Neil Cavuto Slams Republicans For Dissing Obama On Funny Or Die

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on March 13, 2014 · Flag

Neil Cavuto broke ranks with his Republican Fox News colleagues Tuesday afternoon over President Obama’s appearance on “Between Two Ferns” with Zach Galifianakis. While the others clutched their pearls over Obama going on Funny or Die’s web show, Cavuto gave them a good tongue lashing for their closed-minded, knee-jerk reactions.

I think you’d have to say Cavuto gets it here:

Say what you will, this irreverent give and take shows a president who’s willing to roll the dice and do whatever it takes to sell his health care law.

… Zach might not be Chris Wallace but I’m telling ya’, he’s very funny – not that Chris isn’t.  And the president just going with the flow is very funny, too.

Now, I know it is not your father’s presidential interview or your Super Bowl, Bill O’Reilly interview but it’s funny. And right now, that Zach thing? Well, it’s going viral. Big time viral. Political handlers call it reaching out to your base. A lot of Republicans say, “No, no, no, it’s just base. Not us.” I say, Republicans ignore these venues at your own peril.

Laugh all you want about Michelle Obama hawking fitness with Jimmy Fallon or her husband yukking it up with that guy before Fallon. A lot of people who don’t watch news shows watch these shows. So why, Republicans, are you dismissing these shows?

Because let me tell you something. You could do worse than breaking out of your comfort zone. Come to think of it, looking at your recent presidential election performances, you already are.

It’s your hang-up. But I’m telling you: You ignore this stuff? It’s gonna be your hangover.

Well said, Mr. Cavuto. Even if it does underscore how, even when a Fox News host criticizes Republicans, he is still cheering for them.

It's too bad, though, that Fox fosters the exact kind of insularity Cavuto is railing against.

Isn’t that exactly what FoxNoise is for GOPers? “Reaching out to the base?” GOPers are more than willing and ready to go to their “base” at every opportunity. (And when they go anywhere else, they’ll balk if their exact demands aren’t met or the hosts ask them something they’ve been told not to ask.)

Too bad Fox News fosters the very insularity that Cavuto is complaining about.
