Texas gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott apparently decided he wanted a little Cliven Bundy action for himself. So did Texas’ current governor (and potential 2016 presidential candidate) Rick Perry. And Fox News was more than happy to help. Whether new revelations about Bundy’s racism will put a crimp in their swagger remains to be seen.
The latest front for armed insurrection (and calling it patriotism) seems to come from Breitbart, those fine folks who brought us the phony “Friends of Hamas” smear of Chuck Hagel:
After Breitbart Texas reported on the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) intent to seize 90,000 acres belonging to Texas landholders along the Texas/Oklahoma line, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott questioned the BLM’s authority to take such action.
“I am about ready,” General Abbott told Breitbart Texas, “to go to the Red River and raise a ‘Come and Take It’ flag to tell the feds to stay out of Texas.”
Fox is more than willing to help the cause. FoxNews.com wrote an article yesterday warning about a federal government "land grab" in Texxas. Also yesterday, Perry appeared on Fox’s Your World show where he couldn’t seem to think of enough ways to link himself and Abbott to Bundy:
Greg Abbott is a very powerful and thoughtful attorney general… and he is on the right side of this issue. Not just for the people of the state of Texas he’s on the right side of this issue from a private …property rights standpoint. And I don’t think Americans want to see another one of these exhibitions from the federal government… coming in with armed troops over an issue that ought to be taken care of with a little common sense when you think about it.
Varney actually sounded a bit skeptical as he asked. “Do you approve of that kind of language: ‘Come and get it?’ It is a dare. It is a flat-out Texas challenge,” he said.
Perry replied, “Actually, it’s not a dare, it’s a promise that we’re gonna stand up for private property rights in the State of Texas and I don’t have a problem in the world with Attorney General Abbott’s words here. But the key on this… is the federal government already owns too much land.”
Skeptical or not, that was no reason to waste an opportunity to bash Democrats. Varney played Sen. Harry Reid’s comments calling Bundy’s armed supporters “domestic terrorists.” Sure enough, Perry took the red meat:
I would suggest that Senator Reid spend a little more time in Nevada and get out of Washington, DC and go visit with those people that he’s disparaging. I think that’s very unfortunate language and frankly, not something that you would want a leader in America saying about the citizens of this country.
That is, unless it's the elderly chairman of the Fed. In August, 2011, Rick Perry not only called Bernanke "almost treasonous" but made a thinly-veiled threat as well, saying, "We would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas." Contrast Fox's treatment of Perry's comments with Reid's.
Perry continued:
… I have a problem with the federal government putting citizens in the position of having to feel like they have to use force to deal with their own government. That’s the bigger issue.…And that’s the reason I think that the Bureau of Land Management needs to be really careful about coming – whether it’s Nevada or Texas or Oklahoma or whatever state it might be and acting like – that private property is something that they control and that they are going to be able to make the decision about who this belongs to.
We’re a rule of law country and private property is at the base of it. And unless the federal government respects that, then I’ll suggest to you that they are the ones that are instigating the opportunity for a misfortune to happen.
But maybe Perry’s the one who needs to get out of Texas and go meet those Nevada ranchers he thinks are so terrif. Or does he agree with Bundy’s shockingly racist comments that black people had more freedom as cotton-picking slaves? Abbott has already distanced himself from Bundy. I suspect Perry will run for cover, too.
Take his demand that I provide evidence of threatening language towards Reid by Bundy and his supporters. Newshounds has articles about that, he commented on them under previous names. He knows such comments exist, because Fox News promoted it, and we wrote it up. But he’s still gonna demand it, and he’ll still flee the thread at the mere sight of what he asks for.
‘Keith’ is back….but this time he’s ‘John’!!!
Wow, clever, dude!
You almost had us this time….but fortunately, liberal/progressives are VERY educated.
And some people aren’t.
But, anyway….I did use the Google as you asked. I found MANY pages representing the RW Conspiracy whackos (InfoWars, The Blaze, Fox, etc.) you keep quoting. I actually did scan a few articles, but the links were hardly credible.
Here’s a link to a credible source (I have others, if you’re interested, ‘John Keith’) that rationally discusses the Harry Reid link, and also the real damage that Bundy’s animals have been causing to the open lands that you would benefit from reading, (although we all know that you won’t).

By the way a terrorist is someone who attacks civilians, period. Not someone who stands up to military or police… Those are acts of war, very different than terrorism….
And Fox can’t even muster up enough objectivity to ask them if they thought this through. No wonder people like John and whats-his-face, the other Bundy defender that’ll more than likely be here shortly can’t see the forest for the trees on this issue.
Oh, and BTW? Suggesting Harry Reid go visit an armed and psychotic militia that’s basically threatened him multiple times? Would they walk up to someone who was threatening them- open or veiled- if they were posing what could be perceived as a serious threat, like, I donno… A militia-backed insurrection?!
If I were getting a grade then ill proof read
“There are at least three things I dislike about Gov Goodhair. One, his ridiculous coif. Two, his ridiculously low IQ.”
Yes indeed — Rick Perry’s IQ is simply TOO LOW to be measured!
