Sean Hannity – the guy who pals around with a slavery apologist and other bigots – has a new race card to play against President Obama. Thanks to Tucker Carlson, there’s some new video footage of a 2007 speech President Obama made talking about poverty and the inadequate federal response to Hurricane Katrina and – OMG! He gives a shout out to Rev. Jeremiah Wright and talks more like an African American than he does to white people. Ladies and gentlemen, this is proof that Obama is a racist and a hate monger! Just like when Hannity found the same “bombshell” proof in a video showing Obama hugging a “black radical” (who was a tenured Harvard professor) in 1990. I suspect this one will have only slightly more impact.
Remember how Hannity hates it when people play the race card? That only seems to apply when it’s played against white people. Because when it comes to playing race cards against African Americans, especially President Barack Obama, Hannity is a dealer extraordinaire.
Hannity said the video contains “some of the most divisive, class warfare and racially-charged rhetoric ever used by Barack Obama.”
Well, you tell me. I listened to every minute of what was aired on Hannity and was hard-pressed to figure out what was so bad about it.
Predictably, Hannity played the GOP Special Victim – media edition. He whined, “This event was covered by other media outlets, including the Associated Press and local television stations. But again, the most outrageous comments were completely ignored. This is further proof that the mainstream media has been in the pocket of Barack Obama since the day that he arrived on the national stage.”
Yes, if only the media would portray President Obama as the black radical and racist Hannity just “knows” he is.
As Think Progress noted, the full transcript of Obama’s prepared remarks has long been available.
The “explosive” news, according to the Daily Caller, is that Obama briefly deviated from his prepared remarks to comment on Hurricane Katrina. Obama said the federal government should do more to rebuild New Orleans, including waiving some requirements of the Stafford Act as the federal government did after 9/11 and Hurricane Andrew. Fox News, apparently, thinks this statement is outrageous and controversial.
To prove how little “there” there is, Think Progress showed a screen grab of one of the banners on Hannity’s show blaring: OBAMA ON TAPE: KATRINA VICTIMS SHORTCHANGED BY GOVERNMENT.
Yes, this is the “pretty explosive stuff,” that Hannity said, “all Americans need to pay close attention to.”
Well, that and the “change in the way he delivers the speech before a predominantly African American audience,” as Hannity put it. Meaning, Obama spoke more “black” than he normally does. News flash for Hannity: This is what people of common ethnicity and/or community do. In my experience, African Americans do this all the time when they speak among one another. Southerners speak more "southern" when they are with other southerners, Jews act more Jewish, and so on.
“This is not a dog whistle. This is a dog siren,” Carlson insisted, because Obama made remarks such as, “our people” should have gotten construction jobs instead of Haliburton."
But as Alan Colmes posted on his blog, Obama specifically said that the government response was “colorblind.”
“Look at what happened in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast when Katrina hit. People ask me whether I thought race was the reason the response was so slow. I said, ‘No. This Administration was colorblind in its incompetence.’ But everyone here knows the disaster and the poverty happened long before that hurricane hit. All the hurricane did was make bare what we ignore each and every day which is that there are whole sets of communities that are impoverished, that don’t have meaningful opportunity, that don’t have hope and they are forgotten. This disaster was a powerful metaphor for what’s gone on for generations.”
These clowns should be worried about The Mitt’s foot-in-mouth disease. His slam against the 47% of the American population damaged him. He won’t recover from that latest goof.
Tucky’s desire to be the next Andy Breitbart will fail. No one likes him, including a famous conservative talker named Roger.
Tucky is no journalist. He’s just a content provider for Fox “News” Channel.
If the masses want to dig up dirt, check out Handout Hannocchio’s background.
When you watch the video, there’s not much to talk about that Obama hasn’t been consistently saying throughout his political career. He’s more up front about the inequity of the response to Katrina, but that’s clearly due to him talking to an audience for whom this is a major issue, and for whom he would have been pilloried for ignoring it. This is a matter of showing sensitivity to your audience – much in the way that Romney failed to do when he deliberately said the wrong things to the NAACP gathering. Here Obama is shown actually paying attention to the audience for whom he is speaking.
It’s clear that this is yet another attempt by Fox to throw up a smear on Obama, and like all the other ones, this one is failing. Only Fox and right wing sites are even carrying this nonsense. One has to wonder what they’re going to say after the debate tomorrow night. I expect they’ll immediately declare Romney the winner by a landslide but we’ll have to see if he even justifies a fraction of the acclaim they’ll be waiting to provide.
For starters, the majority of people living in NORTH AFRICA (that stretch of land along the Mediterranean Sea that’s been in the news for the better part of the last two years between the Arab Spring and then the recent riots linked, in part, to that stupid video) are, racially speaking, WHITE. And, according to recent figures, whites make up a little more than 9% of the country’s population (that’s over 4.5 million actual people).
As for Asians, again, there’s not a SINGLE “Asian” type. The folks living in SouthWest Asia (aka, “the Middle East”) are largely Caucasian or Caucasian-related ethnic groups. (Seriously, take a look at the leaders of Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria, and they could easily “pass” for Whites—especially when compared to European groups like Italians, Greeks and Spaniards.) Then, you’ve got South Asia, which has a wide range of skin tones in the population (go back and look at pictures of Indira Gandhi or the current leaders of Pakistan and they could “pass” for White, while folks from the South of India are typically darker-skinned than President Obama). Of course, when you think “Asian,” you’re thinking Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Filipino/Vietnamese/Lao/Thai but these peoples make up only about half of ALL “Asians.”
And, it may surprise you but Whites have been responsible for more genocide than any other ethnic group. It was White Germans who tried to eradicate Jews (as well as Roma and Slavs—the latter group being just as “White” as the Germans). It was White English, then later White Americans, who tried to eradicate Native Americans in the upper-third of the American Continents while White Spaniards and Portuguese tried to accomplish the same thing in the lower two-thirds of the Americas. And, of course, Polynesian peoples were wiped out by White “explorers” and “settlers” and let’s not even get into the near genocide of the Native peoples of Australia by the White English who settled the territory. And, you might want to do a little research into the genocidal treatment of natives living in the Congo when their land was made the “personal property” of the Belgian King. (The atrocities in the Congo Free State are widely considered to be the first well-documented case of genocide in the modern era.)
Not even Klannity thinks this video, available since 2007, is even as tenth as explosive as Willard in Boca Raton. Doesn’t Klannity know Willard already has the white man’s vote sewn up, and this little “expose” will do nothing to get one independent??? Gotta admit, he is consistent, all Obama-hatred all the time.
