Gohmert Announces Challenge To Boehner – On Fox News, Of Course

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has announced he’ll challenge John Boehner for Speaker of the House in the new Congress. Predictably, Gohmert made his announcement on Fox News. Just as predictably, the announcement was part of a softball interview.

According to Politico, Gohmert’s chances of winning are a long shot. But no such discouraging word emitted from Fox host Tucker Carlson’s lips.

Also, while Carlson and his Fox & Friends co-hosts were so concerned with extremism from a black Missouri state senator in another segment today, there was no such concern about Gohmert’s. In fact, Carlson said it was “always a pleasure” to have Gohmert on the show.

So here are some of Gohmert’s greatest hits, via Right Wing Watch:

“Civil disobedience comes from the left,” he said. “They’re the ones that loot and shoot up and shoot up stores and do all kinds of things like that. If you look at the conservative gatherings, we even pick up our own trash. But it could be that this president is doing all he can to get conservatives who remember the country when presidents didn’t exceed their bounds and wish we would go back to those days, it may be enough to make them that angry. But I hope not, I hope there’s no violence.” (11/20/14)

“I’ve had people say, ‘Hey, you know, there’s nothing wrong with gays in the military. Look at the Greeks,’” he said. “Well, you know, they did have people come along who they loved that was the same sex and would give them massages before they went into battle. But you know what, it’s a different kind of fighting, it’s a different kind of war and if you’re sitting around getting massages all day ready to go into a big, planned battle, then you’re not going to last very long. It’s guerrilla fighting. You are going to be ultimately vulnerable to terrorism and if that’s what you start doing in the military like the Greeks did ... as people have said, ‘Louie, you have got to understand, you don’t even know your history.’ Oh yes I do. I know exactly. It’s not a good idea” (10/21/14)

Gohmert: McCain Supports Al Qaeda (10/11/13)

Like racism, extremism only comes from the left, according to Fox News.

And 1 of those 3 votes was his own. Bwaaah!

Some interesting thoughts on the Speaker vote from WaPo’s Cillizza …

If Gohmert wants to see how gays in the military work, instead of ancient Greece, he might take a look at a little army in modern Israel. They’ve allowed gays to serve since 1993 (actually since 1983 but, since 1993, there’s no restrictions on what service they can do—from 1983 to 1993, they weren’t allowed in intelligence or top secret positions).

Or does Gohmert think that Israel’s military prowess has somehow been minimized in the last few decades?

@ez T-ball sounds right. Gives the little ones a great sense of achievement before they tackle the challenge of hitting a moving ball.

LOL, softball or T-ball…it certainly goes to show that Tucker stinks when it comes to interviewing right-wingers who deserve to have some challenging questions put to him/her. Gohmert is the perfect example of such a politician yet Tucker wimped out and instead played the perfect FOX “news” puppet.

Btw, if both Gohmert and Yoho are going to be running for the Speaker’s chair, isn’t there the potential for the far-right/tea party member votes to be split which would most likely give the seat right back to Boehner? If they really want to unseat Boehner, I’m wondering why they would put up 2 such similar candidates. Perhaps they just want to embarrass Boehner by causing the vote to happen multiple times until a majority is reached?

Apologies: Gohmer*t*, not Gohmer.

“Batting stand” comes to mind.

I beg to differ with Ellen: That was no softball interview because the ball fed to Gohmer wasn’t moving at all. More like the tool we use to 4 to 5 year olds who’ve never swung a bat in their lives: hand-made wooden stands holding an upright piece of rubber tubing (dia.3 inches). A wiffle ball (plastic, hollow, with holes) is placed on the tube and the coach stands back while the kid swings at it (with a plastic bat). I forget what that thing is called.

Gohmer’s command of military history is one hell of a hoot with which to start off the new year. (I learned long ago not to turn on the computer with anything liquid in hand or mouth).

I doubt that 2015 can bring us anything more hair-splittingly hilarious than his comparison of two sorts of “fighting”, where one involves killing people at a distance (drones) and the other doing so at close quarters (knives, spears, clubs, etc.). His emphasis pre-combat massages instead of the horrors of hand-to-hand combat tells me a lot more about his hidden urges than he thinks.

I share Hulk’s plea to Gohmer to run and would suggest Huckabee as a worthy partner. I intend to place a modest investment in popcorn farming between now and 2016.

@ mj – the same one: Gohmer’s not even close to the high ethical standard set by the likes of Commander Kevin Bogucki and other court-appointed JAG attorneys who tried/try to defend the human rights of the men and boys held at Guantanamo. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit to learn that Gohmer spent his 4 years sharpening pencils Even photocopying or even emptying waste baskets would have given him a better understanding of the reality of war.

Oh, run for preznit gohmer. What a complete dufus clown. I LOVE this guy. He is so insulting to intelligence to listen to and watch as he loads his diapers when he gets all upset.
What a complete dunce. TY Texas for sending such trash to Washington to represent you. It doesn’t say much for your district. Not much at all.

And Louie Louie knows this from his four years as an Army JAG lawyer extensive combat experience . . .

Louie Louie for Speaker. Because mentally challenged voters want someone just like them to lead the House.

Of course, none of Gohmert's extremism was mention. Because on Fox, extremism only comes from the left.
