Sarah Palin Forgets Her Commitment To Free Speech Just In Time To Attack MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on January 05, 2014 · Flag

In case you’ve missed it, Fox News is making racial attacks on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry again. The excuse this time is Harris-Perry’s remarks about Mitt Romney’s African American grandson – for which she has profusely apologized. But while Fox News contributor Sarah Palin was oh-so-stirring in her “free speech” defense of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson’s insulting remarks about gays and blacks – she has suddenly lost her First Amendment fervor and is now on her high horse with holier-than-thou sensitivity on behalf of the Romney family.

To refresh your memory, Palin offered up these patriotic words on the Hannity show in support of Phil Robertson when he was under fire for suggesting homosexuality was in a league with bestiality and that African Americans were better off under segregation:

This is all about freedom, free speech. You know, so many American families have spilled blood and treasure to guarantee Phil Robertson and everybody else’s right to voice their personal opinions. And once that freedom is lost, Sean, everything is lost in our country.

A few days later, while still defending Robertson, this time as part of an “exchange of ideas,” Palin admitted she didn’t even know what he had actually said because she had never bothered to read the interview that was the cause of all the controversy.

But last week, Harris-Perry held a discussion in which she and her guests joked about Mitt Romney’s adopted African American grandchild. Unlike Robertson, Harris has unequivocally (and subsequently emotionally) apologized. But, apparently, “freedom of speech kind of gal” Palin is not only unwilling to give Harris-Perry the same “freedom” as Robertson, she used the opportunity to make political hay at Harris-Perry’s expense.

Palin took to her Facebook page to suggest that Harris-Perry is a racist:

Leftist media hounds are not expressing an opinion with this attack; they are expressing a prejudice that would never be accepted if it came from anyone else but the lib media.

You mean like it was not accepted from Robertson – just reinstated at Duck Dynasty and relentlessly championed by Fox News?

Palin also said, apparently not thinking of any hypocrisy from herself or Fox News:

You really need a conscience, yellow journalists. May your 2014 New Year’s Resolution be to find one.

No word on whether Palin bothered to find out what Harris-Perry actually said before condemning her and the "lamestream media" over it.

doors17, Same to you! Catch you at the next Palin article, that I’ll feel the need to set the record straight. A promise I made to her, when we met in a private setting.

Dennis, Thank you for a civil conversation, it’s rare nowadays on the internet.

I guess we’re just going to have to part by agreeing to disagree. I don’t agree with you, but I’m sure you can say the same thing about me. It has always been my belief that we vote the way we do because we all have had different experiences in life that led us to our political philosophies. This would include half the people I know or have known.

At my local paper’s blog I’ve been in several discussions with several on the right. Last year I invited them to meet me for lunch. They accepted. Person to person the tone is much more civilized and we became friends by discovering that while we disagree on politics we did have many other similar interests in common as we got to know each other as people and not an internet handle. My real name is Jim Thorp. (no relation to the famous Jim Thorpe)

I hope we’re both correct that we’ll have a Palin-Clinton matchup in ’16, for different reasons of course. Have a healthy new year.

doors17, I appreciate your attempt to have a conversation. Only you have several things wrong about those on the political RIGHT. Notice I do not say Republican, because I left the Republican Party because of the treatment of Sarah Palin and the TEA Party, who actually are trying to accomplish things for the American people.

RUSH doesn’t create anger. He simply reports the truth about what the LEFT is trying to accomplish. Our anger comes from the fact that the LEFT has already attempted to put in place their ideas in the past, and they have utterly failed. Large Centralized Gov’t always fails, for the simple reason that they can only come up with one single solution for circumstances that require a variety of solutions. I’ll point to the EU as an example, but more importantly I’ll point to the years of the Great Depression, years following the Great Society, and today the Great Recession. The LEFT has proven over and over they can not govern to success, because keep trying to take control of Private Sector wealth.

Anyway the LEFT needs to LIE to itself to generate this idea of an enemy. The political RIGHT simply isn’t who the LEFT portrays. They get away with their non-reality by doing Satire. Unfortunately there are those on your side that believe what is suppose to be satire as truth. In the end serious people don’t take the LEFT’s idea seriously. The LEFT has not only failed on radio, because they cannot make their arguments for their causes stick, without eventually resorting to “WE Won” so eat it. That not only doesn’t sell on Radio, MSNBC behind Maddow and others, believe if Americans just heard the Liberal ideas they would by into it. Instead they have turned into a Network of Personal attacks, from Morning Joe, to the last show of the day. Americans will never accept the ideas of the LEFT (Obama has been elected twice for reasons other than his TRUE ideas.

As far as comedy? The Right finds a different kind of humor funny. Attacking individuals for the shortcomings, I personally don’t find it entertaining. There is a clear attempt by the LEFT to control what is considered UNFUNNY. They just happen to be what the POLITICAL LEFT are promoting. As I stated earlier, the LEFT does not differentiate what is personal and what is political. This is deliberate to control the message.

FoxNews is not perfect and it is OBVIOUS they promote the Establishment Republicans, which actually stand for nothing but winning elections. Palin brings absolute fear to them, but because of her enormous popularity (it will clearly diminish greatly this year if she doesn’t run for Senate) they can’t afford to dump her entirely. They do make attempts to diminish her. Look at they way Rove is treated and the way she is treated. Yet the last two elections she has basically been the Conservatives version of Rove, and she has defeated him over and over. The last 13 headed to head battles, she 12 to 1 against his candidates. If she ever got his money, Conservatives would take over the GOP in a very short period of time. FoxNews and the GOP leadership attempt to rig who the Party leaders will be.

Dennis, I think it’s fair to say both sides can be equally guilty of being sensitive. Personally for me nothing offends me. I may not like what I hear or read, but I never felt the need for therapy or have a fainting spell.

Do you remember a few years ago when Fox tried to find its own Jon Stewart? They had a show called The Half Hour Comedy Hour. It bombed, because it wasn’t funny and that’s what the right seems to be lacking, it doesn’t know how to laugh. For years my side tried and failed with talk radio, while we have many AM stations today that has entire format of right wing talk with its fire breathing host getting attention by creating anger with its listeners. While my side has failed with talk radio we are kicking butt on the comedy side. The right loves it when we get angry with Rush and all his clones, but to laugh at them and use comedy as a weapon frustrates them.

Yes I know Fox kicks butt on the ratings game by using the same successful format that right wing talk radio uses by talking down and getting its listeners angry, but all they really care about is getting the ratings to generate higher advertising revenue. Lately these ratings haven’t reflected the results at the ballot box. So I’m happy to continue winning elections while your side gets its ratings.

In conclusion Dennis I sincerely hope we both get our wish that Sarah Palin becomes your nominee and Hillary ours in ’16. See, Dennis, the left and right can agree on occasion.

mj, I can only state you are sadly misinformed. To go line by line with you again, as I patiently did the last comment, would be a waste of time. You have bought into a narrative on Palin that simply isn’t rooted in reality. I don’t ever remember ever using the word Palin and ‘misquoted’ in the same sentence. I will defend and take on LOW-Information persons as yourself wherever I find the need to set the record straight.

doors17, Why are there NO Right Wing Comedians? Does the thought cross your mind? Answer: The LEFT takes their politics PERSONALLY. There is no separation in how they feel about themselves, their family, or some protected political group. The LEFT allows itself to be offended for political groups, for ethnic groups, for sexual orientation. The culture has made it clear you can’t offend a GROUP on the political LEFT. Just the opposite of the RIGHT. Most LEFTISTS living in a large Metropolitan area would know very little about a Evangelical, other than what they are told. Because they are “NOT ONE OF US”, they are now fair game. Personally (because of the life I’ve lived) I don’t take anyone serious who is ‘offended’ for a group. If Sarah stated she was Offended for Evangelicals, I would think she was nuts. She hasn’t. She speaks of individuals, and individual things. She does point out that the powers to be use that power to ridicule those that are not in a position to defend themselves.

Personally, I would like to see Palin run for Senate and then for POTUS. It seems that will not happen. If she doesn’t, any run for POTUS will be that much harder. It a very real possibility she will never run for Public Office again, and that will give legitimacy to those who state she is in it for the money. If that is what she is doing, she certainly has earned it. Very few, in fact I can’t think of another politician willing to attempt the way the National Press attacks Conservatives. Without her challenging blogs like this one written above, there would be no one on the RIGHT defending the Conservative cause.

I would love to see Hillary Clinton be the Democrats nomination. I can’t think of an easier politician to defeat.

“Now Sarah Palin’s time as Governor she got just as many Democrat Votes as Republican Votes. This is why she had Approval ratings in the 90’s.”

Um, no . . . she had approval ratings in in the 90s in her few months in office — primarily because her predecessor, Frank Murkowski, had an approval rating of 19 percent; compared to him, a polar bear would have polled in the 90s (by the time of her resignation it had dropped to 56%)

I wonder — why would such a popular, bipartisan governor resign with less than two years remaining in her term? Maybe it was the more than dozen ethics violations charges levied against her by that bipartisan AK State Legislature . . .

Dennis here sounds like a dyed-in-the-wool Palinista:

- claims every ridiculous thing she said was “misquoted”
- thinks she can do no wrong
- believes anyone who disagrees with her suffers from “PDS”
- is convinced she isn’t far-right in philosophy

and, as they’ve already loudly demonstrated, the Palinistas won’t be told anything that contradicts their view of their Queen Bee. Thus, I’m gonna bow out and leave Dennis to his delusions . . .

Dennis, the right wing political cartoonists will have fun with her, but not right wing comedians. There are no right wing comedians.

We can continue and stick our tongues out at each other and accomplish nothing, but in the meantime I’ll keep hoping that she’ll run and become your nominee.

Gooch X, I can assure you, she is not the puppet Obama is. It is the National Media that has this OBSESSION with a FAR RIGHT that doesn’t exist. You are either a Progressive (towards big Gov’t) or you are not. If you are voting for strictly Social issues, which most women on the LEFT are, than they are votes non-Progressives are losing to the Progressives. The TEA Party are non-Progressives, and there is no Social Agenda among them. So you are telling me Palin is a tool of Non-Progressives, than I’ll agree to that. Tell me what is so Extreme about a non-Progressive?

mj, I didn’t go anywhere near the First Amendment Rights, and neither did Palin. Your next post is the perfect example of PDS. You find what were momentary slip ups (as were edited interviews with Couric) and you hang onto them as though they are monumental gaffs. 1) North Korea. I was listening to Glenn Beck when she stated that. If you are listening (knowing she is outside the studio) as the others are changing the subject over and over, she got caught between them changing subjects. She quickly, with seconds corrected herself. This is a Governor who did Trade with S. Korean Diplomats & had meetings with Federal DNI over the possibility of Korea’s ability to shoot missiles into Alaska. YOU would be the idiot if you think she didn’t know the difference.

‘Refudiate’ is the only word that was new to the language. Again she realize her mistake within minutes and pulled her comment down of Facebook. Since she was catching heat for it, she had a little fun with it. How does this PROVE IGNORANCE & STUPIDITY?

As far as the conversation with Sarkosy, why wouldn’t she believe it was him? She was talking to world leaders while in New York for two days. This was hardly the PUNK that the LEFT keeps making a big deal of.

Palin was 100% correct about Paul Revere, and once again it was the LIB Media that thought that they had a ‘Gotcha’ moment to prove she was stupid. The Rapid PDS response by the entire Media only showed how “Ignorant & Stupid” they were. Go ahead ’Google – Palin-Revere-Experts. You will find those that know History like her, knew she was right.

On the VP attack: This purely YOUR interpretation. VP can negotiate with Senators to bring legislation to the Senate Floor. Tell me where her comments state any differently. What does “Get in here” mean to you?

All of these anecdotes to prove your: “She is Ignorant and Stupid”, just doesn’t cut the muster. Most of them are just petty reaches to try to jammed down a narrative about her that is simply false. You can continue to believe the narrative if you wish, but I’ll stand by the fact that she took a financially backwards State under the corrupt forces of the largest industries in America and a runaway spending Federal Gov’t and brought them down to HER will. She was willing to take on her own political Party for corruption and out of control spending, and took the Big Three Oil Companies to the Supreme Ct. and forced them to produce on their leases. She also got the largest oil company in the world at the time to take substantial risk to build the largest Infrastructure project in the history of North America. Only the Obama Administration stopped it.

Sandman2, You stated your opinion, what you offered were not facts towards Palin being ignorant nor stupid. Her handlers like Nicole Wallace were Hillary supporters inside the McCain Campaign. She has admitted as much. Steve Schmidt is a Liberal (he has admitted as much) who despises the Religious Right. It was clear that it was HE that didn’t do his homework. There were dozens of other handlers who absolutely loved Sarah Palin, and are still behind her today. The reason you never hear from them, is because it doesn’t help drive the narrative they seek on Palin. More than a dozen came out and called the HBO Movie ‘Game Change’ a LIE (as did McCain), yet the Media never put their quotes forward.

doors17, I notice you didn’t say the comedians & political cartoonists will have a blast with Hillary running. Why is that? I think you proved my earlier point on the bias of our Media.

You think those on the LEFT are aware of Hillary’s skeletons? Not even close. Here is something that I doubt anyone on the LEFT thinks about. The very little legislation Hillary Clinton put up on the Senate Floor was strictly partisan, and she never spoke of anything that both Parties would vote for. Now Sarah Palin’s time as Governor she got just as many Democrat Votes as Republican Votes. This is why she had Approval ratings in the 90’s. She is not the RIGHT-Wing Extremist that our Media wants to portray her.

@ Dennis McHale: “Vistor 55, you keep saying Palin is ignorant and stupid, yet you offer no facts.”

No need for Viz to offer facts of Palin’s stupidity, Dennis — Simple Sarah has offered plenty of her own:

- “But obviously, we’ve got to stand with our North Korean allies.”

- “‘Refudiate,’ ‘misunderestimate,’ ‘wee-wee’d up.’ English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!’”

- “Ohh, good, thank you, yes.” —Sarah Palin, after a notorious Canadian prank caller, posing as French President Nicolas Sarkozy, complimented her on the documentary about her life

- ‘’[Paul Revere] did warn the British. And in a shout-out, gotcha-type of question that was asked of me, I answered candidly. And I know my American history.’’

- " ’They’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.‘’—Sarah Palin, getting the vice president’s constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does

“In 1992 the Media voted 89% to 7% for Bill Clinton over Bush.”

The media “voted”? As a body?

Or did you mean individuals who WORK in the media voted for Clinton over Bush? And if so — so what? In retrospect, they made the right choice . . .

Are you still serious, Dennis McHale?
“In what regard Charlie?” You can’t possibly think she’s anything but ignorant and stupid.

I still have hopes that the Republicans will nominate Sarah Palin in ’16, but alas I know it’ll most likely not happen. If she does then it’ll be like a religious revival for comedians and political cartoonists as she’ll have run her entire campaign on Fox News and right wing talk radio to avoid any confrontation with those who are real journalist and not have an right wing agenda that she’s accustom to.

Since they usually nominate whoever finishes in second in the previous election I’ll guess today that they’ll go with Rick Santorum, but it doesn’t matter. If Hillary decides to run I strongly believe she’ll win handily and she has the advantage of everyone knowing her and all skeletons in her past, real or imaginary conspiracy’s that the majority of Americans are already aware of that the right can only preach to those who would never vote for her anyway. If she doesn’t run then it is wide open and that’s the only hope the right have to become victorious in regaining the White House.

Vistor 55, you keep saying Palin is ignorant and stupid, yet you offer no facts. Its your opinion. However, you cannot say Palin supported Roberson’s vie comments. She clearly indicated she did not read the article, and had no intention of getting drawn into replying about his comments in GQ. Her comments were directed at A&E, and what was already published in other media venues. She was correct, as much as that may gall you. You and Ellen and the LEFT try to ‘TIE’ Palin to Robertsons words, but YOU CAN’T, because she never spoke about them. She probably didn’t watch MSNBC either, but was sent what Harris-Perry and her guests stated. My point is you are being suckered into LIES, by a Media, like Ellen above, that are just interested in spewing a false narrative about Palin, PERIOD!

To Karen J, I feel sorry for you. I can’t imagine why you would believe Sarah Palin FAKED her pregnancy. What could she possibly have gained personally or politically to do so? In fact it has clearly ‘hurt’ her politically. In fact, if her and Bristol had abortions and didn’t tell anyone, there is a chance she could be Vice President today. I mentioned this internet coverage of her child, in order to demonstrate how NUTS the LEFT are. You proved my point. So go back and consider where the coverage would be if her two Lesbian lovers were killed just before she ran for President. Apparently it doesn’t take much for those on the LEFT to believe anything.

My point being was that anyone (such as Ellen) can throw crap on the walls, and that is what her last two attacks on Palin have been, and hope they stick. Do any of those suffering from PDS doubt for a second that if Sarah Palin had someone come forward and state that two of her Lesbian Lovers were murdered, and that the person making the charge was a lover of Palin and the other two, that the National Media wouldn’t be all over that story? Joe West, I think you need to reevaluate your thinking on Bias in the Media. In 1992 the Media voted 89% to 7% for Bill Clinton over Bush. In 2008 donations from Media personnel went to Democrats over Republicans 15 to 1. Don’t tell me there is no Bias. Conservatives sites on the Internet, at least the ones that take themselves seriously don’t write nonsense like Ellen has above.

As far as arguing the FACTS, I would be very happy to do so. I have yet to read here anyone make a good argument for what Ellen has called for in either Blog she has written.

To Vistor 55, and all those that stated Palin didn’t KNOW what Robertson stated just aren’t being honest. She knew as much as anyone here who is angry at her for defending Robertson. She stated she didn’t read the GQ article. That is a far cry from not knowing what his comments were in a 24/7 news cycle with Internet access.

As for the ‘Free Speech’ attack that Ellen has laid out, Palin did not say Harris-Perry couldn’t say it. Only that what she stated and allowed to be stated on her show, without a reprisal, was a direct insult to Romney, his family, and his adopted son. There was clearly a deep prejudice shown.

To compare the two (Robertson to Harris-Perry) is absurd. To begin with Robertson ‘opinion’ had nothing to do with his show. He wasn’t ‘using’ GQ as a forum to spread HATE. Harris-Perry was clearly allowing a deep seated prejudice against the Romney Family take place on her forum to pass as Political Discourse.

It is a shame that those here (which Ellen counts on) feel the need to attack Palin, because it feeds your false narrative of her, and somehow relives your PDS anger. Any idiot who adds another LIE to the Palin narrative gets carried on and on further and further with the LOW-Information types, and Palin supporters keep reading the same BS. Those who have made comments here believes Ellen’s nonsense that Palin didn’t know Robertson’s comments, when of course she did, the same way 99% of the population found out about them.

Anyway Palin CLEARLY won both cases. A&E folded as Palin predicted, and Harris-Perry gave a genuine apology. Both incidents resulted from a HATE that resides on the LEFT, and since they believe they own all political discourse, they believe they can bully the Political RIGHT. Palin is changing that. Unfortunately she doesn’t have any assistance from the timid Republican politicians.

mlp, I didn’t say that anything I put in my comment below was true. I simply was stating that if Ellen was going to get to write a blog on utter nonsense about Palin, I could find nonsense that OTHERS have written to make accusations on Palin’s equal on the LEFT, Obama and Hillary. I KNEW I would get the attention of those suffering from rapid PDS, because of the venom they have for anything on the Political RIGHT, but most definitely suffer from PDS.

So like every comment below i could just throw the crap on the wall and see if someone is interested in talking truth. Obviously they are not. These comments below only show the HATE from their PDS minds that anyone defending Palin must be attacked n a personal level. We can both play this DUMB game.

Since Dennis The Menace brought up Larry Sinclair, I thought it only appropriate to recall HuffPo’s summary of Sinclair’s presser at the NPC back in 2008:

“The event began less than auspiciously for Mr. Sinclair — who has gained Internet notoriety by spreading wild accusations regarding gay sex, drugs and possible murder committed by Barack Obama — as National Press Club staff took pains to remove the association’s logo from behind the podium where Sinclair was set to speak.

“Of course, the club had made clear for some time that it should not be viewed as endorsing Mr. Sinclair’s claims simply for having agreed to host his mind-numbingly preposterous litany — heavens, no! All that could be said for the institution was that it was happy to rent out its space to anyone who might be willing to pay in order to switch on the microphone.

And pay Sinclair did — for the venue and its microphone, as well as for a kilted lawyer (with a suspended license) named Montgomery Blair Sibley, who informed those assembled that his preferences in dress were arrived at as a way to secure comfort for his unusually large sexual organs. “I don’t know why men wear pants,” he said with a poker face. “It’s a function of male genitalia. If you’re size normal or smaller, you’re probably comfortable with [pants]. … Those at the other end of the spectrum find them quite confining.”

“And so the inquiries came, most of which Mr. Sinclair easily batted back with the exhortation to investigate his claims more vigorously. As for the evidence he provided, it amounted to a few phone numbers — registered under different names and in different states — that Mr. Sinclair claimed he used to call, variously, a limousine driver, the deceased choir director of Trinity United Church of Christ, and others. Clearly, it is now the duty of the mobile phone companies to open up these records to court scrutiny.

“I expect you to ask me questions,” Sinclair told the reporters. “I expect you to do your job, and actually find facts as opposed to looking at DailyKos or FireDogLake or Huffington Post or all of these pro-Obama sites.”

“When a questioner asked Mr. Sinclair whether he would permit review of his mental health records “for more than 30 minutes” — in a lame attempt to riff on the restrictions imposed by John McCain’s campaign — Sinclair mumbled for a few moments, unaware of the reference.

When he was clued in, Mr. Sinclair shrugged and said: “You can see where my head is today.”

To borrow a phrase: yes, we can."

Oh. It’s also funny how Dennis completely IGNORES Ellen’s basic point that Sarah is NOT the “free speech advocate” she claimed to be just a couple of weeks ago in defending Phil Robertson’s vile comments.

I guess when you can’t argue the facts on their own merits you have to resort to deflect and divert (with the odd ad hominem attack thrown in for good measure).
Joseph West commented 2014-01-06 17:20:43 -0500 · Flag
Dennis is sooooo funny.

For someone who’s basically accusing Ellen of “debasing Palin” in the name of “PDS” (presumably “Palin Derangement Syndrome”), he certainly has NO problem with his own “CDS” (Clinton Derangement Syndrome) and his own “ODS” (Obama Derangement Syndrome). But I guess that’s typical behavior for right-wingers—protect, at all costs, your right-wing zeroes heroes from legitimate criticisms by deflecting and attacking your opponents with unproven right-wing attack points.

It is funny how, when Hillary defended Bill by claiming there was a “vast right-wing conspiracy” designed to remove him from office, even the “liberal” media pooh-poohed her claim (so much for that “liberal” media, by the way). Now, the same members of the “right-wing” behind that conspiracy are trying to turn themselves into the “victims” of a “liberal” media (which, again, does NOT exist—and really never did; it’s just that the right-wing heirs to the John Birch Society weren’t happy with the idea of an independent media, that challenged politicians to defend their actions and ideas—and it’s why Reagan was more than happy to do away with the Fairness Doctrine which served to press the generally CONSERVATIVE owners of local and national media to observe a balance in coverage).

Antoinette, I thought that the “bum” (as you call him) wanted to marry Bristol but either grizzled mama Sarah got in the way or Bristol chose to not marry her baby-daddy. (For what it’s worth, the Wiki article on Bristol says that “they” broke off their engagement in 2009, then reconciled and resumed the engagement in mid-2010 but then “they” ended it—again—within a month.)

I don’t think Levi deserves the “bum” label.

Poor Dennis – delusional to the point of crazy-ass gibberish. And Palin is so desperate she is trying to glom on to the teatard crisis-du-jour to ensure her botoxed mug stays front and center. I’m sure she’ll be screaming bloody murder on that brain-dead young woman as soon as she can figure out how to push Hucksterbee out of his chair without pulling something.

Awwww, Dennis, we REALLY did try to help you before, but I’m afraid you’ve gone a bit too far this time. It’s obvious now that you are a resident of CrazyLand and way beyond any help.
I am curious, though, as to whether you were so critical of Laura Bush, who killed her ex-boyfriend?

Wow Dennis…that’s some grade “A” gibberish you got there.

For the record, I thought Melissa Harris Perry’s “joke” was absolutely horrible. Of all the things she could have made fun of in that incredibly cheesy picture I can’t believe she decided to make fun of a child for being black.
