As Bill O'Reilly considers himself to be the Pope of cable news, he, like medieval popes, feels it's his sacred duty to organize crusades (or are they jihads?) against those who don't agree with his particular world view (Despite his "Tip" about not forcing your views on others!) And when he speaks, his "folks," in heeding his call to arms, promptly harass and threaten those whom O'Reilly deems as infidels such as two state governors (Washington and RI) who didn't comply with O'Reilly's true meaning of Christmas and whose offices were inundated with calls and e-mails from O'Reilly's culture warriors. Starting in January, Bill took up the cross against NY Governor Andrew Cuomo because of his proposed legislation to strengthen and expand abortion rights and his failure to promote Bill's ongoing causus belli, Jessica's Law. In order to make sure that his crusaders made life miserable for Cuomo's staff, O'Reilly's home page had, among other things, a big, fat banner which linked to Cuomo's office phone and e-mail. Now it's gone. Cuomo hasn't backed down, so there's no victory. Whassup?!
In January, Bill fired the first volley with his baseless prophecy that Cuomo's legislation, with health exceptions for late term abortions, will allow stupid women to have abortions for any reason - a similarly baseless claim that he made during his vicious crusade against Dr. Tiller against whom he made the same claim in the Cuomo hit piece. In February, O'Reilly used Cuomo, in two segments, as an example of his newest bizarro meme; i.e. that America is becoming barbaric. In both segments he smeared Dr. Tiller with the same old baseless claim about how he did late term abortions for any reason. (O'Reilly's crusades continue even after his target his died!) O'Reilly devoted a "Talking Points Memo" to Cuomo's barbarism.
Up until this week, there were four moving banner visuals on the top of Bill's webpage. Now there are only three. There's "Mug Madness" which is an offer you can't refuse. With the purchase of any of Bill's literary tomes, you get a free "patriot mug." Wow. Then there's a schedule of his upcoming "bold, fresh, tour dates." Save the date. And finally, there's a reminder to "get ready for the whole story" in his upcoming book, killing Jesus, due out on September 24th. (Why didn't he release this before Easter cuz that would have been more timely?) Can hardly wait! The big visual with the exhortation to get in touch with Cuomo's office is gone. If you google the right words, you can still get to the page but it's no longer available on his webpage which is where he directed his viewers during his "Talking Points" memo that expressed his outrage over Cuomo.
Bill loves a crusade and will continue it, as we saw with Tiller. If he wants to galvanize his legions against Cuomo, why has he taken away their principal reminder to do so? Go figure?
