Antoinette, how DARE you!?! You dare compare Hannity and Coulter to Bonnie and Clyde? That’s utterly vile, reprehensible and nauseating.

Bonnie and Clyde weren’t nearly as bad as Ann and Sean. I mean, Bonnie and Clyde were merely bank robbers and killers. Ann and Sean are the spawn of Satan with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Here’s a suggestion for the purveyors of the persecution meme: Spend as much time speaking up for the rights of oppressed and persecuted religious and other groups in THIS country where we’re supposed to have “freedom of religion” (although FoxNoise doesn’t seem to realize this with its routine attacks on Muslims and atheists) before demanding changes be made in countries that DON"T have freedom of religion.

And then, you could also spend a few minutes talking about how other groups are routinely persecuted by CHRISTIANS in other countries. You’ve got gays in Russia being targeted by the Russian Orthodox Church (a Christian faith which has the kind of power in Russia that the religious right can only dream about in this country) and gays in Uganda being targeted by evangelical Christian leaders (with the loving guidance of American evangelical Christians).

doors17: You seem to be under the delusion that FoxNoise was ever truly “fair & balanced.” That was nothing more than a propaganda selling point for brain-dead conservatives who want their worldview reinforced on a daily basis. This is, after all, the network which went to court to confirm their “right” to lie in the name of “reporting the news.”

I’d always believed their old motto “We report, you decide” lacked some key point that would’ve been more accurate: Something like, “We report, you decide whether it’s accurate or not.”

Joseph West commented on O’Reilly Lets Dick Cheney Spin The Iraq War, Saddam Hussein And Those Weapons Of Mass Destruction 2013-10-29 01:36:52 -0400 · Flag
Darth Cheney needs to be reminded that al Qaeda operations started in Iraq WHILE US troops were there DURING his own administration’s handling. It was HIS administration’s bungling of the operation against Saddam that ALLOWED terrorists to enter Iraq in the first place. While it’s within the realm of a correct statement that Saddam Hussein and his sons created an atmosphere of terror—ie, terrorism—in the country, it’s also far more accurate to point out that, under Saddam, Iraqis were NOT subjected to FOREIGN terrorist groups. And then, of course, you can always point out that Sunnis and Shi’ites lived in most parts of Iraq in relative peace and harmony and quickly turned into animals attacking their own neighbors as soon as the US decided to play God. And, for more insanity, there’s the plight of Iraqi women. Under Saddam, it’s true that a relative handful of women were turned into human sextoys for the Hussein boys but most women were actually safe to walk the streets of virtually any part of Iraq, UNchaperoned. After the US “intervention,” that changed—extremist Islamic groups began roaming the streets, acting like Iraq’s version of the Taliban. Unescorted women (especially those wearing Western clothing and going unveiled) found themselves being attacked—many times in broad daylight—by self-appointed “morality police.” Women were beaten, even kidnapped at gunpoint. And this was IN BAGHDAD. DOYC only knows what was going on in rural areas. Before the war, women’s political and economic status had deteriorated (largely because of the sanctions imposed by the Western powers following the 1991 war) but women were still far better off than the overwhelming majority of their Arab sisters in other parts of the Middle East and North Africa; following the toppling of Saddam, that can’t be said any longer.

doors17 is pretty much correct. The whole theory of reincarnation provides a major problem when it comes to traditional Christian theology—including the supposed Catholicism so favored by FoxNoise.

But I bet Fr Johnny won’t be visiting any FoxNoise show and chastising the network for allowing such heresy to be broadcast.

Joseph West commented on Dr. Ben Carson Doubles Down On Likening Obamacare To Slavery 2013-10-28 01:27:22 -0400 · Flag
Today, on America’s News HQ, Carson first fear mongered about The Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) by saying, “If we give government control of (health care), it won’t be long before they have control of virtually every aspect of our lives.”

- - - - - - —

Gee, maybe MR Carson would like to speak with some Americans who live EVERY SINGLE DAY of their lives with the “government” having “control of virtually every aspect of their lives.” Most folks call them “Military personnel.” Of course, Carson has NO first-hand experience with that kind of life since he conveniently managed to avoid military service. Being told when to wake up, being told when to eat meals, being told when to go to bed, being told when they can have “free time,” being told what clothes to wear and when, virtually everything short of being told when to use the bathrooms. Is MR Carson suggesting that our military are essentially “slaves?” That’s what it sounds like to me.

Here’s a question for Tuck-tuck to ponder: How does his network treat former President Jimmy Carter? Carter, after all, went to DC with his religion worn on his sleeve and tried to govern with a truly Christian moral principle. He was the first President to consider human rights to be a matter by which US foreign policy should be guided. It was humanitarian principles that caused the ultimate breakdown in US-Iranian relations (it was, after all, only after the US admitted the Shah into the country for medical treatment that led the Iranians to storm the US Embassy). And since leaving office (mostly because of a bunch of White middle- and lower-class male Democrats were afraid of losing their “privileged” status and, instead, voted in a man who started policies that made their actual lives even harder), he’s done little beyond helping people in need—you know, sort of like another “JC” preached and practiced.

FoxNoise (along with the rest of the right-wing noise machine) has done little but mock Carter’s activities.

And then there was the case of the Nuns on the Bus. I’m sorry, Tuck-tuck, but I don’t seem to recall FoxNoise treating the Sisters with much respect or appreciation.

My reactions to the emails:

1—So, what’s your question? If you’ve got problems with your channel selections, call your cable company you d-bag.

2—We’re waiting. Are you asking a question or planning to tell us?

3—And you know all this for a fact from department publications or is this merely crap that you’ve pulled from your ass? I’ll bet if you call the agency about “pests” like squirrels and pigeons, they’ll tell you they’re still officially “pests.” As for the “domestic animals,” if you’re currently killing them, you are one twisted, sadistic little bastard who should probably get a visit from psychiatric professionals.

4—Do you know how to “record” programs? By the way, why are you watching that foreigner and writing into FoxNoise?

5—We at FoxNoise may appear to be pro-Teabagger, but, in reality, we support electable Republicons. In the blood-red states, we really don’t care about helping those Teabaggers since most of them are too crazy, even by OUR standards. But, if somehow one of those lunatics manages to win the GOP primary in a blue or a battleground state, we’ll grudgingly support the kook—but he (or she) has to win the primary on their own since we don’t get involved in interparty fighting (it just gives ammo to the Dems later on).

6—Actually that’s not a silly question. It’s a STUPID one. Who the hell do you think we are? Some fruity fashion network? We only hire the bimbos; the only thing we want them for is to lure the horned-up-from-Viagra old men into watching our lies news reports.

Well, “Jorge” (if that is your real name), the first thing you should know about atheism is that one is NOT supposed to have faith in it. Faith is, in fact, the antithesis of atheism—at least, faith as most religious people, both the people of true faith (such as those who volunteer time with the sick, the poor and the suffering) and the people of fake faith (such as those FoxNoise hosts and viewers who spend their time mocking the sick, the poor and the suffering) understand the term. “Faith” as is defined in the dictionary can simply mean “allegiance to duty or a person” or a “sincerity of intentions.” The fact that its meaning also involves religion is a mere derivative of the simpler meaning. Having faith in someone or something doesn’t necessarily translate to worshiping or revering that person or object unquestioningly.

As for the “advancing a kingdom of evil” and “good and evil as reality you must believe in the notion” crap, you might want to reconsider your own beliefs. IF there is such a creator, why would he (or she) create good AND evil? What is the purpose of this created “evil?” Think about it (yes, I mean use that blob of gray matter in your head for half a second). Why would someone deliberately set out to create “evil?” And don’t forget that there’s been a lot of evil done, in the name of good. Thousands of innocent people were killed (by “good Christians”) for “witchcraft”; millions of innocent people were killed (by “good Christians”) in the name of their religious beliefs. The fact is that “good” and “evil” are merely CONCEPTS that result from HUMAN behavior. A spider that kills a fly for food is neither good nor evil. A wolf that kills a sheep for food is neither good nor evil. A human that kills a fish or cow for food is neither good nor evil (PETA notwithstanding). Even a human who kills another human is neither truly good nor truly evil—it depends on the circumstances. Unfortunately, humans are the only animals on this planet that have developed a code of ethics; the reason it’s unfortunately is because it forces a double standard. We allow murder to go unpunished if it’s done in “self-defense” or because it’s “retribution for a heinous act.” Murderers can go free because they’re wealthy enough to hire excellent lawyers who can convince a jury that the client is innocent while other murderers are executed because they didn’t have the mental capacity to understand their actions and they can’t afford someone to persuade the jury.

And as to the whole church/state issue, you are WOEFULLY misguided. Go back and read how life was in the American colonies. Go back and read how life was in England (or most anywhere in Europe) at the time of the American Revolution. The church WAS the state in many places; in others, the church DICTATED the state’s actions. The Danbury case, for example, was based on the actions of a group of BAPTISTS who opposed having to pay taxes to the State of Connecticut which used some of that tax money to pay preachers and laypeople of the established state church; that’s right—the STATE paid church leaders an official salary from government coffers. In Britain, the King WAS the actual head of the church (in fact, that’s part of the reason why a Catholic can’t be in line for the throne, even today, because the monarch is the head of the Church of England—Elizabeth II only acts in a titular role but is still acknowledged as the head of the Church; a Catholic monarch, however, couldn’t head the Church of England AND acknowledge the Pope as his/her spiritual leader). In France (at the time of the US Revolution), the Catholic clergy were actually seated in Parliament. In Spain, in Russia, even the Ottoman Empire, the monarch was there “by the grace of God” to be “God’s representative on Earth.” And if some of these Christian extremists had their way, the President of the US would be their version of “God’s representative on Earth.”

As for this whole “meet his maker soon” nonsense, that’s been spouted for more than 1900 years. It hasn’t happened yet; it’s not going to happen. Oh sure, the Earth may be destroyed but it’s not going to be at the hands of this imaginary wrathful being; if anything, it’ll be because nutcases like you do something stupid that causes the annihilation. (Unless an asteroid does it first.)

@thx4fish: No, they didn’t. You’re right in that both men’s districts have been redrawn (and renumbered) but Grayson’s district has been in the Orlando area while West’s former district was down in the West Palm Beach/Boca Raton area of SE Florida (just to the north of Miami).

To put the renumbering into perspective, Grayson is the current representative from FL-9, which takes in parts of Orlando and areas to the southeast (including the Kissimmee-St Cloud resort area), while his former FL-8 took in eastern Orlando, wrapped around the south and west of the city and moved north towards Ocala. The current FL-8 takes in the central Atlantic coast area from Titusville to Vero Beach, including Cape Canaveral. What’s interesting is that the OLD FL-9 used to include the northern and eastern suburban areas of Tampa and St Petersburg.

As to the current FL-22, it cuts off the West Palm Beach area but extends a bit further south into Fort Lauderdale. When West ran for re-election in 2012, he was redistricted to FL-18 (which now runs from WPB northward to Ft Pierce and inland to Lake Okeechobee) which itself used to be most of the eastern part of the old FL-16 (it also included part of SW Florida from Lake Okeechobee to the Gulf Coast city of Port Charlotte).

You know, when Jan mentioned the “Acute Obama Derangement Syndrome,” it reminded me of one point that was being used by some prominent Obama supporters in 2008 who claimed that if Hillary became the nominee, she’d be facing a new round of “Clinton Derangement Syndrome” and the GOP in Congress would never work with her, preferring, instead, to launch impeachment proceedings at the first possible opportunity.

If only someone could take a video of the last 5 years of President Obama’s term with all the “Obama Derangement Syndrome” that’s developed (alongside the Teabag Party), and go back to early 2008 and show it to the DNC with the warning of “It doesn’t f***ing matter WHO wins the nomination this year; he—or she—is going to drive the far right of the Republican Party absolute nuts and they’re going to go after the nominee in a way that would make the way Gingrich and his extremists went after Bill Clinton look like a church social.” At least Hillary had a history and KNEW how these extremists operated (hell, SHE was the one who first described the “vast right-wing conspiracy” which oh-so-many members of the so-called liberal media pooh-poohed as little more than paranoia). Obama’s supporters thought they could handle anything thrown at them; it’s just too bad they never foresaw the sheer hatred that would come his way.

Well, Ellen, I’m going to have to disagree with you here. IF the “someone” is a private citizen who has “offended” certain right-wing or left-wing sensibilities (such as a doctor who provides abortions having his or her home being subjected to protests by anti-choice activists who may subject the doctor’s child or children to taunting), then I’m less inclined to support any protest. HOWEVER, if the “someone” is an elected, political official, I’m willing to allow a bit of “intimidation” be practiced in the name of the First Amendment’s right to peaceable assembly to petition a redress of grievances (provided the protest doesn’t become unruly and doesn’t hinder other residents in the neighborhood).

Mr Moore really needs to do a little bit of investigating and research into how much “libery” many religious groups had in the early days of the Republic.

If he thinks that contemporary religious groups are being persecuted because “Obamacare” is “forcing” religious individuals operating commercial businesses to make contraception a part of the company’s insurance offering, he really needs to read how the Danbury Baptists felt “persecuted” by the established church of Connecticut. I wonder if Mr Moore would appreciate his tax money being used to pay the salaries of another church’s ministers and lay leaders? That’s what was going on a decade after the State of Connecticut ratified the Constitution (including the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty), and was going on in many states well into the middle of the 19th century.
