Yesterday, I wrote about Jesse Watters’ whitesplaining scold to African Americans for raising the “old, tired” subject of race. But even a quick look through the comments at Fox Nation, the website that Watters manages, proves that racism is alive and well right under Watters’ nose.
We’ve written many, many times about the blatant racism that festers in the Fox Nation community. A recent FoxNews.com article described Watters as “a correspondent, producer and managing editor for FOX Nation.”
Co-hosting Thursday’s The Five, Watters made it clear he thinks it’s time for African Americans to get over it already:
This is old, tired rhetoric. You have Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, LeBron James, a black guy in the White House, Oprah Winfrey… No one cares about this stuff any more. It’s old news. And you know what it does? It has an effect on white voters. That’s why a lot of these Democrat candidates can’t win middle class white voters. ‘Cause if you keep saying everybody’s racist and we’re a bunch of smear merchants… it offends people.
Old news? I don’t think so. Yesterday, I took a stroll through Fox Nation and found these comments under a post with the racially suggestive title, “Prepare For The Worst’: Ferguson Awaits Grand Jury Decision On Possible Indictment Of Officer Wilson”:
Also these under the inflammatory title, “NAACP Ignores Mia Love, Tim Scott in Post-Election Report”:
And even here, in the innocuously titled post about Obama’s decision to nominate an African American woman to be the next attorney general, “Obama To Nominate U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch To Replace Holder As AG”:
In other words, Watters has a lot of nerve calling racism “old news.” Even worse, you have to ask why he isn’t “tired” enough of these kinds of comments that he either can’t or won’t be rid of them.
The problem with that being that FB only deals with it when it’s reported enough times, and a lot of threads, that simply isn’t gonna happen. I think half the hounds shared (and reported comments on) their thread about Loretta Lynch, guess what? I was there earlier for grabs, only the ones with the N-Word were removed. Nice one, facebook.
The other problem is that ignoring news articles because you know what reaction you’ll get is a sign that you’re an incompetent editor, in it’s best light. If you can’t (or won’t) keep the racists in line until they get banned/leave on their own, you have no business being in that position. In fact, this weekend, I saw people using his name to call out people who run their pages out of his book. His name is an insulting way to call out someone who would allow racism over an non-offensively stated opposing view.
Also, I see one of the commenters on Fox Nation refers the the new AG nominee as “a graduate of Harvard (LOL)” – because, by gum, we don’t want any of those smart people running the government.
