Hero Student Foils Fox News Plan To Use Houston College Stabbing To Push For Guns On Campus

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on April 10, 2013 · Flag

Predictably, Fox News used the news of a stabbing spree at a Houston college campus yesterday to advocate for more guns on campus. Today, on America Live, Megyn Kelly hosted hero student Stephen Maida who had tackled the stabber and brought him down with “just my fists.” And for no other apparent reason than to politicize it, she included in the discussion a Texas state senator who made the ridiculous argument that the entire situation proved the need for concealed guns on campus. Unfortunately for him, Maida wasn’t buying it.

Mediaite’s Matt Wilstein caught the flaw in Republican State Senator Dan Patrick’s argument that host Megyn Kelly seemed to miss:

Heaping praise of Maida, who he called a “hero,” Patrick asked what would have happened had the assailant been carrying a gun instead of a knife. “Stephen would have been helpless. He may have tried to tackle him with a gun, but he may have been shot.” By creating this hypothetical, Patrick glossed over the two major facts about this story that make it unique precisely because there were no guns involved: no one died and students were able to take down the assailant.

But Maida got it. He totally shot down Patrick's theory:

Seeing them with a gun just would worry me more. And to know how easy they get provoked and how crazy they can be. This kid, instead of stabbing people, he could have been shooting all 14 people and all 14 people could have been dead.

Of course, Patrick tried to keep arguing, saying that Maida missed the point. But it’s hard to dispute the perspective of the kid who brought down a potential killer with his bare hands. Nor the fact that what could easily have been another mass slaughter actually resulted in no deaths.

At least he wasn’t armed with a spoon

When you live a life full of violence in your “heart” and it’s all you have it has to spill over when you discuss violence. This pathetic politician couldn’t help but leap into what, for him, would be a paradise, wild west in Texas and on the campus. I’m gratified that not everyone buys into the madness, and that Maida shot down the mindset and the argument. Maybe there is hope after all and the NRA will not own the nation and transform it even deeper into the dystopia it has become.

Patrick: You win that bet. They’re the only network that left that part out initially. When they finally got around to it, they spun it to sound like guns are the only way that was possible.

Fox News and Nation both watch too many movies. In real life, when someone stops an assailant, they aren’t thinking “What if I had been better armed?”

I’ve never seen them say “If only I had a gun, or at least a ______ of my own!”, no. They wonder how much worse it would have been if the guy they stopped was better armed.

The reason why is so simple even Ablow couldn’t miss it- They know from what just happened that they didn’t need to be better armed to win in this particular situation, but they still don’t know why the other guy was as armed as he was. Did he want to use what he did, or was that the best he could get on the patience he had left?

There’s also the factor of that they were the only one who acted for a melee weapon, so what would have happened if they didn’t have the nerve to squeeze the trigger if they both had guns? Only one in like 236 can pull a trigger in that situation, and of that, many miss or only superficially would the shooter. Wanna know how many times the shooter gets his nerve back first? The NRA sure as hell won’t tell you that part.

In fact, the NRA likes to claim that statistic, as well as the numerous social experiments proving it are all a croc.

And yes- I did bring up Ablow because he managed to not get that point.

From Antoinette’s comment:

“We like to see this hack Dan Patrick switch places with Stephen Maida, and take down this assailant. Chances are Patrick would have ran away,…..”

Or he would have INSTANTLY DEFECATED (i.e. S**T) in his pants and dug a foxhole all the way to China!

;^)

Nobody died and the assailant was captured alive? Crikey.

But that’s not the American way according to Fox News, also because everything was over before the helicopters could get into the air. Sheesh. No suspense during a shutdown, no going endlessly over the gory details with fake awe (practically licking their lips).

Instead of being glad that things turned out as they did, the foxies were left with their hunger for blood and gore unassuaged. Then along comes Stephen who refuses to toe the line.

Stephen Maida is at the top of my list of human beings truly worthy of admiration and respect.

We like to see this hack Dan Patrick switch places with Stephen Maida, and take down this assailant. Chances are Patrick would have ran away, and let some other student take the risk of wrestling with the assailant.

Republicans want other people to do their dirty work for them while they sit back in their offices and watch Fox “News” Channel.

Uh-oh. If I were Mr Maida, I’d go into hiding for the next few weeks. He’s done the unthinkable—not playing by FoxNoise’s rules and letting the FoxNoise folks make their “we need more guns” point.

That's right - an incident that ended without anyone getting killed and an attacker getting disabled by a student's bare hands is an incident crying out for guns!
