Salon.com writer became suspicious, did a little research, and found out some inconvenient truths to suggest that each could have been helped, not hurt, by the ACA if only the couples hadn't decided in advance they hated the law so much they didn't bother to check out the possibilities. And if only the Hannity show had bothered to do any honest fact checking. (h/t reader Jane S.)
Read moreOops! Gretchen Carlson Mistakenly Reported Death Of Rep. Bill Young
Congressman C.W. “Bill” Young is gravely ill but still alive - despite a report by Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson earlier today that he had died. It’s the kind of mistake we’d expect Fox to make about a Democrat. But, surprisingly, Young is a Republican.
Read moreFox News War On Oprah: Diana Nyad ‘Atheist’ Edition
In a Fox News twofer, The Five found an excuse to attack both Oprah Winfrey and atheists today as they discussed why atheists are angry at the talk show host over comments she made about God during an interview with swimmer Diana Nyad. The segment was set up to criticize atheists - and the five co-hosts fell in line. But the segment also deliberately raised questions about Winfrey.
Read moreBill O'Reilly Hearts Miley Cyrus - A Retrospective
It's not just your humble correspondent who has noticed that the divinely inspired Bill O'Reilly seems to be quite interested in the career and activities of Miley Cyrus. When O'Reilly visited The View, on October 1st, guest host Jason Biggs asked O'Reilly about Ms. Cyrus because O'Reilly "talks a lot about her." O'Reilly denied that he does so and explained his paternal interest in her. Given the multitude of Factor shows, throughout the years, O'Reilly is correct in that he hasn't talked "a lot" about Cyrus. But his fascination with what she does and what she wears has stretched across the years and he still wants to be her daddy.
