Mike Huckabee visited The Kelly File for some Republican Rehab over the stir caused by his comments about “trashy” women.
As I posted yesterday, Huckabee was caught on the radio talking about his culture shock at hearing women curse when he started working at Fox News in New York:
Absolutely a cultural shock... If you to go to work and you're in that, sort of, I guess hotbed of the New York culture for a while, for someone like me, I thought, man, this is a different planet. And I came more and more to realize that the cultural divide is significant.
And just a small example… In a business meeting that you might have in the South or in the Midwest there in Iowa, you would not have people who would just throw the f-bomb and use gratuitous profanity in a professional setting.
…In New York, not only do the men do it, but the women do it. And you know, you just are looking around, saying, my gosh, this is worse than locker room talk. This would be considered totally inappropriate to say these things in front of a woman, and for a woman to say them in a professional setting, we would only assume that this is a very, as we would say in the South, that’s just trashy.
Now that the comments have gone viral, Huckabee is taking personal responsibility – not. He’s crying “no fair!” And Megyn Kelly was there to help.
“He never actually said that,” Kelly said, wagging her finger at the camera. She didn’t point out that Huckabee had strongly implied it by a) bringing it up in the context of working at Fox and b) mentioning it in the context of a business meeting. Furthermore, Huckabee never qualified his comments by saying, “But not at Fox” or anything like that.
Kelly left out the Fox News context and played the clip of Huckabee beginning at “In New York…”
That set up Huckabee nicely to use the incident to both play the victim and lay a little more hate on New York. “There’s this cultural divide between people who live in the bubbles of New York, Washington and Hollywood and people who live out here in the land of what I call Gods, guns, grits and gravy,” he said, smugly working in the title of his recent book.
“Most of these people who criticize have never read (my book)” Huckabee complained. “I never said anything about the women of Fox News who are, by the way, lovely and delightful.”
You might notice that Huckabee did NOT say that he never heard Fox News women curse.
Watch it below, from last night’s The Kelly File. I'm also including the audio of the radio interview.
Republicans: the "party of personal responsi — oh, never mind . . .
.
However, your mileage may vary as they say.
Sorry, Steve. Perform all the apologetics you want, but Huckleberry did all but call women “trashy.”
If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, well, chances are it’s NOT a chicken.
I also have to ask – if Huckabee wasn’t talking about Fox News, who the heck did he mean? What other female producers was he working with? Anyplace else he went was as a guest. The only place where he would have been involved with production was Fox News.
