Sheriff David Clarke, the Fox News fave who has repeatedly called for violence against Trump protesters, is also a Donald Trump fave. Clarke has left (temporarily, I’m sure) his home away from home at Fox News and relocated to Cleveland where he will speak during prime time tonight. Apparently actually doing his job as sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, takes a distant back seat.
According to the official convention website, Clarke is scheduled to speak tonight, when the theme is “Make America safe again.” Clarke is on Fox News so often, you have to wonder when – or if – he ever has time to do the job he was elected to do.
As for keeping Americans safe, Clarke only seems interested in keeping some Americans safe. For example, in March, he urged Trump supporters, “Don’t back down” to “these goons” who were protesting. He also urged supporters to “step in” if the police “need a hand.”
In May, Clarke told Fox viewers that police “need to be allowed to take the gloves off and to take an offensive posture and become the aggressor and delivering force” to Trump protesters.
Less than two weeks later, on Fox Business, Clarke recommended to Trump-rally attendees: “Make sure you have a couple of enforcers in those packs in case something gets out of hand.” For women, he suggested “a couple of able-bodied males… preferably ones that have thrown a punch or two in their life, to be able to defend you should something break out."
Fox loves Clarke so much, he appeared on Fox News and Fox Business a combined total of at least five times in one day to help politicize the tragic murder of police officers in Dallas, earlier this month. Clarke made such irresponsible statements as calling President Obama the “cop-hater-in-chief.”
Last week, Clarke expanded his area of “expertise” to fighting international terrorism. To help Fox exploit the terror attack in Nice, France, Clarke announced:
“Look, I’m through trying to understand the sick ideology of Islamism. Instead of trying to understand it, we ought to just try to kill it as an ideology. There’s no sense of urgency on the part of the White House to do anything about it. Once again, President Obama came out yesterday and started lecturing us about Islam and Muslims. …There’s no clear, coherent strategy either at the federal level or at the local level to destroy this ideology.”
Clarke also declared, “We need a General Schwarzkopf-type leader, in terms of a military commander, along with a Commander-in-Chief who have a sense of urgency to understand that the wolf is chewing through the door. …We must kill the wolf in order to keep Americans safe. …We need unconventional, creative tactics to kill it.”
Yesterday, Clarke visited CNN where, unlike on Fox, anchor Don Lemon challenged Clarke. It didn’t go so well for him.
Watch it below, from CNN’s coverage of the police shootings in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Then remind yourself: this is someone Trump wants to help "make America safe again." Do you think Trump would have ever found Clarke if he wasn't a fixture on Fox?

There was a parade of Fox guests (or those who should be like the underwear model) doing their standard shtick without the benefit of a host feeding them softball prompts.
Well, Trump’s appearance was more World Wrestling Entertainment entrance than Fox News segment but Der Furor needed to be different with that Nuremburg Rally flashback.
Hey, Sheriff — does that include the Colorado GOP delegation, who walked off the convention floor in protest over a rules vote?
