Sean Hannity may be many things but he’s not stupid. Or at least, he’s smart enough to know that Fox News contributor Pat Caddell is neither a liberal nor a real Democrat. But Hannity pretended otherwise last night, even as Caddell signaled the truth.
For a discussion about Obama’s “amnesty agenda,” Hannity assembled a panel full of conservatives that he presented as if they were not. In addition to the blatantly conservative Katie Pavlich, Hannity added “Fox News legal analyst” Peter Johnson, Jr., without noting that Johnson often works as a stand in for Roger Ailes. And then we had Pat Caddell.
Caddell has teamed up with Citizens United to make an anti-Obama movie, has appeared as a CPAC panelist, has spoken out on behalf of racist, scofflaw rancher Cliven Bundy on Fox and once said on Hannity & Colmes that he was “worried” about Hispanics moving away from the Republican party. And that’s just a taste of Caddell’s “Democrat promoting Republicans” role on Fox.
But Hannity said, “You’re a liberal Democrat,” as he turned to Caddell last night. Apparently, Caddell made some kind of doubting expression. Hannity continued, “Sorry, you are.”
Now we saw Caddell make an expression as if to say, “Whatever you say.”
Hannity added, “I’m sorry you had a tough night the other night, Pat.”
Caddell replied, “Very hard,” in a tone that didn’t exactly sound like he was sorry about the outcome.
